Stan Kenton 45s with Maynard Ferguson

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, INNOVATIONS IN MODERN MUSIC, VOLUME ONE -- Capitol KDM 189

Here’s MF with the Stan Kenton Orchestra on the album Innovations in Modern Music, Volume One. This is Maynard's VERY FIRST recording with Kenton, from 2/3 and 2/4/50 -- just a month after he joined the orchestra. The tracks are Trajectories, Theme for Sunday, Conflict, Indicent in Jazz, Lonesome Road, Mirage, Solitaire, and Cuban Episode. This album was issued in both LP and EP format, and this is an original EP boxed set of 4 discs. In NMINT conddition, this set should sell for somewhere in the neighborhood of $75.00.
COPY #1. The box is original, with a green cover and the words "Stan Kenton" in large gold print, except it had gold foil around the edges of the cover when new, and it's been removed on this copy, leaving a very attractive box, just the same. There's just the slighest brown toning in places on the edges of the box, which isn't bad for a 1950 EP box. Overall, the box is in EX condition. The discs are very nice, in EX+ condition. In this nice, but less than perfect EX to EX+ condition, it's a steal at $8.00. Grab it while you can!
COPY #2. The cover on this one is very nice, with the only problem being a 3" seam split on one edge of the box. Still, it's a nice, original box, in EX+ condition. The vinyl on the four discs varies from EX+ to NMINT. Let's be conservative and call this set EX+. Priced very reasonably at $11.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, KENTON PRESENTS -- Capitol KCF 248

Maybe you've seen or heard about the Kenton Presents LP, which was issued in 10" format in 1950, and lists for $50.00 in NMINT condition. Maynard plays on the tracks "Art Pepper" and "Halls of Brass" (recorded 5/18/50) and on the tracks "Maynard Ferguson" and "Shelley Manne" (recorded 6/5/50). The track "Maynard Ferguson" is a showpiece for our man Maynard, and he absolutely WAILS through the whole thing. Well, this album also came out in EP format, first in a 7" box, and a couple of years later in a triple gatefold 7" EP format. The individual discs can be found lying about in record stores, but to get one with an original box or gatefold cover is very hard to do.
COPY #1. This one is a triple gatefold cover variety. The cover shows some definite surface wear, and there are some disturbed places on the back cover, probably where some sort of sticker was removed. Each of the three top spines are cracked at the right edge, but the bottom spines are all intact. It's a pretty nice looking cover, and rates somewhere in the VG+ to EX- range. The vinyl averages EX+ over the three discs. Overall, I think this one conservatively rates an EX-. Due to its rarity in this picture cover, and based on the price for the 10" LP, this copy is $8.00.
COPY #2. This one is the older box cover variety. The cover looks pretty nice, but half of the top flap is missing on the front box cover. The box also got compressed a bit at some time or another from other things being piled on top of it. This has caused it to have a couple of cracks that are visible from the inside. Don't get me wrong -- it's a pretty nice looking cover, but there are flaws. Just VG-. The vinyl varies from VG to EX. On the track Maynard Ferguson, it's EX. So, a flawed but still pretty nice copy, rating somewhere in the VG to VG+ range, overall. Due to the box damage, I'm pricing this one at a very reasonable $5.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, EASY GO / BUT THEN YOU KISSED ME -- Capitol F1191

Here’s MF with the Stan Kenton Orchestra on the tracks Easy Go and But Then You Kissed Me, both of which were recorded on 8/21/50.
COPY #1. An average copy. VG+. $3.00.
COPY #2. An average copy. VG. $2.00.
COPY #3. Slightly more noisy than a VG copy – VG-. $1.00.
COPY #4. This one has super clean labels and nice, EX to EX+ vinyl. $5.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, BE EASY, BE TENDER / LOVE FOR SALE -- Capitol F1236

Here’s MF with the Stan Kenton Orchestra on the tracks Be Easy, Be Tender (recorded 8/21/50) and Love for Sale (recorded 9/12/50).
COPY #1. This one has quite a few fine surface scratches, which cause some background noise when played. There's one spot of discoloration on the label where a sticker was removed, leaving two tiny white spots, as well. Overall, it's VG to VG+. $3.00.
COPY #2. This is a pretty nice copy, with great labels and very nice vinyl. EX to EX+. $5.00.
COPY #3. This one has a small tear on the label next to the inside of the ring on one side. The vinyl is quite nice. Overall, it's an EX- copy. $4.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, VIVA PRADO / I'M SO IN THE MOOD -- Capitol F1279

Here’s MF with the Stan Kenton Orchestra on the tracks Viva Prado and I'm So in the Mood, both of which were recorded on 9/12/50.
COPY #1. A pretty nice copy, EX-. $4.00.
COPY #2. A pretty nice copy, EX-. $4.00.
COPY #3. The labels on this one are clean and nice, with just a bit of wear around the spindle hole. The disc itself is EX. $5.00.
COPY #4. The labels on this copy are super clean and nice. The disc is EX. $5.50.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, CLASSICS IN JAZZ, TRUMPET STYLISTS -- Capitol EBF 326

On 9/13/50, MF laid down the track Take the "A" Train with the Kenton Orchestra. He absolutely WAILS on this track. In 1952, Capitol released this wonderful 7” picture cover gatefold EP featuring this track. Also included are 7 other tunes by Billy Butterfield, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Carter, Red Nichols, Bobby Sherwood, and Cootie Williams. Overall, this is one of the greatest jazz EP sets of the 1950s. The 10" LP version of this album lists for $50.00 in NMINT condition, and I've seen nice EP copies sell in that range, as well.
COPY #1. The gatefold cover on this one shows some of the ring wear that's typical on this release. Both parts of the two-part cover have seam cracks at top center, and there's a track timing and some reddish ink visible on the back. All these little flaws make an otherwise nice looking cover come in at maybe a VG+ rating. The vinyl is EX to EX+. Overall, let's call this one EX- to EX. It's a solid, if somewhat flawed copy. It's just $7.00.
COPY #2. The gatefold cover on this one show definite record ring wear, front and back. There's also a dime-sized tear on the front from sticker removal, writing on the back, split seams at bottom, cracked seams at top, and minor water damage at bottom. The cover is GOOD-. The discs have some light scuffs and scratches, but they're not too bad. The labels are clean and nice. The track with Maynard, "Take the 'A' Train," is in very nice shape. I'd rate these discs as EX- to EX. Overall, this copy is maybe GOOD+ to VG-. Just $3.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, SANTA LUCIA / PAGLIACCI – Capitol 6F-1306

On 9/14/50, MF recorded the tracks Santa Lucia and Pagliacci with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. These are tenor sax solo pieces, featuring Vido Musso. MF doesn’t really come through all that much. So this is for the true MF die-hard collectors only. (In fact, after looking over the discographies of many of the major MF collectors, I’ve never seen this 45 in one of their collections. If you want something hard-to-find, this is it!)
COPY #1. The labels on this one are super clean and nice. The disc is EX to EX+. It's yours for $8.00.
COPY #2. The labels on this one are relatively clean and nice, with the only problem being one very slightly darkened spot where a sticker was removed. Still, this is minimal. The disc itself is EX+. A very clean and nice copy, this one is $8.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, SEPTEMBER SONG / ARTISTRY IN TANGO -- Capitol F1480

Here’s MF from 3/20/51 (Capitol Recording Session No. 2106) on September Song and Artistry in Tango. September Song was one of the most popular tunes ever recorded by the Kenton Orchestra, so this 45 is definitely not rare. But it's also one of the most listenable titles.
COPY #1. Condition is VG -- an average copy. $3.00.
COPY #2. Condition is VG -- an average copy. $3.00.
COPY #3. Condition is VG -- an average copy. $3.00.
COPY #4. Condition is VG -- an average copy. $3.00.
COPY #5. The labels on this one are very nice, but there are a lot of fine surface scratches on the vinyl, which will cause some background noise when played back. It's VG+. $3.50.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, DYNAFLOW / TORTILLAS AND BEANS -- Capitol F1535

Here’s MF from 3/28/51 on the tracks Dynaflow and Tortillas and Beans. This is one of the hard Kenton 45s to find for some reason. There must not have been many pressed.
COPY #1. The labels on this copy are pristine. There are a few light scratches on the vinyl. Overall, it's a VG+ to EX- copy. $4.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, OPUS IN PASTELS / LOVE FOR SALE -- Capitol F1625

Here’s MF from 9/12/50 on the track Love for Sale. (He doesn't appear on Opus in Pastels.) This was just 9 months into his career with Stan Kenton, so it's a very early appearance.
COPY #1. Condition on this one is EX-. $4.00.
COPY #2. The labels on this copy are undamaged, but there's a hint of wear visible on them. The disc itself is VG -- just average. Yours for just $2.50.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, SEPTEMBER SONG / LAURA -- Capitol F1680

MF plays with Stan Kenton's Orchestra on September Song, recorded 3/20/51 (Capitol Recording Session No. 2106) and Laura, recorded 5/28/51 (Capitol Recording Session No. 2176).
COPY #1. Condition is VG+. $4.00.
COPY #2. Condition would be VG+ to EX-, but due to a tear on the label on the "Laura" side, this one is just VG-. Only $2.00.
COPY #3. Condition on this copy is EX+, with a like-new label and nice, shiny vinyl. $5.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, STAN KENTON -- Capitol MA1-1592

Here's Stan Kenton on a rare little 45 picture cover EP from the mid to late 1950s. I seldom see a copy of this EP. It contains four tracks: Laura, Artistry in Rhythm, September Song, and Artistry Jumps. MF plays on September Song, recorded 3/20/51 (Capitol Recording Session No. 2106), Laura, recorded 5/28/51 (Capitol Recording Session No. 2176), and Artistry Jumps (2/11/56).
COPY #1. When I got this one, it was still in the original shrink wrap. The shrink wrap had contracted over time, buckling the cover pretty badly. Otherwise, the cover is pristine, but due to the buckling, I'm going to reduce it to just average -- VG. The vinyl is NMINT- to NMINT. Overall, the condition is EX-, due to the cover problem. Thus, this otherwise rare little EP is just $3.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, LAURA / JUMP FOR JOE -- Capitol F1704

MF plays with Stan Kenton's Orchestra on Laura, recorded 5/28/51 and Jump for Joe, recorded 5/31/51.
COPY #1. The labels on this one are super clean and nice. The vinyl itself is VG+ to EX- with a few scuff and surface scratches that don't affect play. It's $4.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, POPULAR FAVORITES BY STAN KENTON -- Capitol EAP 1-421

This is a really nice picture cover EP, with Kenton standing, arms folded, cigarette in hand, looking very suave. (Man, these covers sure aren't "politically correct" by today's standards!) It contains four tracks. MF plays on September Song, recorded 3/20/51 (Capitol Recording Session No. 2106) and Laura, recorded 5/28/51 (Capitol Recording Session No. 2176). Also included are the tracks Stardust and Delicado.
COPY #1. The cover on this copy is nice, with just a little bit of surface wear and a couple of small nicks on the spine. It's well above average, at least EX. The vinyl is OK, probably EX-, but there is a small spot on the label on side 1 where a sticker was obviously removed, and left a disturbance. Still, a nice, collectible copy. At least EX-, overall. $4.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this copy is very, very nice, with just a bit of a wrinkle in the upper left corner. It's NMINT-. The vinyl is EX+. Overall, this copy is EX++. $7.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this copy is very nice, with just a few minor signs of age in places. It's still NMINT-. The vinyl is very nice, NMINT-, as well. Overall, this one is NMINT-. $8.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one is super clean and nice, with the only problem being a 1" spine crack at bottom center. Still, it's an EX++ cover. The vinyl is EX++, as well. I listened to it, and it sounds great for an EP of this era. Overall, this copy is EX++. $7.00.
COPY #5. The cover on this one has a 1" seam crack at bottom center. Otherwise, it's a pristine cover, and it still rates a NMINT-. The vinyl is very nice -- EX+. Overall, this copy is EX++. $7.00.
COPY #6. The cover on this one is super clean and nice with totally intact seams and spine. The only problem I see is a tiny, rectangular discoloration on the back where a price sticker once resided. Still, this is a NMINT- to NMINT cover. The vinyl is EX++. A super copy, it's NMINT- overall. Yours for $8.00.
COPY #7. The cover on this one shows some record ring wear, front and back. There's a 5" seam split at upper right (which I can repair for you if your like) and the bottom seam has two pieces of crudely applied transparent tape on them. It's yellowed a bit over time. I'd rate this cover as just VG -- average, at best. The vinyl is not bad -- EX to EX+. Overall, this copy is EX-. It's $4.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, NIGHT WATCH / FRANCESCA -- Capitol F1774

MF plays with Stan Kenton’s Orchestra on Night Watch and Francesca, both recorded 6/28/51.
COPY #1. Condition is VG-, with some surface noise throughout. Still a nice addition to any collection. $3.00.
COPY #2. The labels on this one are really clean and nice, with no damage whatsoever. The optional 45 center hole has never even been removed from this copy. The disc itself is EX++. A super copy, it's $6.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, STREET OF DREAMS / DADDY -- Capitol F1823

MF plays with Stan Kenton’s Orchestra on two tracks, both recorded 9/20/51.
COPY #1. This is the first copy of this relatively rare little 45 I've ever had for sale on the website. The labels on this copy are super clean and nice. The vinyl, however, has a number of light scratches that definitely translate to some background noise on playback. It's VG-, at best. Bargain priced at just $2.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, SKETCHES ON STANDARDS, PART 1 -- Capitol EAP 1-426

Here's a picture cover EP which includes Spohisticated Lady, There's A Small Hotel, Begin the Beguine, and Shadow Waltz, all with MF. Really an attractive EP.
COPY #1. THIS COPY WILL BE SOLD ONLY AS A MATCHED PAIR WITH COPY #1 OF THE PART 2 EP BELOW. The cover on this copy is one of the earliest copies, with a notch on the opening slit for easy record removal. Except for a 1" seam crack at bottom center, it's nearly perfect -- NMINT-. The vinyl is pretty scratched up on one side, and has quite a bit of the typical background noise you hear on these '50s EPs, but plays without skips. It's just VG-. Overall, this copy is EX-. FOR THE PAIR OF EPs, just $9.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one has some water damage that shows a bit on the front and a bit more on the back. It's too bad, because otherwise, it's a very nice cover. I think it deserves an average rating -- VG. The vinyl is VG, as well. Overall, just an average copy. $3.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, SKETCHES ON STANDARDS, PART 2 -- Capitol EAP 2-426

Here's a picture cover EP which includes Lover Man, Over the Rainbow, Pennies from Heaven, and Fascinating Rhythm, all with MF. Really an attractive EP.
COPY #1. THIS COPY WILL BE SOLD ONLY AS A MATCHED PAIR WITH COPY #1 OF THE PART 1 EP ABOVE. The cover on this copy is one of the earliest copies, with a notch on the opening slit for easy record removal. Except for a 1" spine crack at bottom center, it's nearly perfect -- NMINT-. The vinyl is NMINT-, as well. A super little EP, in NMINT- condition. FOR THE PAIR OF EPs, just $9.00.
COPY #2. The picture cover on this copy looks great, but on closer examination, it has sustained some water damage which has partially delaminated the cover. (It could probably be glued back together without much trouble.) It does have a 3" spine split at upper right, and a tiny spine crack at bottom center. A few water marks can be seen on the back cover. So, even though it's still a pretty attractive cover, with these problems, it's just VG. The vinyl is EX. I'm going to call it VG+ overall. Just $2.00.
COPY #3. The picture cover on this copy looks super. The only problems are a 3/4" seam split at bottom center (very small) and the faintest hint of surface wear on the front and back covers. Still, it's a clean, nice cover -- EX to EX+ condition. The vinyl is likewise very nice -- EX or better. This one is EX to EX+ overall, $6.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one is striking -- NMINT, except for the original owner's name written both on front and back. This reduces a superb cover to just EX-. The vinyl is EX+. Overall, this copy is EX. $5.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, BLUES IN BURLESQUE PART 1 / PART 2 -- Capitol F1874

MF plays with Stan Kenton’s Orchestra on Blues in Burlesque. Part 1 is on side 1, and part 2 is on side 2. It was recorded 9/20/51.
COPY #1. The labels on this copy are very nice, although there's a tiny wrinkle in the paper on one side. (It came that way from the factory.) The vinyl rates an EX+. Overall, a nice, solid copy. $5.00.
COPY #2. The side 1 label on this one has three small initials written next to the spindle hole, and a small rectangular discoloration where a price sticker was removed. The side 2 label is clean and nice. The disc itself is EX. A very decent copy, it's $3.00.

STAN KENTON, PROLOGUE - "THIS IS AN ORCHESTRA" -- Capitol EASF-386

Stan Kenton's Orchestra recorded Prologue - "This is an Orchestra" on 9/8/52. The tune was written specifically for that incarnation of the Innovations Orchestra, and has Stan talking in-between solo passages by the orchestra members. Of course, when he comes to Maynard, HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT!!!! Maynard blows the roof off!!!! This is a picture cover, 45 RPM extended play record, with half the track on the front of the record, and half on the back. The picture covers on these are made of paper, and are black, so 90% of them have bad ring wear or other damage. A NMINT copy, with no ring wear and an intact spine, will sell for about $100.00. The front cover has Stan sitting on a folding chair, directing the band, and the back cover has small close-up photos of the band members -- 18 in all. Of course, Maynard's there, blowing away.
COPY #1. The cover on this one definitely shows the typical ring wear -- pretty heavy on the front, but very light on the rear. Unlike most copies, on which the paper seams are badly split, this one is still totally intact. The cover rates an EX- due to the ring wear, but otherwise is quite nice. The vinyl plays very well, with just the faintest background noise audible. It's EX+. Overall, this copy is EX. Easily worth the asking price -- $9.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one shows only very light record ring wear! It's one of the nicest copies I've seen. Other than the light ring wear, the only problem is a 1" seam crack at bottom center. Still, given the rarity of this cover and the good condition, I feel it rates an EX+. The vinyl is EX+, as well. So, overall, it's EX+. $10.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this copy has only very light record ring wear -- one of the nicest copies I've seen. There are a couple of small wrinkles along the top edge, but otherwise, this is a super cover. It still rates a NMINT-. The vinyl is EX+. Overall, this is a super copy, in EX++ condition. $12.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one has just the very slightest record ring wear. There also a less than 1" seam crack at bottom center. Still, it's better than the vast majority of copies I've seen. It's NMINT-. The vinyl is NMINT-. Overall, this copy is a clean and nice NMINT-. In this super condition, it's going to be one of the best I ever have for sale. $13.00.
COPY #5. The cover on this one has the average amount of record ring wear, and a few small creases in the thin cover paper, and a tiny scrape at bottom right. Let's rate the cover on the borderline between VG+ and EX- -- perhaps VG++. The vinyl is clean and nice with just a few light surface scratches. It's EX. Overall, this copy is EX-. $6.00.
COPY #6. The cover on this copy has quite a bit of the typical record ring wear. These open at the top, and the right seam is split 5". The bottom seam has a 2" crack at center. On the back, there's the rubber-stamped name of the original owner. So, there are definitely some issues with this cover. It's just VG-. The vinyl is EX, with clean and nice labels. Overall, this one is in the VG+ range. Just $5.00.
COPY #7. The cover on this one is one of the nicest I've seen. There is only minimal record ring wear, which is pretty unheard-of on this cover. It's NMINT- to NMINT. The labels are clean and nice, and the vinyl is a solid EX. Overall, this one is EX++. It's really, really nice. Yours for $12.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, NEW CONCEPTS OF ARTISTRY IN RHYTHM, PART 1 -- Capitol EAP 1-383

Here's a neat little picture cover EP of Maynard with the Kenton Orchestra on 4 tracks from the New Concepts LP: 23 Deg. N - 82 Deg. W., Portrait of a Count, Young Blood, and Frank Speaking. These tunes were recorded 9/10 and 9/11/52. Like the LP, the cover on this one has an orange and black graphic of Kenton smoking a cigarette.
COPY #1. The cover on this one is relatively clean and nice, with the only real problems being on the bottom seam: a 1.5" seam split at lower right and a 2" seam crack at bottom center. Still, it's easily an EX cover. The disc has super clean and nice labels. The vinyl is a bit scuffed and there are some light surface scratches. It's in the VG+ range. Overall, this copy is EX-. $6.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one has a 1" seam split at upper right, but otherwise, it's a super clean and nice cover. It's NMINT- to NMINT. The vinyl has super clean and nice labels, and rates an EX to EX+. Yours for $8.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, LONESOME TRAIN / TABOO -- Capitol F2250

Maynard played with the Kenton Orchestra on "Lonesome Train” and "Taboo," both recorded 9/11/52.
COPY #1. This copy is pretty nice, in EX condition. $4.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, HUSH-A-BYE / HARLEM NOCTURNE -- Capitol F2373

Maynard recorded these two tracks with the Kenton Orchestra on 1/22/53. The trumpets are out on Hush-a-Bye, but the players sing, so here's your chance to hear MF taking part in a vocal. The trumpets are back in on Harlem Nocturne. Great stuff!!!
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, ALONE TOO LONG / DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVE FROM ME -- Capitol F2789

Maynard recorded these two tracks with the Kenton Orchestra on 3/31/54. For some reason, this is a relatively rare 45. I almost never see one.
COPY #1. One label on this copy has "27" written on it, and the other has "28". The vinyl has a lot of light scrathing and scuffing. It's a slightly below average copy, in GOOD condition (which actually means not so good). Due to the flaws, just $1.00.
COPY #2. The labels on this one look a bit faded. The vinyl is a bit cloudy. So I play tested it. It's got some definite background noise on playback, and I'd rate it as VG -- just an average copy, at best. Yours for $2.00.
COPY #3. This copy is just VG-, with quite a bit of surface noise, and slight fading of the label. Just $1.50.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, THE LADY IN RED, UNDER A BLANKET OF BLUE -- Capitol F2822

Maynard recorded these two tracks with the Kenton Orchestra on 3/31 and 5/6/54, respectively. This one seems to be pretty hard to find, as I seldom see a copy.
COPY #1. The labels on this copy are near-perfect. The vinyl is super, except for a few surface scratches in one small spot. Overall, it's an EX copy. $5.00.
COPY #2. The labels on this one are super! The vinyl is a super clean and nice EX++. Yours for $6.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, BAA-TOO-KEE / WINTER IN MADRID -- Capitol F3345

Maynard played with the Kenton Orchestra on "Baa-Too-Kee” recorded 1/30/53 at the Capitol Melrose Studios in Los Angeles.
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, AND THE BULL WALKED AROUND, OLAY! / JEEPERS CREEPERS -- Capitol F2388

Maynard played with the Kenton Orchestra on “The Bull” and “Jeepers Creepers” recorded 2/11/53. Chris Connor is featured, and this sounds just like it could have been recorded as part of Two’s Company eight years later. Interestingly, this is the same day that MF layed down the tracks "A Trumpet" and "An Orchestra" with Kenton for Capitol. What a prolific day!!!
COPY #1. EX. $4.00.
COPY #2. EX. $4.00.
COPY #3. This one has a dime-sized tear on the label. The vinyl is average, with the typical surface noise from this era. Overall, it's VG- to VG. Just $2.00.
COPY #4. This copy has a super clean label with no damage of any kind. The vinyl is quite nice, EX+. A very nice copy! $5.00.
COPY #5. This one is a super copy, in EX++ to NMINT- condition. One of the nicest copies you'll find. $6.00.
COPY #6. The labels on this one are clean and nice, and the vinyl is EX. $4.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, MORE LOVE THAN YOUR LOVE / SKOOT -- Capitol F2871

Maynard recorded "More Love Than Your Love" on 3/31/54 and "Skoot" on 5/6/54 with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. Here they are in 45 RPM format.
COPY #1. Just in, this is the first copy of this 45 I've had in a very long time. The labels are clean and nice. The vinyl is EX to EX+. Yours for $6.00.
COPY #2. Just in, this one has clean and nice labels and EX- vinyl. $4.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, 23 DEGREES N - 82 DEGREES W / FALLING -- Capitol F3134

Maynard recorded "23 DEGREES N - 82 DEGREES W" on 9/11/52 with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. (He's not on the track "Falling".) Here it is in 45 RPM format.
COPY #1. EX+. $5.00.
COPY #2. This one has some black felt-tip writing on each side of the label, and a bit of damage to the label on one side. Too bad. Instead of EX, due to these problems, it's just VG-. Just $1.50.
COPY #3. The labels on this one are super clean and nice, with no damage of any kind. The vinyl is EX+. A very nice copy, $5.00.
COPY #4. The labels on this one are are super clean and nice. The vinyl's EX- to EX. Yours for $3.00.
COPY #5. The labels on this one show just a bit of record ring wear on one side. Otherwise, they're nice and undamaged. The vinyl is EX- to EX. $3.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, WINTER IN MADRID / BAA-TOO-KEE -- Capitol F3345

Here's Maynard with Stan Kenton on the track Baa-Too-Kee only, recorded 1/30/53. He does NOT play on Winter in Madrid.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, WINTER IN MADRID / BAA-TOO-KEE (WHITE LABEL PROMO VERSION) -- Capitol F3345

Here's Maynard with Stan Kenton on the track Baa-Too-Kee only, recorded 1/30/53. He does NOT play on Winter in Madrid. This is a white label promo version!
COPY #1. This copy has super nice labels, and the vinyl is EX++. $6.00.
COPY #2. The labels on this copy are clean and nice, but the original owner neatly rubber-stamped his name, once per side. The disc itself rates an EX+. $6.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, KENTON IN HI-FI, PART 1 – Capitol EAP 1-724

This picture cover 45 RPM Extendend Play album (7") is one of four little EPs that make up the total Kenton in Hi-Fi album. This one contains the tracks Artistry Jumps, Interlude, Lover, and Unison Riff.
COPY #1. The cover on this one shows a lot of the typical surface wear, which is present on almost every copy of this EP. There's also a 1" spine crack at bottom center, and someone wrote the words "and need you" on the front cover, in ink. Ouch! This reduces it to just VG-. The vinyl, on the other hand, is pretty nice -- EX. Overall, it's VG+. But due to the writing on the cover, this one is just $1.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, KENTON IN HI-FI, PART 2 – Capitol EAP 2-724

This picture cover 45 RPM Extendend Play album (7") is one of four little EPs that make up the total Kenton in Hi-Fi album. This one contains the tracks Intermission Riff and Concerto to End All Concertos. Maynard solos BIG TIME on "Concerto".
COPY #1. The cover on this one shows a lot of the typical record ring wear, which is present on almost every copy of this EP. Otherwise, it's in super condition, and rates at least an EX. The vinyl is pretty nice -- EX- to EX. Overall, it's EX. $5.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, KENTON IN HI-FI, PARTS 1 & 2 – Capitol EBF 1-724

This picture cover 45 RPM Extendend Play album (7") is one of two little double gatefold EPs that make up the total Kenton in Hi-Fi album. This one contains the tracks Artistry Jumps, Interlude, Lover, Unison Riff, Intermission Riff and Concerto to End All Concertos. Maynard solos BIG TIME on "Concerto".
COPY #1. The cover on this one shows a some of the typical surface wear, which is present on almost every copy of this EP, but it's nicer than most. There's a small tear on the front cover, at the right edge. It's dime-sized. Due to the tear, let's call this cover just VG+ -- otherwise, I would have rated it EX. The vinyl is pretty nice, although like most 45s, you can hear a bit of background noise. Still, it rates an EX. Overall, let's call this copy EX-. Although it's a hard-to-find EP, due to the minor damage to the cover, it's just $2.00.

STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, KENTON IN HI-FI (UK RELEASE) – Capitol EAP 1041

This one's an English 7" picture cover EP of four tunes from the great Kenton in Hi-FI LP. The tunes are The Peanut Vendor, Artistry Jumps, Lover, and Eager Beaver. These are very, very hard to find, even in the UK!!!
COPY #1. This is the first, and perhaps the last, copy of this EP I've ever had for sale on this website. They are very, very hard to find. The cover on this one shows a few minor signs of age, but there's no real problem. It's easily NMINT-. The vinyl has a few of the light surface scratches that you find on these 45s, but they're very light. It still plays quite well, with just a little surface noise audible in the softer passages. It's EX. Overall, this copy is EX+ -- a nice, solid copy of this hard-to-find little gem. It's yours for $10.00.
