In Memory of Greg Moore

April 22, 1975 to October 31, 1999

This candle will forever burn in the memory of one phenominal race car driver, Greg Moore. He was in the prime of his racing career when he met his untimely death. All of British Columbia, Canada, the fans of Cart racing, the Cart organization, all over the world for that matter are feeling this tremendous loss. Retired F1 car racer, now car racing owner Jackie Stewart sent flowers as well as David Letterman, who is also a co-owner of a CART race car. I have some friends over in the UK that were feeling the loss. The memory of him will live forever in our hearts and minds. Please leave some words of condolences and your thoughts in the Guestbook below. I will do my best to get this to the Moore family. Coquitlam & Maple Ridge, BC, Canada is where Greg Moore grew-up. At the time of his death he was living in Maple Ridge. The year Greg Moore was born, I had just gotten into watching car racing, especially CART (well at that time, in 1975, it was called Indy). I first saw news articles in the local Tri-city newspaper on Greg Moore when he was top in the carting circuit when he was 11 years old. At 17 he won the Formula 2000 Championship, at 19 he won the Indy Lights Championship, winning 10 out of the 12 races! He was also the youngest, at 22, to win the Milwakee Mile race track. Greg Moore lived on wheels, from race cars to luxury street vehicles, to buses, you'd find him. Yesterday Moore, a young racing prodigy who made a career out of winning young, died during the final CART race of 1999 at the Morlboro 500 in Fontana, California, which was one of his favourite tracks along with the Portland track. The 24 year old Maple Ridge native appeared to lose control as his No. 99, Reynard-Mercedes came off Turn 2. He was airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center. Dr. Steve Olvey, director of medical affairs for Championship Auto Racing Teams, said Moore sustained massive head injuries "and other associated internal injuries." Moore was pronounced dead at 1:21 pm pst, before the race was even over. The drivers weren't told until the race was over, what had happened to Greg. Moore's home was the road, outside of the few weeks a year he'd spend with his dad Ric and his stepfamily in Maple Ridge, BC, Canada or his mom in Coqutlam. Guarded public, his warm, boyish side came out in private, whether he was pulling pranks, flashing a beautiful white smile, slapping you on the back or giving you a friendly handshake. He would go out of his way for charities he supported and always had time to sign a autographs for his fans. Racers Max Papis of Italy, Brazilian Tony Kanaan, Scot Dario Frachitti and Moore were known as the Brat Pack after several legendary parties. His spirit shines through the eyes of the younger kids that are in go-carting and look up to Greg Moore as a idol and want to be just like him when they grow up.

If you have a few moments please sign my guestbook with a few words about Greg Moore
