Dryas

Dryas plants are often associated with fell fields, or where vegetation is thin. These flowers are very suited for arctic environment. In the rose family, Dryas are dwarf, creeping shrubs. Sometimes where an area is dominated by these shrubs, the area is considered a Dryas fell field. The distinctive plants can be pale yellow or white, and have evergreen leaves. The shape of the flower ables the plant to follow the sun and focus its rays on the reproductive structures. It is shaped as a type of "parabolic reflector" (To The Arctic, p. 197) to raise its temperature.
