Puppet Songs

Puppet songs are an easy way to do a puppet show. Once you gather a few props, and practice a few times, that's all there is to it. Get a song on a tape that has a good message, and listen to it. We usally use kids tapes, because most of our puppets are kids. Type out the words, so the puppeteers can see what their puppets should be saying. Photocopy enough copies for each puppeteer. Decide how many singing puppets you will need, and any other characters that are necessary. Decide how the puppets will enter and exit. Gather or make what props you want to include. Practice a few times. Add some special effects by turning out the house lights, and using an overhead projector as a spotlight. Trace a small circle on a piece of paper, and cut it out. Put it on the overhead! Instant spotlight! You can even make your spotlight different colours by putting a coloured piece of transparency on it. (Office supply stores sell clear page protectors in different colours. These work well.) Then, all you need is an audience!

Take a look at some of the suggestions below. More will be added to the list soon.

Here are some ideas for songs to try and what tapes we found them on.
