When the DB runs a story about Jackpot's failed raid at a local warehouse, she heads over there to confront publisher Dexter Bennett. Soon after arriving there, the Skrull invasion begins. A Super-Skrull, impersonating Spider-Man shows up at the DB, looking for the real Spider-Man. Jackpot and the Super-Skrull engage into a fierce battle, which is where this issue picks up.
REVIEW:
The issue opens with Spider-Man in the Savage Land, recounting the events of Secret Invasion – Amazing Spider-Man #1. The story quickly switches to the DB building, where officer Vin Gonzales is racing up the stairs, having just been witness to an explosion that ripped through the DB newsroom. He reaches the door to the newsroom floor, when a herd of frightened people storm out past him down the stairs. When he looks to see what they were running away from, he is stunned to see Jackpot in the middle of a battle with a Super-Skrull.

Dexter Bennett, Betty Brant and a peeved Joe "Robbie" Robertson (see previous issue for further details) are there as well, but readying themselves to take their leave. Dexter, Betty and Robbie start to make their escape down the staircase, when the Super-Skrull tackles Jackpot to the floor at the top of the stairs. Grabbing his gun out of his holster, Vin shoots the Super-Skrull a total of three times in the head. Shockingly, the Super-Skrull still stands, despite having been shot in the head. In fact, his wounds immediately begin to heal and are gone within a matter of seconds. Before the Super-Skrull can retaliate, Jackpot kicks him with all her strength, sending him falling backwards into a wall. She then grabs hold of Vin and starts running down the stairs. She goes so fast, she passes Dexter, Betty and Robbie.
In a nearby alley, Harry Osborn and Lily Hollister are stuck between two large Super-Skrulls. One of them takes a swipe at Harry and Lily, who duck for cover. The Super-Skrull's fist punches a hole through the wall, through which Harry and Lily make their escape. Now in a parking garage, they race off, hoping to find a car with the keys still in the ignition; they luckily do find one. They hop aboard and drive off, leaving the Super-Skrull behind. As they drive away, they decide to go to the police station to see if Vin (Gonzales) or Carlie Cooper know what they should do.
Dexter, Betty, Robbie and Vin find themselves in the underground parking garage of the DB building where they hop into a car, while Jackpot tries to keep the Super-Skrull at bay. Moments later, they are racing down the street with Jackpot on the roof of the car and a Super-Skrull hot on their tail. Jackpot tells Robbie to head to the Baxter Building to see what the Fantastic Four can do. She then rips the trunk of the car off and throws it at the Super-Skrull following them, slowing him down. When they finally arrive at the Baxter Building, they realize that the Fantastic Four won’t be much help to them, as the top half of the building is gone, having been destroyed by the Skrulls. The Super-Skrull, having caught back up with them, launches himself at Jackpot and slams her into the side of a nearby van, telling her to tell him where the real Spider-Man is. Just then, Robbie drives the car into the Super-Skrull, pinning him between the car and the same van Jackpot was just slammed into. Jackpot gets back to her feet and hops on top of the car, which speeds off into the distance. The Super-Skrull gets back to his feet as well and seems to be quite infuriated with Jackpot.
Meanwhile, Harry, with Lily, is trying to remember how to get to Carlie's police station. Though he's been there before, he always had someone driving him, which is why he doesn't remember. He tries to reach Carlie with his cell phone, but he gets no signal, in the middle of Manhattan. He cannot believe it. Just then, the ground in front of their car explodes. Harry manages to manoeuvre around the explosion and ends up crashing into a light pole. Harry and Lily leave the vehicle in a hurry just as one of the Super-Skrulls blows it into pieces. Flames roaring all around him, Harry has no idea where Lily went. With a Super-Skrull hot on his tail, Harry runs away, though he wonders what happened to Lily the entire time. Harry then finds a hiding spot while the Super-Skrull sends cars flying all over the place, seemingly looking for him. Just then, someone off-panel says "Quiet you" and cuts the Super-Skrull's head right off. That someone is revealed to be none other than Menace who flies away.
The DB gang (i.e. Betty, Dexter, Robbie), Vin, and Jackpot reach Stark Tower, seeking help, but the building is locked down so there will be no help from the Avengers. Jackpot realizes that she will have to deal with this herself. The Super-Skrull catches up to them and jumps on the trunk of the car. Jackpot is sent flying into the Super-Skrull's arms. The Super-Skrull takes a good look at her for a few seconds and then tosses her away like a bag of potatoes. Jackpot crashes through the window of a nearby building, landing into a restaurant. Shaking the glass off her, she heads back outside to try and catch up with the Super-Skrull and the car driven by "Rocket" Robertson. She starts running after the car when a maniacal laughter surprises her. Before she can do anything, she is lifted off the ground by Menace and taken into the skies. Menace tells Jackpot that killing the aliens was fun but killing her will be even better.
The Super-Skrull that had been following Betty, Dexter, Robbie, Vin and Jackpot, now stands atop the moving car driven by Robbie. He calls out for Spider-Man to show up (he apparently has the ability to smell Spider-Man off people that have been in close contact with him). Inside the car, Vin tells the others that Jackpot is gone and that they need to come up with a plan, fast. Bennett yells at Robbie to drive faster but that won't change a single thing, since the Super-Skrull is standing on the car. The issue concludes with the Super-Skrull tearing through the roof of the car and telling its passengers to tell him which one of them is Spider-Man, or else he'll kill them all.
To be continued.
