WORKIN'
I have also had my fair share of jobs and internships. While in college, I worked for The Harvard Family Research Project in the Publications department; Beacon Press as a marketing intern; MediaMap as a super-temporary writer/editor; Pegasus Communications, publisher of the Systems Thinker; Herrells Ice Cream as a scooper; the Science Center Prep Room as a media aide; Harvard Student Agencies, where I worked as a server/bartender in Catering and as Researcher-Writer for Let's Go (see above); and some other places that don't have web sites. One summer I worked as an accounting intern at the New York branch of Credit Agricole, a French bank. During my year-long leave of absence, I worked for Borders Books and Music, a long-time hang-out of mine. In addition to doing crew for a couple of films, I also had the opportunity to work for Image Comics with its brand new web page, and for Original Film, which does not have a web page, new or old. Check out their most recent feature.
I was not futzing around in high school, either, although my activities were heavily influenced by Madeira's co-curriculum program. My senior year was spent interning for VideoTakes, mentioned in this creative directory. Junior year, I followed the crowd and interned on Capitol Hill with Representative Christopher Shays, a congressman from my then-home, Connecticut. Sophomore year marks the beginning of my encounters with the working world; I was a teacher's assistant at Haycock, my old elementary school.
Now I am a working woman. After working on a couple of features thanks to a friend, I started interning at the Kordek Agency, which represents composers and music supervisors for film and television (let me just tell you how many times I've had to let that tongue twister out in a conversation). After working several other part time, temporary jobs, I got a job as an assistant to a TV producer. The show I worked on is called "Total Recall 2070," based on the same Philip K. Dick short story that was the basis of the eponymous movie. Our show debuted in the United States on March 7 on Showtime. After the season ended on the show, I worked at the Kordek Agency until I *finally* found a gig as a Writers' Assistant on the syndicated television show "Beastmaster," based on the eponymous 1982 film starring Marc Singer. I quickly found another job working in the Television Literary Department (aka TV Lit) at the Gersh Agency. NOW I'm the typical struggling writer. I left Gersh to complete several writing projects, polishing off a WEST WING spec and a BUFFY. I also completed a Batman comic book story and I have an original short to boot.
