Bios: Newsboys
The Newsboys, who began their careers playing for beer, money, and female attention, came to know the Lord en masse.   They began intergrating their music with their growing desire to serve Jesus. The group found gigs, playing for youth groups, retreats, and ladies' nights, until members of the Christian rock band, White Heart, heard the Newsboys and invitied them to open for their Brisbane show.   A month later an American label signed them.Their first album was released in 1988. Fivealbums later, the release of Take Me To Your Leader ushered in a new creative chapter for the band and highlights how far the group has already progressed. With only two of the original members, the current makeup of the band is a hybrid of Aussie and American talent. The band's tour bus antics have become legendary -tag team wrestling at 5 a.m., paint ball battles in concert hall parking lots, and rampant practical joking.   All joking aside, the Newsboys consider one another best friends.   Except for wives and children, the band keeps their primary associations with each other.   The Newsboys want their music to minister to the church, not only to invite new believers to come to Christ, but also to hold up those who already know the Lord and need encouragement to share their faith and grow in their commitment to Jesus.   Do fans react to this kind of encouragement ?   Absolutely.   The Newsboys pack stadiums world wide.    As the Newsboys popularity grows, so does the scope and intensity of their live show.    So, what do the Newsboys hope fans will remember most about their live show ? "Jesus didn't come to earth to be a rock star,"says member Peter Furler. "He came to serve.   When we go out to do a concert we're there to serve the promoters and the youth pastors and the people.   Some bands are copying so much of what is happening out in the world.   We're not going to do that.    The world dosen't make our guidelines. Our guideline is the Word of God"

John James:

This guy was one of the original Newsboys, he Just left in 1997  to be a full time evangelist after the TMTYL Tour, and has been in every album before the Maxi single: "Entertaining Angels". He was an Awesome singer and a very funny guy too, If you have ever seen any of the Newsboys' videos you know what I mean. John James is now writing children's books and his wife is the illustrator.

Peter Furler:

I got to meet Peter at YC'98. He is a really cool guy and is awesome in concert. He wears a cowboy hat on stage though, and it looks ok I guess, but it makes him look like a country singer, but thankfully, he's not. He is a Christian rock Singer/Drummer and he's great at it.

Phil Joel Urry:

Phil has a really cool accent, and he's an awesome Base player, he's the singer of "Entertaining Angels" (I always thought it was Peter) He used to be a Guitar Player, but he switched to the base just so he could play with the Newsboys, Cool huh?

Jeff Frankenstein:

This guy has a unique story altogether, He was, (for like a year or something) one of the setup people for the Newsboys and the guy who got them water nd stuff after a concert. He and Peter talked a lot about stuff, and he went away for a while, then ne saw Peter again somewhere and told Peter he was a Keyboard Player, Peter seemed interested, and Jeff thought he was just being nice. But a while later Peter called him up and said "hey We need a Keyboard player, Why don't you come over her and shows us what you can do?" (or something like that) He had a scholarship but he gave it up to join the Newsboys. And well, now he's part of the band!

Duncan Phillips:

This guy is really nice, He's always Taking time to talk to the little people, and that's pretty much all I know about him. And that he was really funny in the movie the Newsboys Made. He was about to give up his music career and go back to Australia to be a brick layer. The NEWSBOYS hired him when he was in Calif.and he's been with them ever since.

Jody Davis:

This guy is really quiet, He smirks a lot. And plays really well. He's very spontaneous though, When I saw him at YC, he was like jumping around and running and lots of cool stuff. His wife is a ballerina.

Kevin Mills:

I don't really know much about this guy, He was only in Going public, And he likes to play the harmonica a LOT.

Sean Taylor:

I know next to nothing about this guy, he was there from the beginning and left after Not Ashamed. I wonder if he's related to Steve Taylor (The co-producer, who has made a few CD's himself). That would be cool.

Cory(Rat boy)Pryor:

The guy with the weird nickname, He joined in Boys will be Boys, and left after Not Ashamed,Cory Pryor is now married and him and wife started in band SOZO.

Vernon Bishop:

This guy Was only in one album and that was Boys Will Be boys.

Jonathan Geange:

This guy was only in Hell is For Wimps. All I know besides that, is that he had WWWAAAAAYYY too much hair!!

Phil Yates:

This guy was only in Read All About it. Other than that all I know is what you see.
