Somerset and Devon Walks

England in my opinion, is more scenic than where I am in California.  There are more places and opportunities to take a nice walk.  Many of the places I went just happened to be along the coast too!  Jon and I took several walks throughout the year, mainly in Devon and around the Weston area.  This page features pictures from three locations where we walked: East Prawle in Devon, Torcross (also in Devon), and Brean Down in Somerset.

First up, East Prawle.  The road I'm standing on is an operational 2-way road.  It's barely wide enough for me to outstretch my arms!

The road heading down toward the English Channel.  The water in the distance is breathtaking.

Uh-oh, we've come across a flooded muddy walkway.  It doesn't bother me.  Good thing I have my wellies on so I can walk right through!

This is a lookout tower at Prawle Point.  They keep track of the boats in the water, sort of like the Coast Guard.  Unfortunately, it's too windy to smile so I just covered up my head with my hat!

A nice coast shot from Prawle Point to Start Point where a nice white lighthouse still operates.

Whoa, scaling these walls is not easy...almost there!

And now...Torcross!  This is only a few miles away from East Prawle but it still provides a different view yet again.  The beach is a pebble beach and the waves crashing in are so relaxing.

Looking away from the waves, it's the village of Torcross.  The best thing about this place is the Start Bay Inn.  They serve excellent Fish and Chips!  Check out  Karen's Visit for our Start Bay meal!

Now we're back in Somerset.  The Brean Down walk is just across the way from Weston so we made the drive to get there.  The most strenuous part of the walk is the steep stair climb to the top of the hill.  If you look closely at the center of the picture, you can see people going up!

Uphill from Brean Down.  We had done that walk earlier in the year.

Weston-super-Mare from Brean Down.  It's neat looking at the town from another perspective.  Wales is also in the distance.

The beach at Brean Down.  The weather wasn't the best so we skipped the sunbathing.

At the end of Brean Down is an abandoned fort.  It has been somewhat preserved and is interesting to look around.

Yay, I've reached the very end!
