WHAT IS A BONNY PORTMORE?
Bonny Portmore is a public domain traditional Celtic folk song,
which details the centuries of Ireland's old oak forests being leveled
for military and shipbuilding purposes. Specifically The Great Oak of Portmore.
Bonny Portmore; EB3 80, D 3/4 mix 111 554: [This would appear to be the tune of "The Highland Mans farewell to Portmore," whose first verse "My heart's in the highlands," so captivated Sir Walter Scot. 2 of 12 verses are in SMM #259 to a somewhat similar Scots tune. Full song in NLS MS 6299, f.82, c 1745, and a later reworking is given from a stall copy in Additional Illustrations to the Scots Musical Museum.]
