Here's a compilation LP on Creative World of many of the great Kenton tunes. This one has a unique cover, different from the other Creative World releases. It shows a full color portrait of Stan surrounded by a gold leaf picture frame. It's also got a custom inner sleeve with a great picture of a very young Maynard. The cover has a slight bend at upper left, as well as one at lower right, but otherwise is super clean and nice. It's still NMINT. The vinyl is MINT, NEVER PLAYED!!!!!! Yours for $25.00.

ITEM #367 -- STAN KENTON, THE KENTON ERA -- Capitol WDX-569

Here's the great Kenton Era LP, released originally by Capitol in 1955 as catalog number T-569 with turquoise labels. This particular version, with catalog number WDX-569 is a Capitol re-issue from about 1960 with black labels. It's got the Capitol logo at left, which places it in this approximate date range. It's a boxed set of 4 LPs and is numbered as limited edition number V4257 of, I believe, 5000. The box also contains a custom 44-page booklet with all kinds of good info about the Kenton Orchestra. The beauty of this set is the pristine, NMINT++ box. You just never see these boxes this nice. The LPs are never-played, but do have a few very light paper scuffs from being taken in and out of the sleeves a few times. Still, the vinyl is NMINT++, as well -- almost MINT. Overall, this is a super NMINT++ copy of this great LP set. Yours for $65.00.

ITEM #368 – STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, NEW CONCEPTS OF ARTISTRY IN RHYTHM – Capitol T383

Folks, pay close attention to this listing. This is the first pressing (turquoise labels) of the great Capitol LP featuring Maynard and guitarist Sal Salvador on the tune Invention for Guitar and Trumpet. It's also got Maynard wailing away on the track Prologue! The cover is pretty nice, but someone put clear tape at five different spots along the seams. The front paper is relatively clean and nice, but on back there's a little surface wear, a written name in ink, and a dime-sized discoloration from a price sticker removal. A dealer had lightly written "N-" in pencil on the back. I carefully erased it, leaving no trace, but it's not that nice. I'd rate the cover as EX- … still well above average, but with some definite flaws. OK, now here's where the good stuff starts. The vinyl is, remember, the original pressing! And it's NMINT- … just a few very light surface scratches keep it from being NMINT or better. It looks like it's only been played a few times. And … the clincher, this one is autographed by BOTH Maynard and Sal Salvador on the front in silver ink against the dark background of the cover. Stunning!!!!! Now, keep in mind that Sal departed this world a year or two ago, and you begin to see why this is so special! If the cover were NMINT, this one would be priced in ANY record store in the land for about $75.00, due to these outstanding autographs and the rare combination of signatures. Due to the cover problems, however, this one is priced here at just $45.00.

ITEM #369 – STAN KENTON, CAPITOL JAZZ CLASSICS VOLUME 2, ARTISTRY IN JAZZ – Capitol M-11027

ITEM #370 – STAN KENTON, KENTON IN HI-FI – Capitol W 724

Here's the Capitol version of the Kenton in Hi-Fi LP -- my favorite Kenton LP of all time! The cover on this one has pristine front paper, solid seams, and just a couple of small problems on the back -- a slight, dime-sized discoloration where a price sticker was removed and a sort of scratch, possibly my by a sharp instrument. Both are minor, and the cover is still NMINT. The vinyl is MINT, NEVER PLAYED. Yours for $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #371 – CLIFFORD BROWN, JAM SESSION (JAPANESE RELEASE) – Nippon Phonogram EXPR-1012

Here's the great Clifford Brown Jam Session LP (originally released in 1954 as EmArcy MG 36002). This is a 1980s-era Japanese re-issue on pure virgin vinyl. The cover is as nice as they get -- NMINT++!!! It also retains its original paper "obi" strip. The vinyl is MINT, NEVER PLAYED!!! And … it's got a personalized autograph on the front: "To xxxx and yyyy, Maynard Ferguson." "xxxx" and "yyyy" are the Major Collector and his wife. There's a little smudge of the "T" in the word "To", but otherwise, it's a clean and nice autograph in black marker. This nice copy is yours for $40.00.

ITEM #372 – CHARLIE BARNET, ONE NIGHT STAND WITH THE BATTLE OF THE BANDS, CHARLIE BARNET VS. WOODY HERMAN, STAN KENTON AS REFEREE – Joyce LP-1012

Here's the great Charlie Barnet LP where he goes up against the Herman band in a sort of mock "battle of the bands." Stan Kenton had disbanded his band in December, 1948, so he was without a band and stopped by the Rendezvous Ballroom on 7/30/49 and chatted with the M.C. in between cuts. It all got captured on disc. You can hear MF wailing on several tunes, and frankly, this would have been a sort of "audition" for MF to join the Kenton band for the first time just 6 months later. Great stuff! This copy has a nice NMINT cover, and seldom-played NMINT vinyl. $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #373 – CHARLIE BARNET, CHARLIE BARNET & HIS ORCHESTRA - 1949 – Alamac QSR 2446

Here's the great Barnet LP with MF on the famous All the Things You Are!!! Great stuff! This copy has a super clean and nice NMINT cover, and the vinyl appears never-played, although it does have one minor sleeve scuff that absolutely will not affect play. It's easily NMINT. Overall, this is a nice, NMINT copy. $30.00.

ITEM #374 – CHARLIE BARNET, CHARLIE BARNET AND HIS ORCHESTRA, 1944-1949 – Golden Era Records GE-15015

Here's another Barnet LP! This one has Maynard, along with Doc, on the tracks Fantasia, Reflections, Tango, and Blue Skies, from an unspecified date in 1949. The front cover on this one is absolutely pristine! The back shows just a bit of yellowing near the edges. Still, this is easily a NMINT cover. The vinyl may have been played once. It's NMINT+. Overall, a super NMINT to NMINT+ copy. $30.00.
THIS ITEM FAILED TO SELL.

ITEM #375 – CHARLIE BARNET, CHARLIE BARNET AND HIS ORCHESTRA, SWINGIN' ON NOTHIN' – Big Band Archives LP-1209

Here's yet another Barnet LP! This one has Maynard on the track Lullaby of Birdland from April, 1954. The cover on this one has some light brownish toning along the left edge and a bit of record ring wear and surface wear, front and back. I'd rate it as EX-. The vinyl is a seldom-played NMINT. Overall, this one is EX+. $22.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #376 – CHARLIE BARNET, CHARLIE BARNET AND HIS ORCHESTRA, RHAPSODY IN BARNET – Swing Era Records LP-1019

Still another Barnet LP! This one has Maynard on the tracks Rhapsody in Blue and Cornacopia from August, 1949. The cover on this one has some light brownish toning around the edges and a bit of very light surface wear. I'd rate it as EX. The vinyl is a seldom-played NMINT-. Overall, this one is EX+. $22.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #377 – CHARLIE BARNET, CHARLIE BARNET AND HIS ORCHESTRA, SOME LIKE IT HOT – Swing Era Records LP-1002

AND ANOTHER Barnet LP! This one has Maynard on the famous track All the Things You Are from August, 1949. The front cover on this one is near-flawless -- the nicest I've seen. The seams are nice and tight. The back, however, looks like it had the surface paper cut all the way across with a box cutter. It just BARELY cut through the surface layer of the paper. Due to this flaw, let's call it EX, although it otherwise is NMINT in every regard. The vinyl is a seldom-, if ever-played NMINT to NMINT+. Overall, this one is EX+ to NMINT-. $22.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
