This article is one of a continuing series, which is written by Jeffrey Kay,
with the accompanying map by Alan Gryfe. In this article, Toronto Transportation
Commission and Toronto Transit Commission service in the Lawrence Avenue corridor
to Martin Grove Road in the west is reviewed, with a history of the
WESTWAY Shoppers' Service and the 98
WESTWAY route.
WESTWAY "Shopper's Route"
December 14th, 1959
A new Monday through Friday "shoppers' service" is introduced in central
Etobicoke to operate between the rush hours. Buses run from Humbertown Plaza (on
Royal York Road just north of Dundas Street) via The Kingsway, Islington Avenue,
The Westway, Benbow, Saskatoon and Lawrence Avenue to Weston Road, looping north
and east on Little, south on Main Street and west on Lawrence, then returning
over the same route to Humbertown Plaza.

September 6th, 1960
Route discontinued coincident with the extension of the 45
KIPLING route to Weston.
98 WESTWAY
September 4th, 1962
A new route from Weston Road and Lawrence Avenue via Lawrence, Royal York Road,
Trehorne and The Westway, looping west on Redgrave, north and east on Waterbury
and south on Martin Grove Road.
