ITEM #1 -- JIMMY DORSEY AND HIS ORCHESTRA, VOL. 3, 1949, 1951 -- Hindsight Records HSR-165
Here's the rare Hindsight LP with MF. The cover on this copy has just the slightest record ring wear, and the very beginnings of a 1" spine crack at bottom center.
However, it's a super clean and nice cover, and still rates a NMINT. The vinyl is just absolutely PRISTINE! NMINT+. Overall, this is a super, NMINT to NMINT+
copy. $65.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #2 --STAN KENTON CONCERT IN MINIATURE ENCORES, JANUARY 18, 1953, HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM -- Joyce JRC-1205
Here's the ULTRA rare Joyce Record Club LP with MF. This is only the second copy I've ever seen!!! This one is, unbelievably, FACTORY SEALED, in MINT
condition!!!!! You'll never find one nicer!!!! $100.00.

ITEM #3 --STAN KENTON, ONE NIGHT STAND WITH STAN KENTON AT CARNEGIE HALL -- Joyce LP-1080
Less rare than the LP above, this one is still in demand. The cover on this copy has a clean hole punch in the upper right corner (a cut-out item). There are also
a few minor problems -- a slight ding to the upper spine, a 1.5" spine crack that's just barely forming at top center, and a little crease at bottom right.
Nevertheless, this is an ultra clean,
really pristine cover. AND HERE'S THE GREAT THING -- IT'S BEAUTIFULLY AUTOGRAPHED BY MF!!! Due to the hole punch and other slight flaws, this
otherwise pristine cover is just EX. The vinyl is a stunning NMINT to NMINT+. Just beautiful. Overall, this copy is in the EX++ range. $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #4 --L. SUBRAMANIAM, MANI & CO. --Milestone M-9138
Here's the desirable Indian violinist LP with MF as special guest artist. This copy is MINT, FACTORY SEALED!!! Just absolutely beautiful, with no
problems of any kind. In this condition, a steal at $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #5 --ONE NIGHT STAND WITH STAN KENTON IN 1950, CAVALCADE OF BANDS -- Joyce LP-1060
A relatively rare LP, this one is in heavy demand. The cover on this copy has a clean hole punch in the upper right corner (a cut-out item). Too bad,
because otherwise, it's easily a clean and nice NMINT. AND HERE'S THE GREAT THING -- IT'S
BEAUTIFULLY AUTOGRAPHED BY MF!!! Due to the hole punch, this
otherwise pristine cover is just EX+. The vinyl is easily NMINT. Overall, this copy is in the NMINT- range. $50.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #6 --KENTON AND BIRD: STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA WITH CHARLIE PARKER AND DIZZY GILLESPIE -- Jazz Supreme JS 703
A really rare LP, this one is in ULTRA heavy demand. I've only sold one copy before on my web site. The covers on these are really thin, and generally
have some creases in them. This one is no exception, with a little light creasing in a couple of corners. Otherwise, however, it's super clean and nice --
almost like new. The cover easily rates a NMINT. The vinyl is an absolutely PRISTINE NMINT++!!! Just beautiful. Overall, this copy rates a NMINT+. A very
fair price for this rare and desirable LP, $75.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #7 --PATTI PAGE IN THE LAND OF HI-FI (WITH PETE RUGOLO AND HIS ORCHESTRA) -- EmArcy MG-36074
A couple of years ago this LP was re-released in CD format, and the liner notes of the CD stated that MF was possibly on this album. Well, the gentleman
who's selling this collection actually met Patti Page in person on Sunday, March 5, 2000. She was performing with the U.S. Air Force Band at DAR
Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. After the show, Ms. Page placed a beautiful autograph on this album cover. It reads, "Thanks / Patti / Page".
The MF collector
asked her, "Do you remember if Maynard Ferguson was in the Rugolo Orchestra for this recording?" Her answer was an emphatic, "Yes!" She said she
clearly recalled that Maynard played on this LP. So that clears up a big mystery for all us collectors! Anyway, the collector has included the program from
that March 5, 2000 concert with this LP as evidence (along with the autographed cover) of his conversation with Patti Page that night.
The cover on this copy is just
great! The front paper looks like new. There's a 1/2" seam split in the bottom right corner, and a little sign of wear and extremely light toning on the spine.
Still, this is a super cover. The best I've seen. It's NMINT. The vinyl is likewise NMINT. Just a GREAT copy!!!! And what a story! $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #8 --SHORTY ROGERS,"BLUES EXPRESS" (FRENCH IMPORT) -- RCA Masters FXL1 7234
Here's Maynard on a relatively rare French pressing of the Shorty Rogers "Blues Express" LP. It's got a gatefold cover, and is very hard to come by. The cover
on this one has a few very light creases along the left edge, and one light crease on the right edge. Otherwise, it's super clean and nice. I'd rate it as
NMINT-. The vinyl is absolutely PRISTINE! NMINT+!! Overall, this copy is NMINT. $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #9 --HERB POMEROY, MAYNARD FERGUSON, TRUMPETS OUT FRONT -- Vogue VJD567
OK folks, hold on to your hats. Here's a super rare one, and it's got quite a story. Most of you have heard of this European import double-LP with Herb Pomeroy
on one disc and Maynard on the other. But I'm guessing very few of you own a copy. It's only the second one I've ever seen. The cover on this copy is just
absolutely pristine -- NMINT+. You won't find one nicer. And the vinyl is likewise an ultra clean and nice NMINT+. Just a superb copy, in NMINT+ condition.
It looks like it just came out of the shrink wrap. BUT THERE'S MORE!!!! Maynard autographed it on the front, just below mid-center. Later, our collector
friend was introduced to Herb Pomeroy. The collector asked him to sign it, and Herb said, "Where would you like me to sign it?" The collector said, "Oh, I don't
care. Just sign it anywhere on the front cover." Pomeroy responded, "OK. I'm going to sign right below Maynard. I don't deserve to sign above him!" YES.
THAT'S TRUE!!! And he did sign just below Maynard. Both signatures appear to be with the same black marking pen, and are crisp and clean. So what we
have here is a unique LP, with a great story, and it's probably the only copy in existence with BOTH signatures on it. One of you will be lucky to get it at $175.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #10 -- NAT KING COLE, MAYNARD FERGUSON, ART PEPPER, THE YOUNG GIANTS, SPECIAL EDITION VOL. 1 -- S&H Records SH 4546
Here's a RARE various artists LP including MF on the track Sweet Georgia Brown, which was originally released on a 10" Skylark LP in the early 1950s. This
version, of course, is a MUCH better pressing. These LPs are super hard to find. I believe this is only the fourth copy I've ever seen. The cover has just the
faintest touch of record ring wear, and there's a very light scratch at upper right. Still, it's a really clean and nice cover, and deserves a NMINT rating. AND ...
once again, this one is autographed by Maynard. The autograph was done with a high-quality silver marker, and it looks wonderful on the dark green
background. The disc is pristine! NMINT+!!! Overall, this copy is rare, autographed, and in the NMINT to NMINT+ range!!! What a beauty!!! $135.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #11 -- VARIOUS ARTISTS, WAY TO THE WEST (SPANISH IMPORT) -- Fresh Sounds 054-2602131
Here's a RARE various artists LP including MF on the tracks Love Locked Out, Band Ain't Draggin', Short Wave, and Take the "A" Train, all recorded in
Hollywood on 9/13/50! This is only the third or fourth copy of this LP I've ever seen. The cover has a miniscule bend in the upper right corner. Otherwise,
it's super clean and nice. It's easily NMINT, tending to NMINT+. The vinyl is just PRISTINE!!! NMINT++!!! What a beauty! Overall, this copy is NMINT+.
BUT WAIT!!!! I know this is beginning to sound monotonous, but it's AUTOGRAPHED by MF, very nicely, on the front cover. What more could you ask for?
$165.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #12 -- CHARLIE BARNET, LONELY STREET -- Verve MGV-2040
Here's a hard-to-find Verve LP from the mid-'50s with Maynard blowing the roof off on several tunes, most notably, Lumby. The front cover is very clean
and nice. There's a little roughness along the top spine, and there's a letter "R" written on the back, as well as a couple of small scrapes. Although it looks
NMINT from the front, I'd call this one EX- to EX. The vinyl is NMINT-. Normally selling for about $45.00 in NMINT condition, this copy is EX to EX+, and
is priced at $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #13 -- CHARLIE BARNET, REDSKIN ROMP -- RCA Victor LPM-1091
Here's a hard-to-find RCA LP from the mid-'50s with Maynard coming through loud and clear in the brass section. The front cover is very clean
and nice. The spine is fully split in the bottom left corner, there are two pieces of transparent tape on the bottom spine, and the top spine is split
about 2" at upper right. There's some surface wear and a dime-sized minor discoloration on the back (from a price sticker). So this cover definitely is
not the best. I'd call it VG+ to EX-, although it looks NMINT from the front. The vinyl has a couple of light scuffs and scratches visible, but they won't
significantly affect play. I'd rate it as EX to EX+. Overall, this copy is in the EX- to EX range -- above average, but with some definite flaws. Instead of
the normal $45.00 for a NMINT copy, just $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #14 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, FREAKY (UK IMPORT) -- Atlantic 2464 008
Here's the very hard-to-find English version of the U.S. album "Ridin' High." It's got a totally different cover, although the tracks are the same. The covers on
these are thin, and typically show creases and delamination. The cover on this copy is in super condition, with just a couple of visible creases in the laminate
itself, and a little loosening of the laminate along the left spine. Still, it's near-perfect -- NMINT!! The vinyl has a couple of light scuffs, but it's about as nice
as I've seen for this LP. It's NMINT-. Overall, it's a clean and nice NMINT- to NMINT copy. BUT HOLD ON, ONCE AGAIN!!!! Our collector friend asked Ed
Sargeant to take it back stage one night and have Maynard autograph it. He did, but on the back. That displeased our friend, so he later took it to Maynard
himself and had him sign it again, this time on the front. So it's got TWO AUTOGRAPHS of MF on it!!!! I'll bet it's the only double-autographed LP by
Maynard in existence. What to ask for this little gem? $75.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #15 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, COME BLOW YOUR HORN -- Cameo C-1066
Here's the MONO version of this great mid-'60s LP. As I'm sure you know, this is quite a bit harder to find that its sister album, The New Sounds of MF. It's got
a clean and nice cover, with one miniscule scrape on the front near the bottom, and a little wear on a couple of corners. It's still NMINT- to NMINT. The vinyl is
likewise NMINT- to NMINT. So, overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. And ... this is almost getting boring ... IT'S AUTOGRAPHED NICELY ON THE FRONT
BY MF!!!!! Yours for $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #16 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD FERGUSON SEXTET -- Radio Canada International RCI 264
Here's the RARE Canadian LP which I've documented as having four different covers. This one is the kind that says "Transcription" on the front, has a silver
background, and a small photograph of a guitar, violin, and two clarinets. It's also got some antique-looking drawings of harps, lutes, etc. near the bottom.
These are just incredibly hard to find!!! The cover on this copy has some record ring wear visible, and a minor bend in the bottom, right-hand corner. Someone
apparently wrote something on a piece of paper that was sitting on the back cover, and it left a few small depressions in the cover paper. I'd rate this cover as
EX+. The vinyl is a very clean and shiny NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT-. Yes, it's ALSO autographed by MF on the front cover, in black ink. Just a really
nice and really rare record. $100.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #17 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BIRDLAND DREAM BAND -- Vik LX-1070
As I'm sure you know, here's Maynard's circa 1957 Birdland Dream Band on a relatively hard-to-find LP. The covers on these are almost always damaged due to
poor initial quality. This one does have a few flaws. There's a 3" spine split at lower right and a 2" spine crack at bottom center. The top spine was repaired
in the past with transparent tape, but it's really only noticeable on that back side. There's also a fair amount of surface wear, and on the back, a small (about 3/8"
inch square) area of slight discoloration from a removed price sticker. Compared to most of these covers, this one is just a little better than most I've seen. It's
in the VG+ to EX- range. The vinyl, however, is MUCH nicer. It's in the NMINT- range. So, overall, let's call this copy EX. It's definitely well above average,
overall. AND ... the front cover was beautifully autographed by MF in gold ink against the brown background. It looks super!!! Given the relative rarity and the
wonderful autograph, it's $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #18 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BIRDLAND DREAM BAND VOLUME 2 -- Vik LX-1077
As I'm sure you know, here's Maynard's circa 1957 Birdland Dream Band on a relatively hard-to-find LP. The covers on these are almost always damaged due to
poor initial quality. The cover on this copy is quite a bit better than average. First of all, unbelievably, there are no spine splits or cracks. There's a little thin
spot on the front left edge where some of the cover paper was scraped (does not affect the front paper -- just the edge paper next to it). On the back, there's a
very small spot of discoloration where a price sticker was removed. Overall, there's a little surface wear. But folks, this is still one of the nicer covers I've seen
on this LP. It's in the EX++ range. A relatively clean and nice cover, with no spine damage. The vinyl is quite clean and nice -- easily NMINT-. Overall, this
copy is in the EX++ to NMINT- range. AND ... the front cover was beautifully autographed by MF in gold ink against the brown background. It looks super!!!
Given the relative rarity and the wonderful autograph, it's $60.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #19 -- CHRIS CONNOR AND MAYNARD FERGUSON, DOUBLE EXPOSURE (JAPANESE RELEASE) -- Warner Pioneer P-7728
Here's a 1985 pressing of the Double Exposure LP. It's a Japanese re-issue, pressed on outstanding quality vinyl. The cover looks just like the original U.S.
release. It's in outstanding NMINT+ condition! Really pristine. The vinyl is likewise pristine -- NMINT+!
Overall, this is a NMINT+ copy. AND ... it's autographed on the front cover by MF!!! What more could you want? $50.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #20 -- CHRIS CONNOR AND MAYNARD FERGUSON, DOUBLE EXPOSURE -- Atlantic Jazzlore 90143-1
Here's the 1984 U.S. re-issue pressing of the Double Exposure LP. The cover is totally different from the original. It's in outstanding NMINT to NMINT+ condition!
Really nice and clean. The vinyl is likewise pristine. The owner says he unsealed it and never played it, and I believe it because I can't see a single
spindle mark on the label. So the vinyl is MINT.
Overall, this is a NMINT++ copy. AND ... it's autographed on the front cover by MF!!! What more could you want? $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #21 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, A MESSAGE FROM NEWPORT (SPANISH RELEASE) -- Fresh Sounds Re. 17/1
Here's the 1980s Spanish re-issue pressing of the great Roulette LP. The cover is just like the original. It's in outstanding NMINT to NMINT+ condition!
Really nice and clean. The vinyl is likewise pristine. The owner indicates that it's never-played, and I can't see a single spindle mark on the label.
Thus, it's MINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT++!!! AND ... it's autographed on the front cover by MF!!! What more could you want? $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #22 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, New Vintage -- Columbia JC 34971
We all have nice copies of New Vintage, right? Well, probably not as nice as this one. The black covers on these LPs are almost always badly worn. This one,
however, apart from just the faintest hint of some record ring wear, is almost like new. It's NMINT. The vinyl, according to the owner, is never played, and it
looks it. It's MINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT+. AND ... it's signed by MF on the front in silver ink -- the perfect color to match the trumpet and ice bucket --
against the black background. Really a beauty. And a little story, to boot. When MF signed this one, the told the owner that it's his favorite cover.
He just really loves the way it came out! I heartily agree. $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #23 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, ONE NIGHT STAND WITH MAYNARD FERGUSON, GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN, MAY 30, 1962 -- Joyce 1112
Most of us have heard about this ultra RARE LP, but don't own a copy. I only got one myself a couple of years ago. They're probably rarer than the
popular Ballad Style LP. I've seen the few copies that have sold in the past few years go for well in excess of $200.00, and one even went for more than $300.00
in the heat of an on-line auction.
The cover on this copy is really pristine. The owner removed it from the shrink wrap, had it autographed on the front by MF, and put it away in his collection. The
only detracting factor on the cover is just a faint hint of record ring wear -- but it's very minimal. It's still NMINT to NMINT+. The vinyl is MINT -- never played.
Overall, what we have here is a never-played, pristine, autographed example of one of the rarest MF LPs. Easily worth the asking price -- $300.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #24 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE MAYNARD FERGUSON OCTET -- EmArcy 36021
Here's the original MF Octet album from the mid-50s. These are getting harder and harder to find, and I've seen a NMINT copy fetch $100.00 in that last year.
The cover on this one has a clean and nice front paper, beautifully autographed by MF! The spines are a little rough, but the only split is just a 1.5" crack at
bottom center. There's the average amount of browish toning and "foxing" on the back cover. However, it's an original pressing, with blue lettering on the back
cover. So I'd rate this cover as EX. The vinyl is the original silver "drummer" on blue background style, and it's in remarkably good shape -- NMINT-. Overall,
this copy is in the EX+ range. Even with the toning on the back cover, it's still a great copy. $60.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #25 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, M.F. HORN 4 & 5, LIVE AT JIMMY'S -- Columbia PG 32732
Again, here's a relatively common, but VERY popular LP. I saw one of these sell in an on-line auction a few months ago, in factory sealed condition, for $125.00
plus postage and handling. This copy isn't sealed, but it IS never-played. The owner removed it from the shrink wrap for MF to autograph, and then placed it in
his collection. The cover is NMINT+. The vinyl is MINT. The autograph is crisp and clean and positioned just left of the "666" skyscraper on the front cover.
What a beauty! NMINT++! $70.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #26 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD -- Emus ES-12024
Here's a relatively common LP, but one with some great tunes. For those of you who don't know, it's a 1960s re-issue of Maynard '61. The owner removed this
copy from the shrink wrap, had Maynard autograph it (in white ink against the purple background) on the front, then put it away in his collection. It's never-played.
The only problem is that somehow two fine likes of ink got on the front cover at the right edge. Otherwise, the cover would be NMINT++. Let's call it NMINT. The
vinyl is, of course, MINT. Overall, it's a NMINT to NMINT+ copy. $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #27 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, NEWPORT SUITE -- Roulette R 52047
This is the MONO version of the great Newport Suite LP. The cover on this one is relatively clean and nice, with a little wear on the cover, front and back, and a
slight bend in the bottom left corner. "D J COPY / NOT FOR SALE" is stamped on the back in black block letters. I'd call this one EX to EX+ The vinyl is
never-played -- MINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT-. And it's beautifully autographed on the front by MF!!! $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #28 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, PRIMAL SCREAM / PAGLIACCI -- Columbia AS 213
Here's a Columbia 12" Disco Series single of two tracks from the Primal Scream LP. It's a relatively rare disc. I've only seen a handful of them. However, there
are some condition problems. The cover is just a plain white 12" sleeve, and it's been autographed by MF. However, it's a bit dirty, has a slight bend in
one corner, and has some damage along
the opening slit. So it's nothing too special. The vinyl has a flaw on one label. It looks like the label got a little bit torn when a price sticker was removed. The
disc itself is quite nice, and should play beautifully. I'd rate this one as EX overall. $50.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #29 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE WORLD OF MAYNARD FERGUSON -- Roulette R 52110
In my experience, this is one of the hardest Roulette LPs to acquire. I seldom see a copy. The cover on this one has a bit of record ring wear, a little general
surface wear, and a small repaired spot in the upper right-hand corner (a bit smaller than a dime) where some sticker damage occurred. A previous owner
by the name of "Donald Greig" was kind enough to write his name on the back. I'd rate this cover as
EX-. The vinyl is clean and shiny, with just one little scuff showing. It's NMINT. And, of course, it's autographed by Maynard in white ink on the dark
portion of the front cover!!!
Overall, this copy is in the EX+ range. $28.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #30 -- SASCHA BURLAND, SWINGIN' THE JINGLES -- Riverside RLP 7515
Here's another one of those LPs that many have heard about, but few own. In the late '50s a Hollywood conductor/composer by the name of Sascha
Burland put together this LP of commercial jingles done in a serious jazz style. The list of musicians on this LP is unreal -- the best of the Hollywood studio
crowd. Maynard solos on Chiquita Banana, but can be heard in the high register on several other tracks, as well. These typically sell in the $250.00 range,
WHEN one actually comes on the market. The cover on this copy is not the best. There's price sticker damage at upper right, aging transparent tape on portions
of both the top and bottom spines, some slight surface and ring wear, and heavy spine wear and cracks. It's just a VG- cover, at best. The vinyl, on the
other hand, is pretty nice. It's in the NMINT- range. So overall, this one probably rates a VG+ to EX-. Priced reasonably at $85.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #31 -- CHARLIE BARNET IN DISCO ORDER, VOLUME 21 -- Ajaz Records 217
This is one of the rare Disco Order LPs which attempted to catalog all the recordings of artists by date. This one for Charlie Barnet covers the period from
September 2, 1947 - March 16, 1949. MF plays on the last three tracks, from March 16, 1949. These are VERY hard to come by. The cover on this one shows
a little light record ring wear (minimal), a little roughness to the top spine, a little discoloration in the upper right corner from a price sticker, and one tiny
little spot, perhaps from a liquid splatter. It's still a very clean and nice LP, and rates an EX++. The owner tells me the vinyl was never played, and I can
see no evidence of play. However, there are a couple of extremely light sleeve scuffs. Due to those two scuffs, let's call it NMINT+ instead of MINT. Overall,
this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. A really nice copy -- one of the best you'll find. $50.00.
THIS ITEM FAILED TO SELL.
ITEM #32 -- CHARLIE BARNET IN DISCO ORDER, VOLUME 22 -- Ajaz Records 225
This is one of the rare Disco Order LPs which attempted to catalog all the recordings of artists by date. This one for Charlie Barnet covers the period from
March 17, 1949 - December 4, 1950. MF plays on all but the very last track. These are VERY hard to come by. The cover on this one shows
a couple of nicks on the front, a faint discoloration in one small spot from a former price sticker, and a little surface wear, but it's still in the EX++ to NMINT-
range. The vinyl appears to be never-played -- MINT. A super copy!!! $50.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #33 -- CHARLIE BARNET IN DISCO ORDER, VOLUME 24 -- Ajaz Records 273
This is one of the rare Disco Order LPs which attempted to catalog all the recordings of artists by date. This one for Charlie Barnet covers the period from
July 10, 1952 - December 6, 1954. MF plays on 10 of the 14 tracks. These are VERY hard to come by. The cover on this one is still FACTORY SEALED
in the original shrink
wrap, and appears to be near-perfect, except it's got a core hole at upper right (a cut-out item). Too bad. This reduces a MINT cover to just NMINT-. The
vinyl is, of course, MINT!!! Even with the core hole, this is a very desirable item. $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #34 -- WARDELL GRAY AND THE BIG BANDS (DANISH IMPORT) -- Official 3029
Here's a rare 1989 LP on the Offical label from Denmark. It's a compilation LP of various tunes on which sax player Wardell Gray played. Two of the
tracks are Caxton Hall Swing and For Europeans Only -- from a Louis Bellson session on which MF played in September, 1953. These tracks were
released on CD a couple of years ago, so in and of themselves, are not hard to find. But this LP is definitely hard to find. It's FACTORY SEALED, but the
shrink wrap is torn loose a bit on the back, and someone wrote the letter "P" in pencil there. Still, that's the only flaw. $65.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #35 -- VARIOUS ARTISTS, JAZZ GOES HOLLYWOOD -- Cameo SC-1078
Here's a hard-to-find compilation LP from the good folks at Cameo. It contains Blues for a Four String Guitar, Come Blow Your Horn, and Anthony & Cleopatra
by MF. This is the STEREO version. The front cover has an embossed square with an "X" inside it. There's a little ding along the opening slit, and a couple of
rubbed and slightly bent corners. There's also some light ring wear visible on the back. Still, it's a very nice looking cover. I'd give it an EX. The vinyl is
NMINT. Overall, this copy is in the EX++ range. Since it's so hard to find, $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #36 -- SAL SALVADOR, COLORS IN SOUND (THE SAL SALVADOR QUARTET WITH BRASS) -- Decca DL 72910
Here's one you're not going to believe. Maynard played on this LP under the pseudonym "Foxy Corby." (Foxy because of his nickname -- Maynard the Fox;
Corby because that was his son's first name.) Our collector friend had Maynard sign this copy, and he signed it "Maynard Ferguson," then right underneath,
he signed it "Foxy Corby"!!!! Now, if that wasn't enough, the collector later met Sal Salvador, and had Sal sign it, as well. Sal signed it, "Sal Salvador '98".
There will never be another one like this, because unfortunately, Sal passed away last year. As to condition, this is the STEREO version, and the cover
has very light bends on the tips of all four corners, and a little surface wear, mainly visible on the back. Otherwise, it's really clean and nice. I'd give it an
EX+. The vinyl is a clean and nice NMINT. Overall, this copy is in the NMINT- range. Due to its relative scarcity, the MF autograph, and the SS autograph,
this is a unique and highly collectible copy. You won't find another like it. $85.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #37 -- IKE CARPENTER, LIGHTS OUT -- Score SLP-4010
Here's one of the rarer LPs with MF. He screams on the track Pachuko Hop!!! If you've been looking for a copy of this LP, then you know just how elusive
it is. The covers on these are typically a mess, due to the poor quality of the original materials, and this copy has its problems, as well. The front paper is
really clean and nice, but does exhibit a couple of long scuffs. There's a slight bend in the upper right corner. Both the top and left spines have been taped
with clear tape. So it's just a VG to VG+ cover. The vinyl has a lot of parallel surface scratches, and will definitely have some playback background noise. I'd
rate it as VG. So, overall, this copy is in the VG to VG+ range -- just an average copy. Still, due to its extreme rarity, it's well worth the asking price -- $60.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #38 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, MACARTHUR PARK / ELI'S COMIN -- Columbia 4-45352
This is the relatively rare 7" 45 rpm version of MacArthur Park, backed with Eli's Comin. As you probably know, this comes in both a red and a blue label
version. This is the blue one. The vinyl is relatively clean and shiny, with just a couple of very light surface scuffs visible. I'd rate it as NMINT-. The label
has a small "F" inside a box inked on both sides with a blue ballpoint pen. (I'm guessing someone did that to file it under "F" for "Ferguson.")
That's really the only problem. AND ... Maynard autographed it on one side of the label in fine-tipped black marker!!! These usually sell in the $60.00
range. Due to the "F" on the labels, this copy is just $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #39 -- MAYNARD FERGUSON, YESTERDAYS / INDISCREET -- Roulette R-4084
This is the VERY rare 7" 45 rpm disc which contains two otherwise unreleased tracks. They're not even on the Mosaic boxed set!!! As you probably know, it
comes both in a regular version and a DISK JOCKEY version. This one is the DISK JOCKEY type. The vinyl on this copy has several scuffs and a number of
extra fine surface scratches. Because of this, I played it and listened carefully. Frankly, I couldn't believe it. It played very nicely, with just the slightest
background noise. So I'm going to rate it as EX. Someone wrote "S" in ball point ink within a small box on the Indiscreet side of the label. Otherwise, the
labels are clean and nice, AND ... Maynard autographed it on the Indiscreet side of the label with a fine-tipped black marker!!! These typically sell in
the $150.00 range for a NMINT copy. Although it's only EX, it's still better than most copies I've seen, and has that wonderful autograph. Priced right
at $115.00.

ITEM #40 -- HOT BLOOD, FROM THE COLUMBIA FILM "HOT BLOOD" -- RCA Victor EPA 535
Most of you have seen the 7" RCA picture cover EP entitled "The Wild One." What you may not know, is that the movie "The Wild One" actually
carried the "working title" of "Hot Blood" before it was released. RCA printed up and began to sell a few copies of this 7" EP with the title "Hot Blood"
on it prior to the release of the film. When the movie title was changed at the last minute to "The Wild One," RCA reprinted the EP for mass distribution
with the new title. We've all seen plenty of copies of "The Wild One" EP, but this early one with the "Hot Blood" title on the cover is ULTRA RARE! This is
only the second copy I've ever seen of this EP. The picture cover shows some surface wear, mainly visible on the back, a 1/4" seam split at bottom right,
and a 1/2" seam crack at bottom center. Otherwise, the spines are undamaged. I'd rate this cover in the EX+ range. It's relatively clean and looks super.
The vinyl has one light scuff. It's NMINT-. Overall, this copy is in the EX++ range. Really a gem. Due to its rarity, $145.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
