REVIEW:
In the last few issues of Marvel Knights Spider-Man, as well as Amazing Spider-Man and Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker was killed by Morlun, a vampiric parasite, only to be brought back to life by the Great Weaver, some kind of godly entity. This resulted in Peter being the recipient of new abilities by embracing the spider within him. It also resulted in the appearance of a spider-like creature as some sort of counter-balance to Peter having been resurrected. Peter had a brief encounter with the creature but it disappeared and concealed itself inside a cocoon at an unknown location. Will it ever emerge? Only time will tell. Now, Peter tries to get back to a semblance of a normal life. That is easier said than done when you are a bona fide superhero in secret.

ACT 1: Avengers Tower. Mary Jane Parker awakens in the middle of the night and finds herself alone in bed. She heads over to the balcony overlooking the City and finds Peter, in his Spider-Man costume, sitting on the edge of the parapet wall and staring at the New York City skyline. She is surprised to find him there and asks what he is doing up. He replies that he felt something wrong and that he is going out on patrol. Having said that, he pulls down his mask and throws himself off the building.

ACT 2: The next morning, Mary Jane wakes up and heads into the kitchen where Peter and Aunt May are already sipping on cups of coffee. She sits down with them and asks Peter how his night was. A flashback sequence shows that he battled the Vulture, whom has gone back to wearing his old green costume, as opposed to the new one introduced in Marvel Knights Spider-Man a little while ago. Spidey obviously won.

ACT 3: Dr. Curt Connors is looking through a microscope when he gets a phone call from a Dr. Treyman who is seeking his help to study a rock. Though Connors is a herpetologist and not a geologist, he agrees to have a look at it.

ACT 4: Later that day, Peter arrives at the Bronx Zoo, shows his Daily Bugle ID card to a police officer and is given access to a crime scene. Said crime scene is in fact inside a monkey's cage where dozens of monkeys are dead, their blood spilled all over the place. After taking pictures of the gruesome scene, Peter is taken to the rhinoceros containment area where two large rhinos lay dead on the ground. A black guard explains that the rhinos rammed against the concrete wall over and over until their necks broke. Peter is perplexed and asks the guard why they killed themselves. The guard cannot explain it; all that he knows is that all the animals went crazy, even if it wasn’t a full moon the previous night.

ACT 5: Later that day, at the offices of the Daily Bugle, John Jameson sits in the lobby and waits for his father, J. Jonah Jameson, to come out of a meeting. In walks Mary Jane, who was in the neighborhood and decided to stop by to see if Peter was there; obviously, he is not. John, an old acquaintance of MJ's, comes over to talk to her. The conversation is brief because MJ is feeling under the weather and she tells John that they'll meet up later. She walks away and unbeknownst to her, she drops her scarf. John picks it up and has this weird look in his eyes.

ACT 6: Peter is riding the subway when his spider-sense kicks in. He makes his way through dozens upon dozens of people to pinpoint the source. What he finds is really not what he had expected. What appears to be the source of the danger is a young girl hiding a puppy underneath her jacket; dogs are not allowed on the subway. Peter is perplexed and wonders what the heck is going on.

ACT 7: In another part of town, it appears that Dr. Curt Connors is having problems containing the Lizard within him. Back at Avengers Tower, MJ is on the phone with Peter while Aunt May watches the news on TV. The news broadcast talks about a string of violent crimes that have plagued the City. Over the phone, Peter explains that his spider-sense is off the wall and that it keeps going off for all the wrong reasons. MJ suggests he comes home and is just about to tell Peter that she ran into John Jameson at the Bugle when Peter gets a call on the other line and he must hang up with her; MJ is not pleased. Walking around the room, she asks Aunt May if she likes living in Avengers Tower, because she – MJ – wouldn't mind her and Peter having their own place. Aunt May replies that, though she is fond of Jarvis, the Avenger's butler, she likes the idea of being closer to the ground. As she utters those words, she turns to MJ and asks what she is doing with a knife in her hands. MJ is as stunned about this as she is and can't explain it.

ACT 8: Using caller ID, Peter/Spidey calls Dr. Curt Connors back (it was him that called). Things are not going too well for Connors; his transformation into the Lizard is underway and he doesn't think he can stop it from happening. Spidey tells him to hang on and web-slings into the night towards Connors' apartment. As he makes his way over there, Connors tells him that he might have hurt his son, Billy, who is also there with him. Spidey implores Connors to hang on but next thing you know, a scream is heard and there is no answer. Meanwhile, at Connor's apartment, both father and son are now transformed into human-size lizard.

To be continued.
