HISTORY: Wirtham is a dedicated physician and surgeon who vowed to uphold the Hippocratic oath. Years ago, his older brother, Joshua, died of a rare and incurable disease. This even led to Elias' decision to attend medical school. Upon his graduation from medical school, Elias learned that a chemical company had produced a new drug that could have saved his brother if it had been released on the market then. Due to unfavourable economic condition, the company had decided to wait until the economy stabilized, thus to Elias' eyes, the company's corporate greed had killed Joshua. To this end, Elias decided to bring such immoral practices to a halt by taking the role of Cardiac. Cardiac first met Spider-Man while Spidey was investigating Sapridyne Chemicals, a drug company who was rumoured to be creating perfectly legal chemicals required to process cocaine. Spider-Man had come to shoot a few incriminating photos to expose the company whereas Cardiac had come to destroy the place. Unbeknownst of each other's presence, they only realized later when they met again that they were working on the same side.
