74 PORT CREDIT Route History

February 10th, 1935

Due to highway widening, the PORT CREDIT radial car line was discontinued after last trip on February 9th, and was replaced the following day by the PORT CREDIT bus, running from Long Branch Loop via Lake Shore Road to Mississauga Road, then wyeing and returning.

Extended west on Lake Shore to wye at Pine & Lake Shore.

May 15th, 1950

Using new loop at Pine & Lake Shore instead of wyeing at this point.

July 1st, 1954

New zone-fare system inaugurated, with two zones on line: Long Branch Loop to Beechwood Avenue, and Beechwood to Pine. Transfers accepted between LONG BRANCH cars and QUEENSWAY buses at Long Branch Loop when proper inter-zone fares are paid.

October 16th to October 19th, 1954

Due to heavy rains caused by Hurricane Hazel washing out Lake Shore Road and the bridge over Mississauga Creek, service diverted both ways via Stavebank, Queen Elizabeth Way and Mississauga Road to regular route.

September 2nd, 1956

Assigned route number 74.

January 23rd, 1966

Operations changed to new Queensway Garage instead of from Parkdale Garage.

February 8th, 1976

Route discontinued. Mississauga Transit assumes responsibility for service on Lake Shore Road west of Long Branch Loop as its route 23.
