Louis Bellson CDs with Maynard Ferguson
LOUIS BELLSON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, SKIN DEEP -- Verve 314 559 825-2
Back on 8/14/53, at Radio Recorders in Hollywood, Maynard laid down four tracks with the Louie Bellson Orchestra: Skin Deep, For Europeans Only, Phalanges, and Caxton Hall Swing. These tracks were released on EPs, a 10" LP, and the 12" LP Skin Deep. In 1999, Verve re-issued the Skin Deep LP in this CD format, with a quadruple gatefold cover, liner notes, and a new remastering job! Fabulous. They were issued as a limited edition, and they're now long out of print. MF really wails!

Then, in 2001, the Italian label Folio released this version of the CD, and it's MUCH rarer than the U.S. version, especially here in the U.S. It's fabulous. VARIOUS ARTISTS, GREAT JAZZ BANDS -- Polygram 314-520263-2
Back on 8/14/53, Maynard recorded several tracks with the Louie Bellson Orchestra. One of those tracks was Caxton Hall Swing. In 1993, Polygram issued this jazz compilation CD, and the track Caxton Hall swing was included. It's long out-of-print. Interestingly, they misspelled the track as "Claxton" Hall Swing. Other artists on the CD include Buddy Rich, Harry James, Gerry Mulligan, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Louis Armstrong, and Roy Eldridge. I've listened to this CD a number of times, and besides the track with MF, it's a swingin' CD!
