The Art of Hans Krakhofer
Hans Krakhofer was born in 1918 in Austria and died on October 18,1997. Joining the German Navy in 1938 he was captured when H.M.S.Cornwall a British cruiser sank his ship. Krakhofer spent several years as POW in northern Ontario,Canada. 16 colour images are repoduced on one page;most date from his captivity days.
A very finely produced page with good background details.
Hoegel Art Collection
Georg Hoegel's donation of 315 of his POW generated works to the Thunder Bay Museum in August 1997 inspired this page and the two images reproduced as a linked page.
See the Ubootkameradschaft Muenchen above for further service details.
The Changi Murals
Stanley Warren's 5 extant murals painted on the walls of Roberts Barracks,Changi,(Singapore)while he was a POW of the Imperial Japanese during World War II. The artist was captured at the fall of the city in 1942 and served at the time as a bombardier with the 15th.Field Regiment,Royal Regiment of Artillery. A poignant text relates the history of how and why these murals were created and survived. Recommended!
NCMPA - Pencil Drawings
An interesting page of 6 thumbnails(enlargeable)made purportedly by a Colonel Nader,Kuwaiti Army c.1991. Although interesting we could hopefully wish for more fuller authentication and documentation regarding these drawings. The site's sponsor is the "National Committee for Missing and POW's Affairs - Kuwait".
