Vic Lewis LPs with Maynard Ferguson
VIC LEWIS CONDUCTS THE ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA -- Private Pressing
Did you know that Maynard recorded a tune called "The Other Woman" with Vic Lewis? He did, and here it is! These LPs were privately pressed, so they don't bear a record label name or catalog number. They come with a pink label, and are in a plain, black sleeve -- like a 12" single sleeve. This is the way they were produced. The picture cover is NOT missing, as there never was one. One the labels it says "DEMONSTRATION / NOT FOR / SALE" and "Made in U.S.A." The way I found out about them is that I bought three MINT, FACTORY SEALED copies from a former jazz DJ at station KLON (now KJAZZ) in Long Beach, who told me he actually got them from Vic Lewis!!! Vic just handed him a stack of them one day. The three copies I bought were the only ones he had left from that stack. They are RARE, RARE, RARE!!!!!!!! So if you want a copy of Maynard playing this particular track, here it is. I've actually never heard it, because I don't want to unseal mine, but I understand it's very lush, and that Maynard plays beautifully -- a lot like the Ballad Style LP tracks.
COPY #1. Just in, this copy is in a pristine original NMINT++ black sleeve, and the disc itself appears to have been played just once per side. It's likewise NMINT++. A super copy, it's $95.00. Here's Vic Lewis' UK NEMS STEREO release, "My Way, My Way." Side 1 contains his Russian Suite. Side 2 includes 5 tracks, the first of which is "The Other Woman," featuring solist Maynard Ferguson!!! This track sounds a lot like Maynard's own Ballad Style LP tracks. It was recorded at about the same time, and is orchestrated in much the same style. An absolute MUST for every serious MF collection!!!
COPY #1. Just in, this is the first one of these relatively rare LPs I've had in a long time. The cover on this copy has a slight crease in the bottom left corner, but it's minor, and otherwise, this cover is in super condition. It's NMINT. The vinyl is likewise a clean and nice NMINT! COPY #2. Here's a very nice copy of this elusive LP. The cover is a relatively clean and nice NMINT, with no real problems. The vinyl is a seldom played (maybe once or twice) NMINT+!! Here's Vic Lewis' 4-LP boxed set entitled "My Life My Way." It contains various tracks that Lewis recorded between 1938 and 1974. Included is the 1969 track "The Other Woman," featuring solist Maynard Ferguson!!! This track sounds a lot like Maynard's own Ballad Style LP tracks. It was recorded at about the same time, and is orchestrated in much the same style. Inside the box cover is an LP-size 12-page booklet that has a great photo of MF inside that was snapped in Czechoslovakia in 1967. It also has full discographical information. An absolute MUST for every serious MF collection!!!

COPY #3. Just in, the box cover on this one shows some light rubbing on the corners and a small crack at top mid-seam on the back cover. Still, it's a very solid, very nice cover and looks almost new. It's NMINT. The original booklet is included and it's like new. The vinyl on discs one and two shows a few very light surface scratches. I'd rate those two discs as NMINT-. The vinyl in disc three is NMINT to NMINT+. The vinyl on disc four looks like it was maybe played once or twice, and it's NMINT+. Overall, the vinyl is NMINT. Let's call this entire set NMINT. It's a very, very nice copy. Yours for $45.00.
