American Spotted Paso Breed Standard
The American Spotted Paso should exhibit:
- A 4-beat lateral gait - preferably a Paso Llano or Sobreandando
- An obvious 'Pinto' coat pattern - Tobiano, Overo, or Sabino
- A classical 'Spanish' appearance
- Strength, vigor, and presence
At the ASPR our objective is to breed and promote the 'American Spotted Paso', a newly formed hybrid breed of horse developed for smoothness of gait combined with the 'Brio' and charisma of the Peruvian Paso, with emphasis on strength and gait along with a flashy colored coat pattern! All horses registered must be a minimum of 50% Peruvian blood and more specifically 'must' have at least one purebred Peruvian parent. The other percentage of the cross must be of a gaited breed from an 'approved' breed registry.
Eventually it is hoped to be able to breed American Spotted Pasos that have as much as 31/32% and 63/64% Peruvian blood, while maintaining the Tobiano, Overo, and Sabino coat patterns.
