PREVIOUSLY: In Spectacular Spider-Man #149, a large giant wolf is seen attacking the Kingpin's men and leaving another cryptic message – similar to that seen in Spectacular Spider-Man #145 and #146: "Kingpin, the wolves come for you"!

Meanwhile at the Federal Courthouse in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the trial of Joseph "Robbie" Robertson gets underway but the outcome doesn't look very promising for Robbie especially when Tombstone is brought in to testify against him.

Finally, Gloria Grant has fallen in love with Eduardo Lobo, a Latin American kingpin of crimes. Somehow, she doesn't seem to realize what he does for a living. However, fellow co-worker and reporter, Kate Cushing, knows and realizes that she needs to do something about it. She enlists the help of fellow reporter,Joy Mercado.

In Spectacular Spider-Man #150, Robbie is found guilty of misprision of felony and sentenced to three years in prison at the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately for Robbie, his troubles are not over when he finds out that Tombstone is assigned to the same cellblock.

Daily Bugle reporters and photographers such as Kate Cushing, Lance Bannon, Joy Mercado and Peter Parker, have become aware that J. Jonah Jameson has been behaving oddly for weeks, ever since he hired a new photographer by the name of Nick Katzenberg. Katzenberg shares Jonah’s obsession to destroy Spider-Man and will go to extreme measures to get front-page material.

Peter, as Spider-Man, confronts the Kingpin about the recent murders of the members of his mob by some giant black-haired werewolf, which Spidey briefly encounters in the issue, but it is revealed that the Kingpin has been kept in the dark about what has been going on with his day-to-day operations. After Spidey leaves, the Kingpin calls his first lieutenant, The Arranger, into his office. The two need to have a little chat.

Joy Mercado, begins spying on her friend and co-worker, Gloria Grant after she learns that Gloria has been dating known criminal Eduardo Lobo. While spying outside Gloria's apartment building, Joy notices the outline of a man climbing in a window in Gloria's apartment. Unbeknownst to Joy, it is in fact not a man but the large black-haired werewolf seen earlier in the issue. The wolf is in fact Eduardo Lobo. Eduardo uses his charm to convince Gloria to steal Daily Bugle files containing information about Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of Crime, against whom he and his brother are waging a war.

REVIEW: The story opens up at the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary where Robbie Robertson is currently imprisoned for the crime of misprision of felony. Although the penitentiary's primary purpose is the secure incarceration of convicted federal felons, Spider-Man still manages to get inside the prison walls unnoticed. He then proceeds to climb the outer wall of the main holding facility until he reaches Robbie Robertson's cell window. With a small "pssst" sound, Spidey manages to get the attention of Robbie, who is lying down on his bed, staring at the ceiling. Robbie, who appears to be very nervous, tells Spider-Man that, although he appreciates him visiting, if someone should see him, it could go on his record and be used against him at his parole hearing. Spidey replies that he doesn't want to cause any trouble and that he only wanted to see if he could help somehow. Spidey explains to Robbie that if he ever does need him, all he needs to do is tell Randy, his son, to contact Peter Parker, who will contact him. Sweating profusely, Robbie tells Spidey that he understands and begs him to leave. After Spidey is gone, it is revealed why Robbie was so nervous: Tombstone threatened him to keep silent about the two of them sharing a cellblock to his friends and family.

As Spidey web-slings away from the prison, his spider-sense begins tingling again. Assuming that he must simply be tired, he swings away into the night. Inside the video monitoring room, one of the prison guards spots Spider-Man web-slinging away on one of the video monitor screen. Believing that Spider-Man was sneaking around the prison yard plotting a breakout, the prison guard grabs the videotape with the footage of Spider-Man and sends it to the Daily Bugle, who is offering a $1,000.00 reward for evidence that Spidey is involved in criminal activities.

Two days later in Manhattan at the Plaza Hotel on Fifth Avenue near Central Park, Gloria Grant makes her way to suite number 7165 where her boyfriend, Eduardo Lobo, is staying momentarily. On the way there, she struggles with the fact that, at the request of her lover, she stole a file on Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. The Kingpin, from the Daily Bugle (in Web of Spider-Man #52). Never in most of her adult life has she ever had to wrestle with a guilty conscience until now. Gloria enters the room and finds Eduardo and his brother Carlos going over said Daily Bugle file with a myriad of other Latin American men. Eduardo notices Gloria and asks her what she is doing there to which she replies that she needs to talk to him. Eduardo stands up from his seat and leads Gloria outside the room where he thanks her for helping them obtain that very needed information. Gloria replies that her mind hasn't stopped racing all week and that the whole war between the Kingpin and them frightens her. She explains that she is afraid for him and her and that she feels extremely guilty for what she did. Eduardo grabs her by the shoulders, plants a (very) romantic kiss on her, and tells her that they will talk tonight at her apartment. As if in some sort of trance, Gloria silently takes her leave.

Meanwhile at Lazy Louie's Louisiana Luncheonette, home of fine Cajun cuisine, and midday hangout for friends and employees of the Daily Bugle, we find Flash Thompson and Betty Brant, having a cup of coffee. Flash is furious with the recent Daily Bugle headlines, which calls Spider-Man a menace. He tells Betty that he hates seeing Spidey smeared, especiallys because he's been his hero since high school. He starts saying that he should reform the Spidey Appreciation Society but stops talking when he spots Jonah's secretary, Gloria Grant, entering the diner. Gloria comes up to their table and asks if she can sit with them while she has a nervous breakdown. Betty asks what's wrong to which Gloria replies that the man she love is a mobster and has made her a thief.

Sixty miles outside Hartsdale, New Mexico, Thomas Fireheart, a.k.a. the Puma, has gone out for a run in the desert. After a while, he returns home and takes a look at the most recent edition of the Daily Bugle, which is running a story about Spider-Man being connected to an attempted prison breakout (as seen earlier). Owing a special debt of honour to Spider-Man, whom he mistakenly accused of being a common thief a few weeks prior due to a Daily Bugle article such as this one, Fireheart decides to make a few calls to discharge his debt of honour to the web-spinner.

Later that afternoon on Manhattan's Upper West Side, Peter and Mary Jane Parker are walking around looking for an apartment and discussing Peter's encounter with Robbie at the penitentiary a couple nights ago. Peter is upset because Robbie seemed so withdrawn and MJ tells him that she is as sorry for Robbie as he is, however, she also tells him they've got problems of their own. Peter admits that their apartment search hasn't been going very well but feels lucky that they have at least a room to stay in at Aunt May’s boarding house. MJ throws the newspaper she was holding in the garbage and tells Peter that she hates it. She explains that her modeling career may look glamorous but she worked hard for the money to buy their condo apartment, until Jonathon Caesar took it away from them (as seen in Amazing Spider-Man #314). Peter replies that it was his dream too and that someday they'll get it back. MJ concurs with Peter and tells him that she still has the most important thing in her life: their marriage. Peter agrees and tells her that no one can take that away from them. The two begin kissing when Peter suddenly notices the headline of the same Daily Bugle paper that Thomas Fireheart was looking at earlier – the one that connected Spider-Man to an attempted prison breakout. Peter is infuriated with the headline and squashes the newspaper, telling MJ that "he's had it", that "this finally does it". Peter tells MJ that he'll see her back at Aunt May's and walks away rapidly, like a man on a mission. Peter leaps aboard the box of a passing tandem truck and switches to his Spider-Man costume. He and J. Jonah Jameson are going to have a little chat.

Back at the Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary, Robbie Robertson is busy pressing some pants in the prison laundry when Tombstone appears out of nowhere and almost crushes his hands underneath the pressing machine. Pondering about running for it, Robbie looks towards the exit and sees that close to a dozen convicts are between him and the door. Robbie asks Tombstone what he wants and where the guards are. Tombstone replies that the guards are on break and that he has a lot of influence and friends in high places, both on the inside and outside. Tombstone proceeds to grab Robbie by the neck and tells the latter that he has no friends, unless he counts him as one. Then he goes on explaining that they were friends for twenty years until he, Robbie, turned him, Tombstone, to the "Feds". Having said that, he begins to choke Robbie but suddenly, a large black hand appears that grabs him by the neck. The man behind the hand, a humongous black man, named Bruiser, tells Tombstone that he doesn't like troublemakers, especially those that pick on little guys like Robbie. Tombstone somehow apologizes, lets go of Robbie and walks away. Still, that doesn't stop him from scheming to "take care" of Robbie when Bruiser is not around to protect him. Bruiser tells Robbie that the two of them are going to be "special friends" from now on. What he means by that remains to be seen.

Back in Manhattan, Nick Katzenberg is getting himself some food from a hotdog stand when he is suddenly pulled off the ground by a web-line that Spider-Man has shot at him from a nearby lamp post upon which he is standing upside down. Spidey doesn't waste any time and asks Katzenberg whose idea it was to campaign against him, Jonah's or his. Without hesitation, Katzenberg replies that it was Jonah's idea. Leaping away, Spidey tells Katzenberg "that's what he thought but he wanted to be sure". Still attached to the lamp post by Spidey's webline, Katzenberg asks Spidey if he's going to help him get down. As he takes his leave, Spidey tells Katzenberg that all he has to do is raise his hands. Stupidly, Katzenberg raises his hands, which causes him to slip out of his jacket and fall down.

Minutes later, Katzenberg appears in the Daily Bugle offices covered in hotdog condiments (he fell down on the hotdog stand) and all present burst out laughing at his predicament. As Katzenberg makes his way towards Jonah's office, he runs into Flash Thompson and calls him a meathead. Flash is ticked off but Betty Brant and Gloria Grant implore Flash to calm down. After all, they brought Gloria there to talk with Jonah, not get into a fight. Katzenberg tells them that if they want to see Jonah, they'll have to wait their turn after him. Suddenly, the four of them hear a clumping sound followed by moaning coming from Jonah's office. Katzenberg opens the door to Jonah's office and the four of them are stunned when they see what is happening in the office. Jonah is webbed up to the ceiling while Spider-Man stands on top of his desk, asking him why he's been hassling him, especially since they had a truce for months where Jonah was finally leaving him alone. Screaming, Jonah replies that nothing changed, that he is and has always been a menace. Spidey asks him why he doesn't print page one headlines about the attacks on the Kinpgin's crime organization instead of picking on him. Camera in hands, Katzenberg intervenes and tells Spidey that they're picking on him because he's an easy target. Having said that, Katzenberg takes a shot and tells Spidey that he's going to have a hard time explaining his way out of this. Flash tries to stop him from doing so but Katzenberg kicks him in the stomach and runs off. Seeing his friends there, Spidey realizes that every time he tries to fix things, he must makes them worse. The wall-crawler swing away, realizing that what he did will only fuel Jameson’s personal vendetta against him.

As a matter of fact, one hour later, the webbing that held Jonah Jameson to his ceiling finally dissolves. Jonah comes out of his office and tells Kate Cushing to call the press room to cancel the current run and print Katzenberg's picture of Spider-Man torturing him on page one with a sixty-point headline that reads "Spider-Thug Assaults Bugle Publisher". Gloria Grant, who had come to the Bugle to talk to Jonah, approaches him and tells him that she has something to tell him, which may result in her being fired. Jonah replies that he's in too good of a mood to fire anyone and asks what her story is. Gloria responds that she stole the Bugle's master file on the Kingpin and gave it to Eduardo Lobo. Jonah doesn't appear mad at all and simply replies that he had been wondering where that file went. Then heading into his office, he actually thanks her for letting him know. Gloria is surprised and tells Jonah that Eduardo intends to use that file to plot an attack on the Kingpin's office towers. She adds that they're all looking at a gang war if their plan works out. Jonah replies that it's probably not that bad and that even if it were, it wouldn't be their concern. He adds that gang wars make good copy and might even help them increase their circulation. Gloria is stupefied and asks Jonah if he's serious. Jonah replies that he's never been more serious in his life and excuses himself to go write the article to go with Katzenberg's picture. After Jonah closes the door behind him, he realizes that his scheme to steal the real Jonah Jameson's identity so as to destroy Spider-Man's reputation and plan his own assault on Fisk tower with the aid of his new partner Hammerhead is going even better than he had hoped. As he ponders about how things have turned out for the better, the fake Jonah slowly transforms into the Chameleon. Chameleon is glad that the Lobo Brothers are going to besiege the Kingpin because when they finish, he'll be there to sweep up the pieces and take his place as New York's new crime lord.

Later that night in Chelsea outside Gloria Grant's apartment building, Gloria thanks Betty and Flash for dinner and especially for listening. Flash tells Gloria that he and Betty think she should call the cops on Eduardo. Betty adds that Eduardo could be dangerous. Gloria replies that she understands and appreciates their concern but after talking to Jonah, she is more confused than ever. As she makes her way inside the apartment building and before wishing them good night, she tells them that she needs to hear Eduardo's side of the story first before making up her mind. She enters her dark apartment and ponders about whether or not she should have told them that she was meeting Eduardo at her apartment that night. She calls for Eduardo and finds him in the bedroom looking out the window. Eduardo turns towards her and tells her he is sorry that it must end this way. Gloria is confused and asks him what he means by that. Eduardo replies that he heard the doubt in her voice earlier that morning and that sooner or later, she will betray him and his brother. As he says that, his shirt starts ripping apart and hair starts growing all over his body. As he transforms into some kind of large wolf, he tells her that she will betray them especially when she learns the truth about who they really are: Los Hermanos Lobos, which translates into The Brother Wolves. Fully transformed into a large wolf with glowing red eyes, Eduardo asks Gloria for forgiveness and tells her that he truly loves her.

To be continued.
