Unpleasantly Plump

by P. Sebastian Strong

The young boy bounced between
his mother and father
To the right, Paternity
To the left, Maternity

They screamed at each other
in terms the child didn't know

Of drinking and divorce
Of vows and vice
Of matrimony = alimony
Only the trip to grandma's house
made any sense to him but
didn't make him happy

In his left arm he held
a stuffed teddy bear
in his right hand he clutched
a mini aluminum baseball bat
