Info About Diablo
Diablo is a multiplayer game played via the internet, designed by Blizzard Entertainment. Blizzard Entertainment in association with MindSpring and Primenet provide free access servers, the Battle.Net, to play Diablo on. From all over the world, thousands upon thousands of people access these servers to play Diablo on at the same time. Not only is Diablo a game, but it has a very good chat forum, in which users can join several established chat channels, other people's chat channels, or even create their own chat channel.

The game itself is basically a hack 'em and slash 'em type game, that a very imaginative person can role-play. A player can join other people's games or create your own game. Each game created can have a maximum of four players at the same time. The object of the game is to build a player's character(s) up in levels, items, and wealth. Each character begins as a level 1, and can achieve a maximum of level 50. In every game created there are 16 randomly generated levels each with increasing difficulty. Levels 1-4 are called the Church/Dungeon levels, levels 5-8 are called the Catacombs, levels 9-12 are called the Caves, and levels 13-16 are called Hell. There are three different game difficulties: Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. Normal difficulty is the beginning of a player's adventures. All players must play in normal level until their character reaches level 20. At level 20 a player is allowed to join Nightmare difficulty games. Nightmare difficulty games are for more experienced Diablo players. Once a character reaches level 30 a player is allowed to join Hell difficulty games. Hell difficulty games are for the most experienced Diablo players, people who have mastered the game.

Common and Known Bugs On Battle.Net
Duplicate Item Detected: This phrase often pops up when you first join a game even though there is no one duping. A player may also see this phrase when latency on Battle.Net causes a split in the game data where one player sees certain items that others players can not see. One the same level, sometimes a player can not pick up items that other players can. This may also caused the Duplicate Item Detected bug.

Chat Channel/Game Splits: Latency on Battle.Net causes this bug. The lag between two players causes this bug. Players can not hear or see other players in the same chat channel or game. In chat channels you may see two different channel operators at the same time. This can be achieved by player with some knowledge without Battle.Net latency being a factor, but most often it is due to Battle.Net latency. To avoid this situation in a game try to only play games with people that had a good lag time towards you (green is most preferable).

Disappearing Items: Latency on Battle.Net causes this bug. In a game a player sees an item...attempts to pick it up, but it remains there. So the player tries again, and it appears to pick it up, however when the player looks into his/her inventory it is gone. To avoid this situation, when a player sees that the item is not picked up immediately after he/she clicks on it DO NOT attempt to pick the item up again. Leave the item lie, it will eventually find its way into the players inventory.

Tips and Tricks On Faster Connections
Tip & Trick #1: COM Ports: Make sure your COM port settings are correct. If you are using a 14.4K modem or higher, and your COM port is set for 9,600bps you will want to increase your setting. Make the COM port setting at least 56K, and in most cases you will want it set to 115K. Set the Flow Control to Hardware. On the Advanced tab set to "Use FIFO buffers" option and set them to the highest settings. Protocol: Remove protocols that you do not use, namely NetBEUI or IPX. You can keep the protocols if you like, and just make sure your Dial Up Network is prevented from establishing the NetBEUI or IPX protocols while connecting to your ISP. Under your Dial Up Network (My Computer) folder, find the connection to the internet you currently use. Go to Properties, then Server Types. Then uncheck the protocols you do not use. Dial Up Network: Under your Dial Up Network (My Computer) folder, find the connection to the internet you currently use. Go to Properties, then Configure. Make sure your Maximum Speed is set correctly. Then go to the Connection tab. You will see an Advanced tab. Under the Advanced tab you will see a place for data called Extra Settings. Add this string to the extra settings section at&f. This initialization string may make your connection to the internet faster.

Tip & Trick #2: To get on to Battle.Net with a faster/newer server, and to get rid of ghosts (a character that you see on Battle.Net, but really is not there) that you have been seeing all day do the following steps. Find the program called regedit.exe on your hard drive. This is your registry editor. Run the program. You will see a folder called HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. Go to that folder. Once there you will see a folder called SOFTWARE. Go to that folder. Once there you will see a Battle.Net folder. Go to that folder. Once there you will see a Configuration folder. Go to that folder. There you should see a list of items one being the Server List. Take out all the data in that list and log back on to Battle.Net. This should take care of any ghost problems you are having and may even make Diablo run a little faster for you. This is a good way of getting back control of a chat channel that is lagged down by a bunch of ghosts! This is not a permanent change. You will have to do this each time you log on to Battle.Net.
