The weekend thus far

Friday
Hillel was having a video scavenger hunt and I said "those are always fun, I'll go!" And I did have fun. First there were some getting to know each other games and then we were put into teams and off we went. My team was Felicia, Rena and this alumni Ava. I did the majority of the filming. Our six tasks were to find some nail polish (because we couldn't spend any money) and give a guy a manicure, ask someone out with a cheesy line, sing our favorite Hanukkah song for a minute in a store downtown, pump a stranger's gas and talk to them the whole time, have a "bum" sing a Christmas carol and dance for a dollar, and find items that make up a bannana split. The guy for our manicure was so weird. I swear he was already high/stoned and then was trying to sniff the nail polish fumes. The condition of asking a guy out with a cheesy line was that you didn't stop until he said "fine." The poor guy Rena was trying to ask out...she and the rest of us were trying to make him say fine by rhyming it and it took him a few minutes to get it. We went into some random store downtown to sing our Hanukkah song and filled out some business class survey for the girl working there's friend in exchange for letting us sing. The woman who's gas we ended up pumping ended up being from Calabasas so Rena and I got so excited and we totally were able to talk to her for the whole time. She and her friend also wanted dinner recommendations so that worked out really well. And then there was the "bum" thing. One group got to the only "bums" downtown and had them do it. By the time our group go there, they, and this other guy with them who was denied doing the carol by the previous group because he wasn't a "bum", were pissed that we turned their situation into a game. We left but came back a few minutes later and said that we agreed with them and asked if we could get his opinion on tape for the organizers. Then there was the banana split thing. It wasn't made clear that were suppose to bring all those ingredients back and not just get them on film so none of the groups had those. We found out why when we got back and there was ice cream for us. Fortunately they had some items there already so we did have a special treat. The event was a lot of fun. It restored my faith in Hillel events.

Saturday
I spent a few hours cleaning up downstairs in preparation for Game Night. Both Kathryn and Julie saw me cleaning. When Julie saw me she said "Oh wow, you're cleaning? Thanks!" I had to bite my tounge from saying "No problem." She then promised to "clean next." I'd like to note that that's what she said the past two or three times I've cleaned up the place and she hasn't done anything. Kathryn did clean up a bit by doing most of her dishes (finally!) and clearing the hallway to the bathroom and her room. Nothing like having company to get your roommates to clean up. Well when inspection time comes I'm going to just sit back, relax and say "have fun." Anyway, after the cleaning I went and got a new light bulb for our lamp in the living room, had dinner and then people started to arrive. By 7:30 it was just me, Tyler, Kevin, Randy and Rena. By 8:30 we had doubled that with the arrival of Victor, Ian, Hagan, Nick, Joe, Eddie and his roommates Dave and Kevin G. We started out with Ultimate Outburst that Randy brought and just kept adding people to teams as they arrived. Ultimate was fun in that you played 3 different kinds of rounds: regular, "Reverseburt" and Challenge. Lost of fun. Then we split a bit with some people in the kitchen playing "Give me the brain" and the rest of us playing Taboo. We agreed to play to 25 and we ended up being tied at 25. And then it was my turn but no pressure ;-). I ended up getting 4, whoo! So then it was Eddie's turn and he had to get four to tie and five to win but no pressure. He only ended up getting two. Then we played Uno with a few Reverse wars between Ian and Eddie. Ian ended up kicking our butts. By that point it was 10:30 or so and the party started to break up. After Kevin, Ian, Randy and Rena took off, there was something about a bet to be paid off by Dave to Eddie involving drinking so I offered my 10 month old tequila. But apparently that didn't satisfy the bet completely so they were going to go over to their friend's house and get 151 and drink that. I went too. So Dave took his shot of 151 and me and Ricky, the friend, had some sweet and sour with the midori that I gave them. I didn't finish mine, it started to give me some heartburn. We watched some TV but then I started to crash so they took me home. Such a fun night!

Today
Well I'm very sleepy right now (hey my alarm just went off =P) because of the birds in the nest outside my window. But the plans for today are to work on (and, if a miracle occurs, finish) my senior project and Number Theory homework. Also to clean my side of the bathroom and vacuum my room. We'll see how much actually gets done.

Don't get me wrong, birds are my favorite animals. But when they build a nest right outside my window and then make an on and off racket from 7am-8am on a night where I didn't crawl into bed until 1:30am doesn't make me very happy. Especially when said racket at first sounded like rat squeakings. x_x

Let's start with roommates. Yesterday morning I wasn't quick enough to make the early bus so since Game Night will be here, I decided to start cleaning. Naturally I didn't have enough time to finish the main counter so I just left everything as it was. I guess I was sort of hoping that one of them might pick up where I left off. Nope. I asked if it was going to be okay to have Game Night here last night. I was kind of hoping Kathrine would do some of her dishes. Nope. In fact, the other side of the sink was full when I came home. I asked if she had had company for dinner because there were four plates in the sink. "No, I was cleaning out my room and needed to soak them." *palmforehead* She promised that she would do them tonight. Them being the plates I think. We'll see what greets me when I go down tomorrow. I plan on making the place presentable all day Saturday. Yes. All. Day. Because I suspect that's how long it will take.

Alright, moving on to my sleeping woes. My sleeping habits haven't gone back to normal. I still wake up between 3 and 4:30 (once even at 5) no matter what time I go to sleep. The only exception has been when I used the sleep aid and last night. Although last night I went to bed later than usual. And even as I write this my eyes are droopy. Have been for the past, oh 40 minutes or so. I've been talking with Bridget on AIM so that has kept me awake. It's really not the getting tired earlier than usual that's been bothering me, it's been the waking up in the middle of the night. That rarely happened before. And when it did, it was because I had to go to the bathroom. I checked both of my new medications and neither of them has any side effects dealing with sleep. Maybe it's some weird interaction with the other meds. *le sigh*

Hillel video scavenger hunt tomorrow. One of the few events I can actually attend of the few they have besides Shabbat. Hopefully that will be fun. The last one I did with them 2 years ago was fun but nearly as much fun as the one I did freshman year with Honors. Ah, the good old days of the Honors Club. Shame that it died, really. If I had the time and wasn't graduating I'd try to resurrect it but someone else has already failed miserably at that. Speaking of clubs, I could go into a Math Club rant but as I'm having trouble keeping my eyes open, it'll have to wait.

I just received an e-mail from this guy John asking if the Math Club is interested in selling his company's card, the Connections Card, as a fundraiser for our club. He said that he saw we were having car wash this past weekend and that we "were in need of a way to raise money" so he decided to e-mail me about this card.

To which I wanted to respond: "If you wanted to help us raise money you would have gotten your fucking car washed!"

*Ahem* Anyway, we had the first day of the book sale today and we made $146. Go us! The past two quarters we've made at least $300 so we're already half way there. Hopefully the rest of the week will be equally successful.

Friday, Yesterday and Today

I just hung up with a donation collector person for the police. That was weird.

Anyway, the past three days. Friday during school was pretty normal. Friday evening I went to the baseball game with Leigh, Steve and Ilsa. It was okay. Not the most fun I've had but it wasn't torture. We did get to make fun of Steve though for not bringing a jacket. At times, I was covering his hands and parts of his arm with mine or he used my scarf and beanie to do so. It was pretty cold out by the time the game ended. Cal Poly ended up winning 9-2. One of those runs CSUN scored was our pitcher's fault. Something about stopping in the middle of his pitch or something like that. It gave the batter a walk while the bases were loaded.

Yesterday was the Math Club's car wash. It wasn't nearly as hot and sunny as we would have liked but we did well. We made $266. That was thanks to some really nice people who gave us $10 and $20 (or in one case $40 but that was from a professor for his Hummer). Actually, I think only one person gave us our minimum of $3 and that was a member. Everyone else gave at least $5. The downside was that it started to get overcast and thus chilly around 3 or so. We ended up packing up around 4:30. So I came home and warmed up and had dinner. Then Nick calls and asks if I would be interested in playing Risk. I said yes. Nick, Joe, Andre, Beth and I started the game around 8:30 or so. We played the Godstorm version. Andre was eliminated by the end of the first epoch. I was eliminated in the fourth, Beth in the fifth. So it ended up being a battle between Nick and Joe with Joe almost certain to win. She had all of the territories except like 4. I'm not sure how it ended because I left around 12:30 when I started to fall asleep. Came home, changed the clocks and went to bed.

Today I slept in. Then I went and saw Sin City with Leigh and Steve. It was...interesting. A piece of art but a bit too graphic for my tastes. I dunno. Interesting is the only word I can really use to describe it. Picked up my pictures on the way home which I'll be uploading shortly. Talked with Kathryn and Julie for a bit then had dinner. I don't care what that Budget Gourmet box said, it was not lasagna. The Lean Gourmet lasagna...that's lasagna, but they didn't have it =(.

Time to upload pictures, straighten up the room and say I'm going to do my Number Theory except not.

Thankfully that pain killer with sleep aid helped me not wake up in the middle of the night. I still woke up three times before I wanted to but they were reasonable. The first was in response to my alarm I forgot to turn off. I quickly corrected that and changed one of them to 8. The second time was around 6:45 because my body was confused because it was a weekday. The third time was in response to the alarm on my watch telling me to leave for the bus. But no random waking up between 3 and 4:30 like I have been for the four nights previously. Depending on when I start to get ready for bed, I might take it again as I'm still sore as heck but a bit better.

On tap for today I have laundry and then senior project, senior project, senior project. Now that I have a grade for the course, I should probably finish earning it, yes?

Long Day

And my recent problems sleeping haven't been helping. Anyway, I started today off with my Plastics lab. Our instructor is an Industrial Technology grad student. The lab seems like it might be fun. We'll eventually be making picture frames, name tags and figurines. Thankfully, we didn't actually start this week so we got out about an hour and a half early.

During that time I went to work to just sit and write some thoughts down for the Math 202 presentation I was doing at 11 and do some Math Club stuff. During which I realized that we were charged for an extra sweatshirt by Left Coast. However, I don't quite want to draw their attention to it because they also miscalculated the price of our M*A*T*H shirts to be almost $2 cheaper per a shirt and I'm okay with that mistake. I mean if they discovered that error while fixing the other one, we'd have to pay them an additional $66. Since I had some time, I decided to go to the Epicenter and get our club's statement. At the moment we're sitting financially pretty. Until you factor in the fact that the club owes me $1330.5 officially and unofficially about $1410.5 ( I don't have receipts for the after softball pizza and don't remember how much they cost except for being about $40 something each). And then we factor in the cost of the jerseys which had not been subtracted yet, the amount of money we need to save to pay for the banquet and the money we need for Yosemite and we get debt. That's not even including the regular events. In other words, we need some major success at the car wash, book sale and Open House and need to sell every sweatshirt and every shirt we've ordered this year. We haven't even broken even on the MAthletics ones yet. *sigh*

Anyway, after grabbing a snack at the Avenue, I went to 202. Rebecca actually came prepared with a list of events with the prices of the shirts on their too. She also did almost all of the talking. I bet the class was wondering why the vice president was doing all the talking and the president said practically nothing except for an introduction. I hate doing that presentation. I've only done it twice (or rather stood by while Rebecca did it) but I hate. That finished by 11:30 so I went back to work to send out a car wash help e-mail before I started work.

Despite Bridget being on before me, I managed to stay busy the entire 4 hours I was there. That might be partly due to Ben being on for 2 of those hours, one of which we were alone. *shakes head and sighs* It's like putting a kid on a tricycle for 20 minutes and then on a regular bike without any supervision. But we just don't have the time and the people to train them more thouroughly (I know I spelt that wrong but I think the drug is starting to take effect). Anyway, I cut out of there early to get a good seat for econ...

...only to discover that the previous class got out early and there were already people in there for my class. I thought they were there for the previous class. I ended up sitting one over from where I was on Monday (which was an aisle) which the guy who was sitting there must have resented at first. I mean, wouldn't you resent some stranger for sitting next to you when there are empty seats in the lecture hall? I guess he got over it or really didn't care because he did introduce himself after a few minutes. I was also suprised to find another familiar face in the class. He happened to sit down next to me and then said "Hey Mandy." It took me a few seconds to place him. It was Carl from the dorms. Honestly I'm surprised he recognized me, or I him since I rarely saw him since he was on the third floor. He ended up taking off half way through the lecture though. I guess he decided it wasn't worth his time since the majority of the lecture notes were in the Greenbook. I stayed after to talk to the teacher about DRC stuff. He said he preferred to arrange a quite area with the extended time with me rather than go through the DRC. I said it was fine as long as I didn't have to take the test in that room (*shudder* I really don't like the silo).

Since I didn't have Analysis homework yet and didn't have the book for Number Theory (*grumble*) to start my homework there, I headed home. And of course by the time I got home, the person in the Rec center was missing so I couldn't get my Number Theory book tonight. Fortunately no school tomorrow so I can just pick it up normally then. I ended up going out again to get more Diet Pepsi for my mediciene, drop off film and also get a callous remover thingy to try tomorrow morning. I took a pain killer with sleep aid about half an hour to help me sleep and help with the overall extreme soreness from yesterday's workouts and it's starting to take effect so off I go.

8am-9:30am: Work
It was definitely nice to be beaten in (by Kim). I did get kicked out of my seat though (by Ronak who decided to work for an hour because I was threatening to kick him out). Also working during that time period were the two newest guys Ben and Surren. Those guys definitely did not have enough training. I found out from Bridget that they had about a day of training with her before answering phones themselves. Yes, apparently we are that short handed. But yeah, they're call handling skills could use some work. I was going to do the two new accounts with Kim but she was busy helping people or helping those guys help people. And since Bridget wasn't coming in later, I decided to grab Leigh at 9:30 and quickly do the two new accounts with him. The problem there was that for whatever, the push at 9:47 did go through fast enough for the impatient me and I couldn't do the OM accounts before I had to leave for class. Yeah, I stayed until 10. This is why I scheduled myself to 9:30....so I would actually leave by 10.

10:10am-11am: MATH 341-Number Theory
I know from people who took Dr. Mendes for Combinatorics last quarter that he's a very tough homework grader. And homework is worth a lot. 40% for our class. Each midterm is worth only 15% and the final 30%. Hopefully my textbook gets here soon so I can start on the homework. The class should be a bit interesting since I'm taking it out of order (along with a few other seniors). For example, after class today, Rebecca went up to Dr. Mendes and basically asked why couldn't we just use analysis to prove what he just proved. Silly girl, trying to use 400 level material in a 300 level class. As for Dr. Mendes himself, he seems like a nice guy but then again he's not much older than us (graduated grad school in 2004). But I do love his handwriting. He writes at a normal pace and neatly (do you have any idea how rare that is for a math professor?) which I find improves my own notes. And if you've tried to read my notes, you'd realize that that is a very good thing. Anyway, first homework assignment due next Tuesday. Final is Friday June 10 at 10am.

11am-1pm: Math Lounge
I have a class at the gym put in for 12:10-12:55 but had to skip due to working on Math Club stuff. I sent out e-mails for our meeting tomorrow, yosemite update, sweatshirt payments, shirt payments, made sign up sheets for the car wash Saturday and the book sale next week. It doesn't seem like that should take 3 hours but somehow it did.

1:10pm-2pm: MATH 414: Real Analysis III
Well only three main differences from last quarter. 1) Dave either missed the first day or decided to drop the track. Hopefully I'll see him soon to see how he's doing. 2) The time of the class is an hour later than last quarter but the same as Fall. 3) The room is back in the math building rather than the spider building. Homework hasn't been assigned yet. Final is Friday June 10 at 1:10pm

2pm-4pm: Running around
Hopefully, I will normally be in the library for this time but today I had to run around to see about my graduation. I went to the Stat department first to see if I could talk to someone about picking up the minor. I managed to catch one guy in his office but need to go back Wednesday at 3 to actually talk to him about it. Then I went up to the Math department to have Dr. Morrison sign my petition to subsitute a D5 GE for a D2 GE in London. Then I went to the Evaluations office to see if I could get my evaluation earlier to make sure I was on track. My evaluator basically said he won't be getting to Fall people for a couple more weeks, to talk to Cindy in COSAM Advising and that he would route my petition off to the right people. So then I went to the COSAM Advising center to see if I could make an appointment for tomorrow. Unfortunately, this week is walk-in only. (Never thought I'd say that). Fortunately, the lady at the front desk was able to give me the most current version of my unofficial evaluation and said from what she can see, I was just missing a few GE's and the elective in my major. I said I hoped Math 304 would count for that since it wasn't going to be a track. She said I should talk to my department advisor. So I went back to the department and was pointed to Dr. Greenwald who explained that basically I need 28 units in the advanced course work area and that I had 24 units from the 3 tracks and just needed the extra units from another track, elective in major or elective in support. So I actually have 32 units in advanced course work but recommended that I talk to Cindy to be absolutely sure. I decided to put that off until tomorrow. I went over to the bookstore to get the "Greenbook" for my Econ class but they didn't have it. Since I had class from 4 to 6 I decided to get some food and went to Backstage. I got to bug Rebecca while she worked, that was fun ;-). I also called my mom back about trying to get some program to work on her virtual PC that she thinks I someone broke. All I did was run Norton's on her comptuer, didn't fix any of the 20+ problems because we couldn't boot from the disk. I didn't touch the program or virtual PC. Whatever.

4:10pm-6pm: ECON 201-Survey of Economics
The good news is that of the 230 people in the class, I do know one. Nick is there with me which we actually found out during Analysis. I did get a good seat though but I still hate the desks in the silo. My spiral notebook barely fits on there. Anyway, big lecture hall of 230 elbow to elbow. Ugh, I hate that enviornment. The only good thing about it is 3 multiple guess midterms of 38 questions each and a multiple guess final of 50 questions. Although the lack of questions for a 2 hour class kind of scares me. Homework is to start reading chapter 1 and get the textbook and the Greenbook. Final is Friday June 10 at 4pm.


Notice a pattern with the finals yet? That's right, 3 of my 4 classes have their finals on Friday (10am, 1pm, 4pm). If I wasn't a DRC student those would non-stop. I was saying when I got out of econ saying that if my last class had it's final Friday at 7am I would laugh/scream. Anyway, after class I came home and checked the scedule just so I wouldn't embarass myself tomorrow if it came true. Fortunately a 4-5:30 class is considered evening (and 4-6 isn't, go figure) so the final is 7pm on Thursday. So eventually I'll have to move one away from Friday and move the IT one up. Eh, I'll concern myself with the details that later. I'm just glad my birthday isn't during finals week like it was the first two years.

Thanks to having Thursday off, there's a Math Club meeting tomorrow which makes it very busy since I really really want to go to this class at the gym. Although it is right before my IT class so we'll have to see how that works. In general, Tuesdays and Thursdays will not be fun.

*sigh* I hate Spring quarter.

Easter

I was invited by Bridget to join her family for an Easter lunch today. It was a lot of fun. I picked up Myca and then went to Los Osos. We had a very nice lunch of spagetti, salad, chicken, lamb, potatoes, and some other stuff I can't remember. Then there was some cleaning up and watching Linda Fe (Bridget and Gianna's little sister, 10 years old) do her dance routines. Then there was an easter egg hunt. Wow was Linda Fe fast at finding those! My personal favorite of the little prizes in the eggs were these fuzzy soft socks from Costco. Then we had our dessert of a chocolate and jam cake and a bunny white cake. The bunny cake was so cute! Bridget, Joann (Bridget and Gianna's mom) and Linda Fe made it and decorated it so cutely by giving it a bow and even made it look furry by putting coconut around the edges. It was a delisious cake. Afterwards, Bridget, Gianna, Linda Fe, Myca and I just hung. Myca cut Bridget's hair with layers and trimmed mine. All during which we played Outburst Jr. We also played Twister before that. Then suddenly it was 6:30 (got there around 1:15) and I decided it was time to head out. After dropping Myca off, I went to South House since I was just down the block. When I came in, Leigh, Matt, Steve and Shane were playing a four person shooter game. We talked for a bit but then Matt and I went to my car to get the crockpot he'll give Meghan next weekend and when we returned, the game was back on. I played for a short while and then just watched them play for awhile and then came home after stopping at the market and getting necessities.

In other news, Bridget said that Jim shares similiar feelings about Annie. Although not to the point of firing her like I do but apparently not happy with her arrival time and work (or lack thereof) she's been doing. And my feet still hurt. Fortunately, I decided against the heels for today and went for just raised shoes. However the balls of my feet are still pretty torn up; lots of dead skin. More so on my right foot. I think I need to get one of those coarse rub things. Buffers are they? Well whatever it is, think I'll be getting me one of those. The good news is that I did find these two pad thingys my mom gave me to place in the heels to help with the pressure. And I did buy those KushyFoot knee highs so hopefully all of this will help.

The e-mail server goes down from 6am today until noon for regular maintanence. Usually though it's back up by 10. It's still not up so I go to http://systemstatus.calpoly.edu to see what's up except that page won't load. No error messages just keeps attempting to load but nothing happens. For some reason I find this very amusing.
