Young Gun Fighters

These boys are the ten best young gun fighters in the game. Some of them are down on the farms but have impressed me when they get called up to the bigs. Some are already in the bigs and are making names for themselves. Again, the list will change as guys get called up from the farm and sent down.

PATRICK COTE

Dallas Stars

6'3, 199 pounds

Haven't seen much of him at all this year except for the pre-season where he fought Tony Twist about 5 times. Actually impressed me because he held his own against the toughest guy in the league. He didn't win them all, but still, had the guts to drop the gloves with the Twister and that gives him alot of credit. Also fought Bob Probert a few times and held his own too. Beat Jim McKanzie and Stu Grimson. In a few years, when he further develops his skill and experience, he will be one of the top heavyweights.

FRANK BIALOWAS

Philadelphia Phantoms

5'11, 220 pounds

They call him "The Animal" and if you have seen him fight, you will know why. This guy is already a legend in the AHL and in a short time, will be up showing his stuff in the NHL. Goes nuts when he fights, reminds me alot of a smaller Tony Twist.

KRZYZSTOF OLIWA

New Jersey Devils

6'5, 236 pounds

Leads the NHL in fighting majors and he is a rookie. Has been beaten quite a bit but again, he is only a rookie and has the size and strength to dominate in years to come. Has a sound fighting style and looks like he knows what he is doing.

ZDENO CHARA

New York Islanders/Kentucky Thoroughblades

6'9, 235 pounds

Tallest player to ever play professional hockey. This guy is a monster who stands over 7 feet tall on skates. Pretty agile for a guy that big. Not a very technical scrapper but he uses his long arms to his advantage as he holds them back and pounds away as the other guy is trying to get inside. He will be with the Islanders next season.

WADE BELAK

Hershey Bears

6'4, 235 pounds

Great fighter in Junior and has gotten better in the AHL. Will be the Avalanche enforcer in a few years. Bonus for the Avs is Belak is also a solid defenceman and not a liability like Frankie Leroux or Jeff Odgers.

PETER WORRELL

New Haven Beast/Florida Panthers

NO IMAGE AVAILABLE

6'6, 249 pounds

Impressed alot of people as he soundly destroyed Craig Berube a few years ago as a 18 year old. Has a huge reach but his only problem is his balance. It aint that good. Hard to believe but he coulnd't even skate backwards 4 years ago. If he improves his balance, he will be another feared NHL enforcer.

AARON DOWNEY

Providence Bruins

6'0, 205 pounds

Smaller fighter, will most likely be a middleweight in the NHL but a good one at that. Has fought all the big boys in the AHL and hasn't fared that badly, although he hasn't won much. Has good skill and has the heart to win but size may hamper that. Will be the Bruins enforcer once Ken Baumgartner leaves.

P.J. STOCK

Hartford Wolfpack/New York Rangers

5'11, 185 pounds

Another smaller fighter that has spent a fair amount of time with the Rangers this year. This guy is a carbon copy is "Bam Bam" Barnaby. He will fight anyone, although not fare to well, and agitate the opposing players into taking dumb penalties. This is the type of guy that you love to hate if he is on the opposing team, but you love him if he is on your team, like "Bam Bam"

ROB SKRLAC

Albany River Rats

6'6, 250 pounds

One word describes this guy, HUGE! He can easily dominate a fight using his size and strength alone. The Sabres will be kicking themselves in the next few years for not keeping this guy because he will be one of the top heavyweights in years to come. Amazingly good on his feet for such a big guy and has amazing stamina. he can throw the bomb, as well as take a punch. This guy will be in New Jersey's lineup in a few seasons.

AND LASTLY, MY FAVORITE FIGHTER...........ROCKY THOMPSON!!!

6'2, 205 pounds

Well, what can I say about this guy. He was my favorite when he played junior, now he is my favorite that has played in the NHL. Just look at the guy and you can easily tell that he aint no goal scorer. See, the thing that amazes me about this guy is that he doesn't look like much, but once the gloves go off, he is as tough as they come. Ferocious fighter who can hit VERY hard and can take a punch too. Doesn't pick his spots as he will fight anyone at anytime. Undefeated in last few season's in Junior and currently undefeated in the AHL and NHL. Played 4 games with the Flames recently getting into 6 fights, Brent Severyn, Dave Karpa, 2 with Oliwa and Matt Johnson, and not losing one. Very emotional fighter as he usually lets out a loud scream after he fights. This guy will be a fan favorite not only in Calgary, but in other cities as well. Brings something to the game that no one has before.

Well, this is the list of fighters that I think will make names for themselves in the NHL if they have not done it already. I realize that some of these guys may never make it to the bigs so some will drop off the list and some will be included. I will keep you posted on any changes.
