MAJOR COLLECTOR SALE #1 -- THIS SALE CLOSED 7/29/05

ITEM #81 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, DON'CHA GO 'WAY MAD / SECRET LOVE - Roulette SSR-8016

Here's Maynard's little 45 RPM 7" STEREO disc with two of the earlier Roulette recordings. The labels look a little bit dingy, but are undamaged. Very nice. The vinyl has some scuffs and quite a few very light scratches that translate to some background noise on playback. It's in the VG+ to EX- range. This particular disc is quite hard to find, but what's more amazing is that Maynard autographed the label on the Don'Cha side in black ink. You won't see one of these again! $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #82 - MAYNARD FERGUSON AND HIS ORCHESTRA , LOVE LOCKED OUT / BAND AIN'T DRAGIN' -- Capitol F-1269

Here's an early Capitol 45 with Maynard leading the Kenton band on two showcase tracks. The labels are completely intact and in super shape. Maynard autographed the "Love Locked" side in silver ink. The vinyl is scuffed a bit, and has some ultra-fine surface scratches that will translate to some noise on playback. Still, it's clean and shiny and one of the better ones I've seen. I'd give it an EX- to EX. Due to its relative rarity, this one is $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #83 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, HEY THERE / LET'S FALL IN LOVE -- Roulette R-4207

Here's a hard-to-find Roulette 45 with MF on two of his most danceable tracks. I love his renditions of both. The "Hey There" side has the inked letters "SN" enclosed in a rectangle. The "Let's Fall" side has the inked letter "F", likewise enclosed in a rectangle. Maybe "SN" means "super nifty" and "F" means "fantastic". You tell ME why these nuts had to write on the labels!!! Otherwise, the labels and clean, nice, and undamaged. Maynard autographed it nicely on the "Let's Fall" side. The vinyl has a couple of scuffs, but it's quite nice, and MUCH nicer than most I've seen - EX++. If it wasn't for the writing on the labels, this one would be $35.00. Due to that small problem, this one is yours for $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #84 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE PARTY'S OVER / IT COULD HAPPEN TO YOU -- Roulette SSR-33-8035

Here's the STEREO 33 1/3 RPM, small spindle hole, 7" disc of two of the early Roulette tracks. If my memory serves me correctly, Roulette put out 5 different ones of these small 33 1/3 discs. I've been able to find four of them myself. (If you know more about these, let me know. I think they may have been issued as a set, but I've NEVER seen them as a set!!! If you've got a set, you're a RICH person!) Anyway, these are VERY hard to find, and I seldom see one. When I do, they're usually very pricey. The label on this one is a little dingy, but it's not too bad. The vinyl is pretty rough - lots of scuffs and surface scratches. It plays through without skips, but with definite background noise. It's only VG-. I've seen these go for $55.00+. This one, due to the condition, is just $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #85 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, CONCEPTION -- EmArcy EP-1-6028

Here's another one that many of you have never heard of before. It's a 7", picture cover EP of MF on the track "Somebody Loves Me" (half per side). This is the second rarest EmArcy EP, in my humble opinion, with only the Octet EP being rarer. This is only about the fourth or fifth copy I've ever seen. (I've only seen ONE copy of Octet, and it's in my personal collection, in NMINT+ condition! Hey, can't I brag a little just once? It's my pride and joy!) Anyway, back to the story. This picture cover EP is highly sought-after by MF collectors, and you just don't see them very often. Item #84 wasn't autographed, but this EP makes up for it, because it's autographed TWICE - once on the front of the picture cover, and again on the disc label. (The one on the disc label is personalized, "To x & y, Maynard Ferguson".) The one on the orange cover is in black; the one on the blue label is in silver. Both look great. The cover has a super clean and nice front paper, but the backing paper has a bit of the typical brownish "foxing" that you find on these EmArcy EPs. However, it's not nearly as bad as most. The seams are all tight and unbroken. I'd rate this cover as EX++ to NMINT-. It's one of the nicest I've seen. The vinyl has just a couple of very light scuffs, but it's remarkably nice otherwise. It's NMINT-. This is really a super copy! It's NMINT- overall, and with the two nice autographs, is easily worth the asking price -- $75.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #86 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, COME BLOW YOUR HORN - Cameo C-1066

Here's the MONO version of this great Cameo LP. The cover on this copy is really clean and nice. It would be NMINT+ except that someone wrote "RECORD-CITY-11-1-63-2.89" in small blue letters on the back in the upper left-hand corner. It's still an ultra clean cover, and rates a NMINT. The vinyl is likewise NMINT. And … Maynard autographed it in black marker very nicely on the front. It's really super, in NMINT condition overall. $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #87 - STAN KENTON, THE LIGHTER SIDE -- Creative World ST-1050

Here's the most popular of the Stan Kenton Creative World LPs, due to the fact that it contains the track The Hot Canary. The cover on this copy is super clean and almost like new - NMINT+. The vinyl looks like it might have been played one time. It's superb, NMINT+. Overall, this is a best-of-breed, NMINT+ copy. $45.00
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #88 - MILT BERNHART BRASS ENSEMBLE, MODERN BRASS (SPANISH PRESSING) -- RCA Victor NL-45662

Here's Maynard with Milt Bernhart on the classic LP Modern Brass. This is NOT the mid-'50s original. Rather, it's an RCA Spanish re-issue from 1972, released by Fresh Sound Records. The cover is clean and nice -- NMINT. The vinyl appears to be never-played - NMINT+. Overall, a NMINT to NMINT+ copy. Highly desirable! $55.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #89 - CHARLIE BARNET & HIS ORCHESTRA, 1949 - Alamac QSR 2446

SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #90 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, PRIMAL SCREAM - Columbia PC 33953

Here's the great Columbia LP Primal Scream. Although these are pretty common, this copy is just pristine! The cover, other than just the very slightest edge wear, is like new. It's got NONE of the typical record ring wear, and rates a NMINT+. The vinyl is never-played, MINT condition. Overall, this copy is NMINT++. And … Maynard autographed it beautifully on the front cover in gold ink. Just outstanding!!!! $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #91 - THE AXIDENTALS, HELLO, WE'RE THE AXIDENTALS -- ABC-Paramount ABC-138

This one has Maynard and other Hollywood musicians backing a vocal group called The Axidentals. They sound a lot like Manhattan Transfer. The cover on this copy is a clean and nice NMINT. The vinyl is likewise a clean and nice NMINT. Overall, it's NMINT -- $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #92 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD FERGUSON - Wyncote SW-9023

Here's the mid-'60s LP called Maynard Ferguson on the Wyncote label, STEREO version. The cover on this one is super clean and nice on the front - looks almost like new. However, if you look very closely, you can see where some red writing was removed and left a few lines of red ink. There is a 2" seam split at lower right. On the back, it's very light, but when held in oblique light, a very light stain is visible on the upper left part of the back cover. Again, it's almost imperceptible in direct lighting. Even with the small faults, it's a clean and nice cover, and rates an EX. The vinyl is super clean and nice. I'm guessing it's maybe been played a couple of times. It's NMINT to NMINT+. Overall, this copy is EX+ to NMINT-. And … you guessed it, it's been signed by Maynard in thin black marker on the front cover. Really a nice item, and affordable at only $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #93 - MAYNARD FERGUSON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, LET'S FACE THE MUSIC AND DANCE -- Roulette R 52055

Here's the MONO version of this great MF dance classic. The cover is a clean and nice NMINT-, with the only problem being just a bit of surface wear, mainly visible on the back. The vinyl is clean and nice -- NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. And, it's autographed by MF on the front in white marker against the jade green background. It looks GREAT!!! Yours for $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #94 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, JAM SESSION FEATURING MAYNARD FERGUSON 1954 -- Trip Jazz TLP-5525

Here's the great Trip Jazz 1970s re-issue of the 1954 EmArcy Jam Session LP. The cover on this one is almost like new - NMINT+. The vinyl is in never-played, MINT condition. So overall, this one is NMINT++. Just an absolute gem copy. And … it's autographed by MF in black ink against the red background on the front. Just superb!!! $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #95 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, HOLLYWOOD PARTY (JAPANESE PRESSING) -- Nippon Phonogram EXPR-1005

This is the GREAT Japanese re-issue pressing of Maynard's original EmArcy Hollywood Party LP. This copy is ultra clean and nice. The cover is almost perfect - NMINT++ -- and still retains the original paper "obi" strip. The vinyl is never-played, in MINT condition. For all intents and purposes, this is a MINT copy! And … MF autographed it on the front cover! What more could you want? $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #96 - MAYNARD FERGUSON / HERBIE MANN, ECHOES OF AN ERA, THE HERBIE MANN-MAYNARD FERGUSON YEARS - Roulette RE-109

Here's a nice Roulette compilation double gatefold LP with Herbie Mann on one disc and MF on the other. The cover is ultra clean and near perfect. It's NMINT+. The vinyl is never-played, MINT!!! This is another one that our collector removed from the shrink wrap, had MF sign, then placed in a record sleeve for safekeeping. Isn't this gentleman amazing? What care he took to put together such an outstanding collection. Overall, this one is NMINT++. And, OF COURSE, it's beautifully autographed by MF on the front. Just a spectacular item. $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #97 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, ECHOES OF AN ERA, '61/SI! SI! M.F. - Roulette RE-122

Here's another double gatefold LP from Roulette. These usually have bad record ring wear, but this copy is really beautiful, with none present. There is one tiny problem. The front gatefold cover does have a 1" seam split at upper right. Otherwise, this is a pristine copy, and still rates a NMINT. The vinyl appears never-played, although there is an extremely light scuff across two tracks on side 4. Still, it's easily NMINT! And … it's nicely autographed by MF on the front cover. Overall, this is a very nice NMINT copy, with just two small flaws. Still super, it's $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #98 - ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK, UNCLE JOE SHANNON -- United Artists UA-LA 935-H

Wow, WHAT A COPY!!! This is yet another example of one that was removed from the shrink, signed by MF, then placed in a clean new record sleeve. The cover is so pristine, I can only call it MINT. The vinyl is likewise MINT, never-played. Just a fantastic copy. AND … it's perfectly autographed by MF on the white front cover in black marker. This one should be framed!!!! Superb+++. $55.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #99 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, BOY WITH LOTS OF BRASS - Mercury SR 60124

This one has the "cartoon-like trumpet" cover, and is in STEREO. I just couldn't believe this copy. First of all, the cover is just absolutely pristine! NMINT++!!! Of course, it's perfectly autographed by MF on the front, near top center. Although our collector friend labeled the sleeve as being NMINT, I can see one slight spindle mark on each of the labels, indicating that it was played once per side. It's still NMINT++!!! An outstanding, autographed copy in overall NMINT++ condition. I don't drink, folks, but I'm starting to feel drunk. I just can't believe the quality of these albums I'm listing!!!!! This one is $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #100 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BLUES ROAR - Mainstream 56045

Here's the original MONO Blues Roar Mainstream LP from the mid-'60s. The cover on this copy is super clean and nice on the front, but does show a bit of surface wear on the back. It still rates a NMINT, due to the overall clean and crisp appearance, and lack of any kind of damage. The vinyl looks like it might have been played once or twice. It's really clean and nice, NMINT+. Overall, this copy is in the NMINT to NMINT+ range. And … it's been autographed by MF on the front in black marker. A sweet copy! $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #101 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BEST OF MAYNARD FERGUSON -- Columbia JC 36361

Most of you know that this LP comes typically in a dull, matte-finish cover. There's also a much rarer version that comes in a shiny cover. This is the rarer, shiny one. And, it's one of those that was removed from the shrink, was signed by MF, then returned to a protective sleeve. So it's got a NMINT++ cover and MINT vinyl. You won't find one nicer! $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #102 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, ALIVE AND WELL IN LONDON (UK PRESSING) - CBS 64432

Well folks, here's a tough one to find! It's the 1971 UK release entitled Alive and Well in London! The front cover on this copy looks great, but on close inspection, there are a few flaws. First of all, someone removed a price sticker at upper right, and took a dime-sized piece of cover paper along with the sticker. Ouch! And there's a slight bend in that corner, as well. There are also some very small little creases several places around the edges. Fortunately, there's no ring or surface wear, so it's a very clean and nice cover, in spite of the flaws. I'd rate the cover as EX-. Also, as usual, it's nicely autographed by MF. The vinyl is very clean and nice, and rates at least a NMINT-. Overall, let's call this one EX. It's a nice, solid copy, with minor flaws. Normally selling for $65.00 to $75.00, this one, due to the flaws, is just $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #103 - STAN KENTON AND HIS ORCHESTRA, CONCERT ENCORES (UK PRESSING) -- First Heard FH-40

Here's one of the rare UK imports of the Kenton band. Side 1 was recorded 1/18/53. Side 2, 1/22/53. Maynard is credited on the cover. The cover has a couple of small scrapes on the back, but otherwise, is in super condition (especially for one of these thin UK covers). It's NMINT-. The collector thought he had never played this one, but I can see one extremely light spindle mark on each label, indicating it was played exactly once per side. It's NMINT++. Overall, this copy is NMINT to NMINT+. Just a great copy! $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #104 - STAN KENTON & HIS ORCHESTRA, CARNEGIE (UK PRESSING) -- First Heard FH 1006

Here's another of the rare UK First Heard discs. The cover on this one looks near-perfect. On extremely close inspection in oblique lighting you can see two spots on the front cover where someone made two check marks on a piece of paper that was sitting on top of the cover, and made small impressions in the cover paper. This is an almost trivial flaw that can't even be seen in direct lighting, but it's worth a mention. The upper right corner "thought about" creasing, but only creased slightly. Otherwise, the cover is super clean and nice, and still rates a NMINT- to NMINT. The vinyl shows every sign of being never-played. It's superb, NMINT+++. Overall, this copy is NMINT to NMINT+. Easily worth the asking price of $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #105 - STAN KENTON CONCERT IN MINIATURE ENCORES, JANUARY 18, 1953, HOLLYWOOD PALLADIUM -- Joyce Record Club JRC-1205

Here's the ultra rare Joyce Record Club LP which is in almost NO MF collections. For some reason, it's much rarer than most of the Joyce LPs. This copy is MINT, FACTORY SEALED!!!! Unreal!!! I've seen these sell for $100.00+. This copy is just $100.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #106 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, STORM - Nautilus NR 57

Most of you know that the Storm LP was issued in two versions: the common one on Palo Alto Jazz (PAJ), and this rarer audiofile edition on the Nautilus label. Well, you're not going to believe it, but this one is MINT, FACTORY SEALED (sort of), and autographed by MF. Let me explain. Our friend took a razor blade and carefully opened the original shrink wrap (which is relatively loose-fitting on these LPs). He then slipped out the cover, had MF autograph it nicely on the front, then slipped it back into the original shrink wrap and sealed it with clear tape. So it's still in the original shrink, AND it's autographed. You've got to give our collector friend credit for originality. So indeed, this one is MINT, FACTORY RE-SEALED. Yours for $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #107 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, BLUES FOR A FOUR STRING GUITAR / GROOVE - Cameo C-275

This one's a red-label PROMO version of this nifty little 45. Unfortunately, someone wrote "FN" in a rectangle (in ink) on each label. Other than this, the labels are ultra clean and nice. The vinyl rates an EX++. And .. Maynard autographed the "Groove" side on the label. Extremely cool! This one is $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #108 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, THEME FROM "NAKED CITY" / ANTHONY AND CLEOPATRA - Cameo C-261

This one is a normal red label 45. The letters "NR" are stamped in black on one label. Otherwise, the labels are very nice. The vinyl rates an EX. And … one of the labels is autographed by MF!! Yours for $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #109 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAIN THEME FROM STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE / NAIMA - Columbia 1-11183

Some of you may know about this 45. Maynard recorded an earlier Star Trek track, which was the theme from the TV show. This one was recorded later, and is the MOTION PICTURE version. As a result, this little 45 is quite rare. Few collectors have it. The labels on this copy are pristine, and the vinyl is NMINT- to NMINT. And … it's beautifully autographed on the Star Trek side by MF in silver ink. Just spectacular!!! Yours for $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #110 - BILLY MAY AND HIS ORCHESTRA, HI-FI / THE SONG IS YOU - Capitol F2849

I'm betting that only a handful of you knows that MF recorded with Billy May. MF is on this disc on the track "Hi-Fi" only. The same track is on the Battle of the Big Bands LP, as I recall. But here it is in stand-alone 45 format. These are very hard to find!!! A little background info. The track "Hi-Fi" was recorded 5/26/54, and was recording session #3455 at Capitol Records in Los Angeles. (Documentation is from "The Music of Billy May" by Jack Mirtle.) So there's no doubt - MF is on it! The labels on this copy are ultra clean and nice. The vinyl is NMINT-. A great and relatively rare addition to any MF collection. $65.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #111 - BILLY MAY, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN MAMBO / HERNANDO'S HIDEAWAY -- Capitol F2840

The same info that applies to the disc above applies to this recording. However, in this case, MF is on both tracks. Unfortunately, someone wrote "A820" on both labels in red grease pencil. There's just no removing it! Otherwise, the labels are clean and nice. The vinyl has quite a few scuffs and ultra-light scratches. It's EX-. Still, even with the problems, this is a rare and important addition to any MF collection. Yours for $65.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #112 - KAY BROWN WITH MAYNARD FERGUSON, ROSES ALL THE WAY / WOW - Mercury 5863

Here's the rare original 10" 78 RPM recording of two early MF tracks with Kay Brown (his wife at the time) on vocals!! I can't stress to you just how rare these 78s have become. I've looked and looked for them for several years. I did find exactly one copy of this 78 for my personal collection in the back room of an old record store in Dallas last year. Yet I've looked in dozens of stores and all over the internet, in vain for another. This is only the second copy I've ever personally held in my hands. If you're collecting MF 78s, I urge you not to pass this one by. The labels on this copy are very nice, with the only problem being a sort of small oval disturbance at the top of the label on the "Roses" side. It's not bad. I think a sticker may have been there at one time which was carefully removed, and it left a little oval mark. Again, it's minor. The vinyl, on the other hand, isn't too hot. I can't play it because my turntable doesn't play 78s, but based on a visual inspection, it's got lots of scuffs and scratches, and I only feel comfortable rating it as GD -- one full step below VG. It definitely has problems. One good thing is the hand-made sleeve. Our collector friend placed this disc inside a plain, white 10" record sleeve, laser printed a desciptive label which he placed on the front of the sleeve, then had MF sign the label. So there's an autograph, to boot. And ... a little story. When MF saw this home-made cover, he read the laser-printed description. It says, "KAY BROWN with Orchestra directed by Maynard Ferguson." Maynard said to our collector friend, "I never conducted any orchestra with which my wife sang." Interesting. He was apparently saying that he REALLY didn't conduct that orchestra. It just says so on the record label, mainly for publicity purposes. Wow, you learn something all the time in this hobby! OK. All this said, remember that this is an extremely rare 78. Regardless of the condition, it's easily worth the asking price of $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #113 - KAY BROWN WITH MAYNARD FERGUSON,HOMING PIGEON / AND SO I WAITED AROUND - Mercury 5819

Here's the rare original 10" 78 RPM recording of two early MF tracks with Kay Brown (his wife at the time) on vocals!! And this one is a white label "ADVANCE RELEASE" (i.e. promo) copy. Like the disc above, this is an ultra rare MF 78. Again, it's only the second copy I've ever held in my hands, the other one being the one in my personal collection. Just an ultra rare and important piece for any MF collection. The labels on this copy are very clean and nice. On the "Pigeon" side, in oblique lighting only, you can see a rectangular spot where a sticker was removed. But it's really minor, and can't be seen in direct lighting. You probably won't find another copy EVER with labels this nice. The vinyl is actually quite nice. It's somewhere in the VG to VG+ range, with some definite scuffs and light scratches, but should play though fine with no major problems. Again, this is a RARE one! Yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #114 - KAY BROWN WITH MAYNARD FERGUSON,HOMING PIGEON / AND SO I WAITED AROUND - Mercury 5819

Well, now I've held THREE copies of this rare 78 in my hands, because here's another one, just like the one above. I just can't believe our collector friend had two of these. He says he was persistent, and that's the understandment of the year. This one has the same exact white labels as the one above (and the one in my collection, as well). Let me know if you have a normal black label one. I'd like to verify that it exists!!! Anyway, the labels on this one have rectangular discolorations at the top of each side from where someone carefully removed old stickers. There's also a tiny piece of the label missing right above that discoloration on the "Pigeon" side, right on the edge of the label. (Perhaps it came that way from the factory.) The vinyl has quite a few light scuffs and scratches. It's somewhere in the VG- range. But, this one ALSO has an autographed (home-made) sleeve. So that evens the playing field with the copy above. Yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #115 - IKE CARPENTER AND HIS ORCHESTRA, PACHUKO HOP / SANDU - Aladdin 3172

Here's a 10" 78 RPM disc that's a must in every serious MF collection. It's got two tracks, both of which have MF with the Ike Carpenter Orchestra. Depending on which discographical information you check, this was either recorded in 2/52 or 1/53 . Regardless, MF is definitely on both tracks. I can't play 78s on my turntable, but I've heard Pachuko Hop numerous times, and MF literally SCREAMS above the band on this track!!! It's an MF classic. This Aladdin 78 is one of the very rarest 78s with MF. Again, this is only the second copy I've ever held in my hands, the other copy being the one in my personal collection. The labels on this one are very clean and nice, and are completely undamaged. The vinyl has quite a few scuffs and scratches, and will play with a lot of background noise. I'd rate it as VG-. Regardless, this is an ultra RARE disc. Again, if you want completeness, then I'd urge you to pick this one up while you can. It's almost never available. Yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #116 - IKE CARPENTER AND HIS ORCHESTRA, WALKIN' TUNE / TENGARD -Decca 28853

Here's another 10" 78 RPM disc that's a must in every serious MF collection. It's got two tracks, both of which have MF with the Ike Carpenter Orchestra, dating to a recording session in Los Angeles on 8/22/53. MF is definitely on both tracks. Like the 78s immediately above, this is only the second copy I've ever held in my hands, the other copy being the one in my personal collection. The labels on this one are very clean and nice -- nearly impossible to find on these rare 78s. The vinyl has quite a few scuffs and scratches, and will play with a lot of background noise. I'd rate it as only GD -- a full step below VG. Regardless, this is an ultra RARE disc. For the sake of completeness, I'd urge you to pick this one up while you can. It's almost never available. Yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #117 - JAM SESSION -Skylark SK 11 LP

Here's a relatively rare 10" LP, recorded in the early 1950s at The Lighthouse in Hermosa Beach, California. Maynard was jamming with Paul Nero, Paul Smith, Tony Rizzi, etc. The tracks include Sweet Georgia Brown on one side, and Cool Canary Blues on the other. Many of you know that Maynard did a tune with the Kenton Orchestra entitled The Hot Canary, but it may be news to you that he also recorded this tune called Cool Canary Blues. It's a totally different tune. When our collector friend found this disc, the original cover was missing. However, that didn't deter him. He got a plain white sleeve, borrowed an original cover from a friend, had it color photocopied, and then made his own cover that looks just like the original! Of course, this cover has no monetary value, but it sure LOOKS a lot better than those crummy originals! He then got MF to autograph this cover, and to also autograph the record label. (The cover is autographed in black against orange; the labels are autographed in silver against black.) So, the cover is a fake, and has no value except for the nice autograph. The vinyl is original, and the labels are in quite nice shape ... just a little disturbance in the label paper on each side -- very minor. The vinyl is not so hot. There are multiple scuffs and scratches on each side. This one is going to play very, very noisily. It's GD- at best. So it's just a space filler. Regardless, since these normally sell in the 125.00+ range for a VG+ copy, this one, what with the autographs and all, should bring the asking price of just $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #118 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, ONE NIGHT STAND WITH MAYNARD FERGUSON, GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN, MAY 30, 1962 -- Joyce 1112

I recently visited our collector friend to pick up a new batch of items for this sale. He said to me, "Guess what I just bought for my MF collection?" I responded, "What do you mean? You're SELLING your MF collection." He grinned, and said, "Oh, come on. Just guess." Unbelievably, he had found this beautiful copy of the rare Gothenburg, Sweden recording. I guess he just can't stop buying these great LPs, and I sure can't blame him. So … here's ANOTHER of these rare LPs. Cover condition is absolutely outstanding - NMINT+. The vinyl is almost certainly never-played, but there are some light sleeve scuffs on one side. It's still NMINT+, although dealers would call it MINT. Overall, this is a super, NMINT+ copy. Yours for $300.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!

ITEM #119 - GEORGIE AULD, DANCING IN THE LAND OF HI-FI - EmArcy MG-36090

Here's the rarer follow-on LP to Georgie's "In the Land of Hi-Fi" LP. This one also has MF doing some prominent section work and a bit of screaming. The cover has very nice front paper, but the seams are suffering a bit from splitting: 3" at upper right, 2.5" at lower right, and 4.5" at bottom center. There's also a bit of brownish toning visible on the back - mainly around the edges. It's nowhere near as prominent as on most copies, but it's nevertheless visible. I'd rate this cover as EX-. The vinyl is in excellent shape, with just a little light scuffing in a couple of places. It's EX+ to NMINT-. Overall, this copy is in the EX to EX+ range. It's a nice, solid copy of a hard-to-find 1950s LP. $25.00.

ITEM #120 - RUSS GARCIA, FOUR HORNS AND A LUSH LIFE - Bethlehem BCP-46

Here's the hard-to-find album from the mid-50s with MF on one of the four trombone parts. (The others are Frank Rosolino, Herbie Harper, and Tommy Pederson.) This is a GREAT LP!!! I recently listened to the tracks all week long while away on business, and I really enjoyed them! The rendition of Dancing on the Ceiling is one of the best I've ever heard - crisp, swingin'. The cover on this copy (which has a rather famous Burt Goldblatt cover with hundreds of tiny nudes forming the backdrop) is in super shape. The front is near-perfect, the seams are totally intact, and the backing paper, other than just the slightest toning, is in great shape. It's a NMINT cover. The vinyl looks like it's only been played a few times. There are just a few very light scuffs on the surface. It's likewise NMINT- to NMINT. Overall, let's call this one NMINT. A super copy, $35.00.
