Exploration/Invasion:
\ In the year of 1517,Diego Velazquez,the governor of Cuba sent ships under Francisco Fernandez de Cordoba to explore to the west and search for treasure.Cordoba found the Yucatan Peninsula and brought back reports of large cities.Velazquez sent Juan de Grijalva in 1518.Grijalva explored the Mexican coast from Yucatan to what is now Veracruz.


Education:
The law requires all children in Mexico to attend school between 6 and 14 years of age.The rate of literacy is 90 percent.

Education is free in Canada,for elementary and high school students.Schools hours are Monday through Friday full day.In Canada we have individually classes for each grade.

Mexican and Canadian law requires all children from the age of 6 through 14 to go to school.After kindergarden a child of elementary school consists of 6 years,then 5 years of High School.

Mexicans village schools sometimes have all six premary grades in one classroom.



Customs:
Costoms are traditional ways of behaving.In the country of Mexico there are several interesting customs which are described below.

1/ Ancient ways of life are still followed in many of Mexico's Indian villages,but are slowly being replaced by modern customs.The Tarascan Indian,like thier ancestors,use bugouts and batherfly nets to catch fish in Lake Patzcuaro.

2/ Bullfighting is the most popular spectator sport in Mexico. Many small towns have bullrings where amatures bullfighters perform against young bulls.The major rings are in Acapulco,above,and other large cities.

3/ A Mexican craftworker weaves a traditional Mexican fabric design.The country is famous for its beautiful crafts that reflect the Indian and Spanish heritage of the people.



Visitor's Guide:
1/ Ancient pyramids and temples attract visitors to Teotihuaian(House of the Gods) northeast of Mexico City.The huge Pyramid of the Sun,rear,is over 200 feet(61 meters)high.

2/ Mexico City has one of the world's loveliest boulevards,the Paseo de la Reforma,left.Modern skipcrapers rise above a statue of Christoper Columbus in one of the seven beautifully landscaped traffic circler at major intersections along this boulevard.

3/ The Yucatan is a low plateau of limestone with many large pits.These pits were sacred wells of the Maya Indians.Riuns of chichen Itza,a Maya city,stand near one pit.

A legend says the Aztec Indians built their capital Tenochtitlan(now Mexico City) where they saw an eagle perched on a cacters and devouring a snake.
