MEMORIALS and MONUMENTS


This page is dedicated to the memorials,monuments and any other means used to commemorate,memorialize past conflicts anywhere. It therefore encompasses both governmental and non-governmental,secular and ecclesiastical/religious derived and/or manifested artworks. Related subjects such as trophies of war as a subject in their own right as well as indirectly military museology are incorporated presently here as well.

    A fine site that hopefully will eventually have on-line its holdings/information on Great Britain's war memorials/monuments.
  • The Commonwealth War Graves Commission
    A very good site with an on-line db of 1.7 million + 1914-1945 armed forces' dead plus 60,000 civilian KIA due to enemy action covering 1939-1945.

    This is the register referred to above produced and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

  • DVA - Commemorations - War Graves
    This is the official site of the Office of Australian War Graves which is also charged with maintaining many including many overseas war memorials/monuments.
  • American Battle Monuments Commission
    A straightforward site of the official American Federal level body that does the equivalent to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission(with certain noteable exceptions).
  • Vietnam Veterans Memorials
    A non-governmental site listing with active links memorials and monuments from around the world as well as the United States. Very useful starting point.
  • Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgraeber fuersorge
    The German equivalent to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission above.
  • Secretariat d'Etat aux Anciens Combattants
    From France the French equivalent to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission above.
  • Canadian War Memorials Project
    A new as of late fall of 1999 Canadian initiative to document individual Canadian war memorials and the persons commemorated on same. Admirable!
  • Harry Palmer Gallery
    From Calgary,Alberta,Canada a wonderful site by a Canadian photographer's 1980's-1990's well over 100 photos of Canadian war memorials and monuments focussed on 1914-1945. The photos include many overseas items and are chronologically/geographically arranged. Highly recommended!
