In case you aren't
aware, this is a movie currently in the making starring Mel Gibson and
Milla Jovovich amongst many. Bono wrote the screenplay for it and it is
directed by Wim Wenders (the man who directed the 'Stay [Faraway, so close!]'
video).
PREMIERE, issue 273, December 99.
" The hotel,
the days of glory of which go back up(raise) in the years
30, became a refuge,
a stopping-off place pouir any sorts of people in restless
fates. The singer
Bono has decouvert the place on the occasion of the shooting
of a clip with U2,
more than ten years ago, and began quickly throwing(casting)
on the paper of ideas
for a scenario of film. Wim Wenders, met him also on the
shooting of a clip,
was seduced by the project. And Nicolas Klein, who had
already collaborated
with the director on the scenario of
" The End of Violence
", put himself in the work with Bono.
Action places
itself in a close future. Wenders insists on the fact
that it is about a
history of love. Milla Jovovich and Jeremy Davies (noticed
in "Saving Private
Ryan" and recommended to Wenders by Sean Penn) interpret
two lost eccentrics
who look for themselves. And that are. Noise says even that,
to get ready for their
roles, the two comedians settled down in the hotel before
the shooting to be
better allowed penetrate by the spirit of the place. But in
the heart of this
history, there is also a crime and an inquiry, led by a
policeman all the
more steep as it carries(wears) a Platen machine. It is Mel
Gibson that plays
the role of the policeman. And Jimmy Smits, in total break
with the look of carving
of mode (fashion) of " New York police blues ", that of
the gangster. Amanda
Plummer, Peter Stormare and Gloria Stuart, discount for
stream by Titanic,
complete distribution.
The director knows
indeed perfectly the city because he has his
districts in the hills
of Hollywood. But among the numerous Germans of the
technical team and
the Irishman Bono in the scenario, atmosphere remain very
European. Bono, that
will be also credited among the producers, makes a brief
appearance in the
film. And it is question of four U2's new songs for the
soundtrack.
"The Million
Dollar Hotel " could go out in the United States
before the end of
year, to be running in the Oscars.
