After high school, she attended Mount Vernon College, in Washington, DC, for a year. She dropped out after her step cousin, Ian(who she was also romanticlly involved with) encouraged her to move to New York City, to pursue a career in modeling and acting. She agreed, and soon got her first part, a 3 day role on the soap, "As The World Turns" However, her big break came in 1982, when she was the girl Bruce Springsteen danced with in his "Dancin In The Dark" video. For the next 12 years or so, Courteney appeared in many tv shows and movies, most notably, "Family Ties" and the movie, "Ace Ventura:Pet Detective". During these years she also dated actor Micheal Keaton.
In spring of 1994, Courteney got an audition for a tv show called "Friends Like Us". She was originally asked to try out for the part of"Rachel" because she was so pretty. She declined, because she felt a better connection with the "Monica" charector. She got the part of "Monica Gellar"(The "Rachel part eventually went to Jennifer Aniston>)After a few monthes, and a name change, "Friends" became a top rated sitcom, and Courteney Cox became a household name.
Recently, Courteney can be seen in the movie "Commandments" as well as the hugely successful slasher flicks "Scream" and "Scream 2". She has been romantically linked to her "Scream" costar David Arquette.
COurteney's future plans include starring in the upcoming movie, "Scream 3".
