Dear Guests,

Mayor J. Jonah Jameson begrudgingly invites you to an engagement party celebrating the impending wedding of his father, J. Jonah Jameson Sr. to May Reilly Parker.

All members of the family are welcome to attend. May's nephew, Peter Parker, could certainly use the break. The last get-together Jonah hosted was crashed by Norman Osborn, America's top cop and former psychotic Green Goblin. Peter and Norman's son, Harry, have been in the midst of some heavy problems, but we'll get to how that was settled next week.

So the whole family's been invited up to Boston to celebrate. Of course, May hasn't spoken to most of her family in years and the fact that Jonah’s dad even exists dispels Peter's long held belief that Ol' Flattop wasn't born but rather spawned off a men's room floor. So who will be there? What family or family friends can the Parkers and Jamesons expect to show up? One thing's for certain – if there's an open bar, you can expect a ton of comic book editors to arrive.

Sincerely,

The management.

REVIEW: Several years ago, in Portland, Oregon, a house is on fire. Inside the house, two men are fighting. One of them, presumably the owner, is yelling for his wife to get herself and their son out of the house. The other man pummels him with a barrage of punches. The homeowner, kneeled down in front of the other man, begs for his life. The other man, when revealed to the reader, looks just like Peter Parker.

In the present, Peter Parker is partaking in his Aunt May's engagement party dinner, to celebrate her impending marriage to J. Jonah Jameson Sr.. Also in attendance, other than the soon-to-be-married, is J. Jonah Jameson Jr., New York City's current mayor and future brother-in-law to Peter. While taunting Jonah Jr. with their imminent brotherhood, Peter asks Jonah Sr. why he chose Boston as the location of the engagement party. Jonah Sr. reveals that the location is tied in to the engagement present he has for Aunt May. Having said that, Jonah Sr. hoists is glass of champagne and toasts his bride-to-be. He then hands her an envelope and tells her to open it. Inside the envelope is an old picture of Aunt May as a young girl, surrounded by her family, the Reillys. Aunt May is completely taken aback by the photograph and is lost for word. Jonah Sr. stands up and goes over to a nearby door, which he opens, revealing none other than the Reillys from the photograph, in person. Aunt May cannot believe her eyes. In shock, she stands up and goes over to meet them. Peter follows suit and comes over to introduce himself to his cousins, aunts and uncles.

Unbeknownst to him or his newfound family, a masked man is watching Peter through a pair of binoculars from across the street, on a rooftop. It appears the man has been waiting for Peter to show up for several months.

After meeting his three hot female cousins and nasty aunt Jan, Peter heads to the bathroom to freshen up, so to speak. As he stares at himself in the mirror, he wishes his family reunion would be interrupted by an attacking super villain. On cue, the masked man seen earlier bursts through the window and lands in front of Peter. Peter jokes with the man, telling him that he'll have to pay for the broken window. Standing menacingly, the man tells Peter that he's waited for this moment for a long time. With that said, large claw-like appendages emerge from his forearms and he proceeds to attack Peter. Peter dodges his attack and starts to tussle with the man, though he keeps it at a minimum, so his secret identity remains just that. Taking charge of the fight, Peter grabs hold of his opponent and pushes himself and the man out the window. Peter forgot one thing though: he doesn't have his web-shooters and the man no longer has a grip on him. He is thus forced to move closer to the building and use his spider-grip to slow his descent. Needless to say, it is very painful for Peter. His opponent smashes into the pavement. The battle is not over yet though, as the man, despite having fallen all those stories, gets back to his feet, wondering where Peter has gone to.

Before he can start looking for him, Spider-Man swoops down from above and attacks him. As he sends a truck crashing into his opponent, Spidey wonders why the man was attacking ordinary people. The man answers that Peter Parker is not ordinary and that he – that is, Spidey – knows not the first thing about him. Spidey tells his opponent that, if he came looking for a super hero / super villain fight, he'll happily oblige. The man responds that he's not a super villain; he's just a guy. Having said that, he pulls a machine gun out of his costume and proceeds to unleash a barrage of bullets toward Spider-Man. Spidey dodges the bullets and, using a well-placed webline, he snags the gun out of his opponent's hand. He then launches himself, too confidently, at his opponent, who manages to stab him in the gut area. Spidey falls to the ground, evidently in pain. The man apologizes to him, saying that he has no quarrel with him. Just then, the man realizes that the stray bullets from his machine gun, meant for Spider-Man, hit a bunch of innocent bystanders, who had been watching the battle. He tries to apologize to them, but they're not listening. Having bandaged his mid-section using webbing, Spidey uses the distraction to attack his opponent, as the crowd cheers on. The villain manages to break free from Spidey and takes off running. His thoughts reveal that he cannot let anything stop him from getting to Peter Parker. Spidey prepares to take off after him, but notices that several people in the crowd need help. The bystanders tell him not to worry about them but to take off after his attacker. Spidey quickly catches up to him, on a bus-boat of all places. As he starts punching him, Spidey asks his opponent if he has a name. The villain responds that his name is "Raptor". When Spidey amusingly comments that his costume is not really bird-like, the man suddenly grows a set of large sharp teeth and screeches that he's name after a velociraptor. He then lunges at Spidey. Spidey fights back and causes the two of them to fall off the bus-boat and onto the pavement below. Spidey manages to take his attacker's guns away from him but that doesn't stop him from fighting back. The villain tries to make a run for it, but Spidey catches him before he can escape. When the man realizes that Spidey won't give up, he himself gives up, telling Spidey to stop. He then goes on telling Spidey that he had no business getting involved in the whole thing. Spidey gets what he's saying but he had to get involved, as innocent people's life were at stakes. Having said that, Spidey removes his attacker’s mask and doesn't have a clue who the guy is. In return, the man yells at Spidey, telling him that he has no idea what is really going on here. Spidey goes on asking him why he's after Peter Parker and why he wants to kill him. The man reveals that who he's trying to kill murdered his family and that his name is not Peter Parker; his name is Ben Reilly!

Spidey is completely and utterly shocked; he's speechless. It's a name he hasn't heard in years. But he remembers it well. It's the name of his clone, a duplicate created by Professor Miles Warren, a lunatic hell-bent on destroying both Spider-Man and Peter Parker (read the Clone Saga Timeline). Both Warren and his clone are now dead; the latter killed by Norman Osborn, mastermind of the whole Clone Saga. Spidey reveals to the man that Ben Reilly is dead, that he has the wrong guy. The man refuses to believe him. Calling Spidey a liar, he punches him and takes off running before Spidey can react. Though the man never revealed his name, the cops, upon investigating the earlier shooting, found fingerprints and came up with a match, which produced a name, Damon Ryder; Spidey has never heard of him.

Spidey scurries back to the scene of the crime and ditches his costume in the garage to be picked up later. As Peter Parker, he then gets paramedics to check and treat his wounds. Just then, Aunt May, J. Jonah Jameson Sr. and Jameson Jr. show up to check up on him. When asked what he was thinking, Peter replies that he had hoped to snap some pictures to make quick money. Jonah Jr. berates him for trying to sell his photos to local newspapers as they are all apparently dying. Peter admits to not have thought that far ahead. Jonah Sr., stepping between his son and Peter, tells Peter that he's going to be all right. Peter replies that he hopes he's right and calls him "dad". The paramedics looking after Peter tells Aunt May and the Jameson's that he needs to take Peter to the hospital. They bid him goodbye, telling him that they’ll meet up with him at the hospital later.

Days passed; Peter is released from the hospital and returns to work at the Front Line. The first thing he does upon setting foot in the office is hop on the computer and do a search for the name Damon Ryder. He finds a newspaper story published in the Portland Post about a family dying in an arson fire. The article comes clean with a police sketch – drawn from Ryder's account – of the suspected arsonist. The person in the sketch looks just like him; it's Ben Reilly.

To be continued in Amazing Spider-Man.
