Computers are my hobby or curse... I haven't figured that one out yet.
I used to build my own systems, but since technology increases faster than I can keep pace with, I thought about buying (COTS) Commercial Off The Shelf Systems, but what fun would that be? My first encounter with a computer was in 1986, It was a i8088 with 640k Ram and a hard drive running CPM. Then I bought my first system from a company named "SDG" what a mistake, so when I needed to upgrade I built it myself. I found that todays expert can quickly become tomorrows has been, if you don't keep abreast of current technology and the constant changes.
Some of my Computer Related Interests are:
LINUX: This is an Operating system, It is NOT made by Bill Gates, There are many different vendors and Kernals out there. I prefer Redhat Linux, because I get a better price on the CD's that is actually the only reason. They all have good points and bad. Wordperfect just ported its Office Suite to Linux so watch out Win 95.
GRAPHICS: I once thought I was skilled at making computer graphics, then I found out I didn't know anything, and opened my mind to actualy learn.
HARDWARE: Unfortunately most people are scared of Computers, And they take them to Local Shops that Rip them off.. I like to fix them for free. I don't think someone should buy a computer for $2800 and then spend $1600 fixing a minor problem 1 year later.
WEBPAGES: Well these webpages are my effort at web design. I made them so that ALL platforms can veiw them. I don't do the Flash, CGI, Java Mouse overs and image maps for my pages since I don't want to and really want to wait untill I have a dedicated server and domain name. HTML is actualy quite easy, If you ever used the Old DOS program named "WORDSTAR" you can do HTML easy. There are many programs that have a WYSIWYG interface like MS Frontpage out there. My personal favorite is MS Notepad. If you build a page with a 19' Monitor it won't look the same on someones 14" monitor, keep that in mind. Check out my Web Design Page
