Table Updated: January 21, 2004

Scripture I read:

Matthew 20, Genesis 39-40.

What the Lord has recently taught me:

How obedience to God is the true demonstration of faith.

Breakfast:

Nothing.

Lunch:

Chicken, rice and veggies.

Dinner:

Baked potatoes with chili and cheese.

Weight and Exercise:

227 Lbs. (Ran 4 miles on the Treadmill and lower body weights.)

The thing I laughed about the most:

I have to share about the “Mystery” poster I found taped to my garage this morning in honor of my 40th Birthday. It read, “How many 40 year olds does it take to turn on a light bulb? None, those days are over!”

January 21, 2004

Forty years ago today, a beautiful 18-year-old woman gave birth to a 10 lbs ½ oz. bouncing baby boy. She and her husband named this chubby little guy “Timothy Irvin Scarbrough”. Yep, today is my birthday. I’ve reached that significant milestone of 40. As I sit here this morning sipping on my strong cup of coffee, many thoughts are swirling through my mind concerning the few things I’ve accomplished and the many things I’ve failed to accomplish. However, being the eternal optimist that I am, I definitely believe that my best years are ahead of me. There is so much to do, especially for the Lord.

In the past couple months I read a book written by Rick Warren called Purpose Driven Life. It came highly recommended by my dad and after reading it, I’m recommending it to everyone and anyone who might truly be interested in fulfilling God’s purpose and plan for their lives. God does have a specific plan for each of us. It doesn’t matter if we’re 20 years old or 80 years old, we can begin stepping into that purpose by simply choosing to do so.

The other night I was having a nice talk with my wife, Brenda, about my true passion in life. There are lots of things I enjoy doing, but if I really had my choice, I would spend most of my time preaching and teaching the Word of God. For some reason God has really placed that desire in me. However, it’s been a few years since I’ve done that. Why? Because of me. I’ve simply failed to stay in the place God has called me. I’ve allowed my flesh to win the battle over the spirit too many times. In the past year though, things have changed significantly. Thanks to Pastor Phillips at New Life Center in Redding, I’ve been given an opportunity to disciple and equip leaders in our church. I’ve been more excited than I’ve been in a long time about ministry and how God might use me in the future. I know what I am called to do and I plan to do it one day at a time.

I thought today I would share some of my favorite Bible verses. See if you notice the connection between them.

Jeremiah 29
11For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Philippians 3
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4
13I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Praise the Lord that He not only gives us a future and a hope, but supplies the strength and focus to fulfill His purpose for us.

Stay Blessed!

Stay Blessed!
