MAJOR COLLECTOR SALE #1 -- THIS SALE CLOSED 7/29/05
ITEM #121 - CHARLIE BARNET AND HIS ORCHESTRA, "RHAPSODY IN BARNET" -- Swing Era Records LP-1019
Here's a hard-to-find 1970s Charlie Barnet LP re-issue with MF on two tracks from August, 1949 (Rhapsody in Blue and Cornacopia). The cover on this one would be NMINT- (as the only problems are the words "April 1945" written in TINY letters on the back, and the slighest toning), but it's got the bottom right-hand corner snipped off. Now it's not a typical cut-out item where they hack off a goodly part of the corner. Rather, they just BARELY took off the corner - maybe 3/8" of it. I had to look hard to even see that it was a cut-out. So the cover, rather than a NMINT- rates just an EX. The vinyl appears to be never-played!!! It's a super clean and nice NMINT++ to MINT!!! Overall, let's call this one NMINT-. Due to the slightly cut corner, just $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #122 - CHARLIE BARNET AND HIS ORCHESTRA, SWINGIN' ON NOTHIN' - Big Band Archives LP-1209
Here's another relatively rare Charlie Barnet LP with MF on the track Lullaby of Birdland from 11/54. The cover shows a little light record ring wear, and a bit of brownish toning, just around the edges. It's still a quite nice cover - EX++ to NMINT-. The vinyl looks like it might have been played once on side 1, but never on side 2 (which is the side with the MF track). It's NMINT+!!! Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. Just a GREAT copy. $30.00.
THIS ITEM FAILED TO SELL.
ITEM #123 - ELMER BERNSTEIN, BLUES & BRASS -- Decca DL 8686
Here's a very hard LP to find! Elmer Bernstein took a lot of the great studio players in Los Angeles and put together this great jazz album. MF is credited two different places on the cover. The cover on this copy is in great condition - NMINT-, with no notable problems except some slight surface wear and a neatly rubber-stamped name and address of a previous owner on the back. The vinyl is in GREAT condition. It's NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #124 - CLIFFORD BROWN ALL STARS, JAMS 2 (JAPANESE RELEASE) - EmArcy (Nippon Phonogram) 195J-2
Here's more of the Jam Session tracks from 8/14/54 with Clifford Brown, Maynard, and Clark Terry. It includes the announcer's introduction of the jam session from that night, as well as MF blowing away on I'll Remember April and Coronado. Some of the best music ever recorded by MF. The cover on this copy is still in the original shrink wrap. It's open at top, but looks like it was never removed from the shrink, and indeed, I can't get it to come out without tearing the shrink, so I'm leaving it alone. It still retains the original obi strip, which is another indication that it's never-opened. Looks like we have a MINT condition copy here. $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #125 - STAN KENTON, ONE NIGHT STAND WITH STAN KENTON IN 1950, CAVALCADE OF BANDS -- Joyce LP-1060
Here's the extremely hard-to-find LP with MF on 8 tracks from 12/19/50. Here's also visible on the cover, playing at the end of the top row (the trumpet section, of course). The cover on this copy is clean and nice, with no seam splits. However, there are many tiny dots of brownish "foxing" on the cover, mainly on the front. Thus, rather than NMINT, I can only rate this cover as EX. The vinyl is just superb - possibly played just once. It's a super clean and nice NMINT++. Overall, this copy is in the NMINT- range. And … it's nicely autographed on the front by MF. Normally selling for $65.00 or more, this copy (due to the cover foxing) is just $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #126 - CLIFFORD BROWN, JAM SESSION (JAPANESE RELEASE) - Nippon Phonogram (EmArcy) EXPR-1012
This is the Japanese re-issue of the original U.S. LP from 1954 called "Jam Session" on EmArcy (MG-36002). Of course, this Japanese vinyl is just outstanding, and actually sounds much better than the original. The cover on this one has just the faintest hint of some ring wear visible, and there are tiny little creases in each of the corners. I'd rate it as NMINT- to NMINT. The vinyl appears to be an absolutely PRISTINE copy in NEVER-PLAYED condition. It's MINT. Overall, this one is NMINT to NMINT+. And … it's beautifully autographed on the front by Maynard. Just a super copy! $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #127 - CHARLIE BARNET, REDSKIN ROMP (SPANISH RELEASE) - Fresh Sound Records NL-45977
Here's the relatively rare 1972 Spanish re-issue of the great 1954 Charlie Barnet Redskin Romp LP. The cover artwork on these was by Jim Flora, and he did an outstanding (albeit politically incorrect by today's standards) job. The cover on this one is just about perfect - NMINT+. The vinyl is in PRISTINE, NEVER PLAYED MINT condition!!! This copy is NMINT+++ overall. $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #128 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, TWO'S COMPANY (SPANISH RELEASE) - Fresh Sound Records R 52068
This is the Spanish 1980s re-issue of the Roulette Two's Company album. The cover on this one is almost like brand new - NMINT+!!! The vinyl is MINT, never-played. Just a SUPER copy. And … MF autographed it on the front. What more could you want? Yours for $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #129 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, SWINGIN' MY WAY THROUGH COLLEGE - Roulette SR 25058
Here's the original Roulette STEREO version of this great dance LP. The condition of this copy is outstanding. The cover has the very slightest bend in the upper right-hand corner, and just the faintest wear on the lower seam, but it's still easily NMINT, tending toward NMINT+!!! The vinyl is, unbelievably, MINT, never played. (YES … this is the ORIGINAL ROULETTE STEREO VERSION, WITH THE ORIGINAL WHITE "SPOKES" LABEL!!!!!) Hard to believe that this one could exist in this superb condition after more than 40 years. It's NMINT+++!!! And of course, our collector got this gem autographed by MF!!! $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #130 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, STRATOSPHERIC - Mercury EMS-2-406
Here's the wonderful Mercury re-issue double gatefold LP from 1976. (It's hard to believe that these great re-issues are already 25 years old!) The cover on this one is an ultra clean and nice NMINT+. The vinyl is MINT, never-played. Overall, this copy is a pristine NMINT+++!!! And … it's beautifully autographed by MF on the front cover. Just an absolute gem! $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #131 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, NEW VINTAGE -- Columbia JC 34971
Here's the relatively common Columbia LP, but it's in uncommon condition. The cover, which is black, normally has very bad record ring wear. This copy has only very, very light surface and edge wear. It's in NMINT condition. The vinyl is MINT, never-played!!! The disc is still in the original custom inner sleeve, and there's a Columbia advertising insert still inside the cover, as well. Lastly, MF signed the cover beautifully in silver ink against the black background. Next to the silver horn and ice bucket, it's stunning! Recall that Maynard feels this is his best-executed cover! Yours for $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #132 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE NEW SOUNDS OF MAYNARD FERGUSON - Cameo SC-1046
This is the STEREO version of the great Cameo LP with MF and the band on Take the 'A' Train, etc. One of his best efforts! The front cover is pristine! The seams are all perfectly intact, and the backing paper shows just a little wear. However, the very tip of the backing paper at bottom left (as viewed from the back) is torn away. Too bad, as it's the only real flaw. It's still a NMINT- cover. The vinyl is MINT, never played. Overall, it's in NMINT to NMINT+ condition. And this one has a great story associated with it, as well. MF was sitting down getting ready to autograph the cover. He was telling our friend about the Great Dane that's pictured on the cover. He even remembered the name of the dog. Our friend said, "Hey, Maynard, why don't you write the dog's name underneath his picture." Maynard got distracted for a second by something, then sort of half-remembered the request, and signed "Maynard Ferguson" just underneath the dog!!!!! Our friend said, "Oh, no. I wanted you to write the dog's name there," and he and Maynard had a good laugh about it. Then Maynard said, "Well, I'll sign it at the top, too," and he did. So this one has TWO autographs on the front - one at top left, and one at bottom right. What a great story, and what a super copy of this great LP!!! $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #133 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, A MESSAGE FROM BIRDLAND -- Roulette SR 52027
Here's the original, first pressing recording of the great MF Message from Birdland recording. It's got the original white "spoked" label. The cover is quite clean and nice, with just a couple of very minor creases along the top seam. It's NMINT. The vinyl is quite nice, as well - easily NMINT. And it's autographed by MF on the front cover. A very nice copy, $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #134 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, 1969 - Prestige 7636
This is the great album from May 1969, recorded in Europe with the orchestra of Rolf-Hans Mueller, with MF on the tracks Almost Like Being in Love, Knarf, Ole, Dancing Nitely, etc. It's MUCH rarer than its re-issued counterpart, Trumpet Rhapsody (although Trumpet Rhapsody is now becoming very hard to find, too). The cover on this one is really clean and nice from the front, with just a couple of tiny corner bends visible. On the back, there's quite a bit of brownish discoloration along the opening slit. It's possibly from a bit of moisture at one time or other. Otherwise, the cover is just super clean and nice. It's still NMINT-. The vinyl appears to be never-played, but our collector didn't note this on the sleeve, so I'll be conservative and call it NMINT++. Overall, this copy is NMINT to NMINT+. Just a great copy! And … it's autographed very nicely in a rather flowing style by Maynard in black marker. Yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #135 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD '64 -- Roulette SR 52107
Here's the relatively hard-to-find MF '64 LP in STEREO. The cover on this one has a bit of record ring wear, a very minor bend on the extreme tip of the bottom right-hand corner, some definite edge wear, and, on the back, a small triangular piece torn off the cover paper in the bottom left-hand corner. Still, overall, it's a solid and nice looking cover - EX. The vinyl is really nice! NMINT. Overall, this copy is EX++. And, it's nicely autographed on the front by Maynard. Yours for $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #136 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD '63 - Roulette R 52090
Here's the Maynard '63 LP in MONO. The cover on this one has a bit of surface/ring wear, three very minor corner bends at the very tips of the corners, and a bit of edge wear. It's EX to EX+. The vinyl has never been played. It's MINT!!! Overall, this copy is NMINT-. And … it's nicely autographed on the front by MF. Yours for $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #137 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD '62 - Roulette SR 52083
This one's the STEREO version of the great MF '62. The cover on this one has some definite record ring and surface wear, but it's not too bad. There's an original price sticker on the back. I'd rate this cover as EX. The vinyl is really, really nice - perhaps never played. It's NMINT+. Overall, this one is NMINT-. And … it's autographed by MF nicely on the front. $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #138 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, M.F. HORN 3 - Columbia PC 32403
Here's the great Horn 3 LP. The cover has a tiny piece of transparent tape in the upper left-hand corner. But that's the only problem. The cover is really clean and nice - NMINT. The vinyl is never played. Our friend unwrapped it from the shrink, had Maynard sign it, and put it back in a plastic sleeve, so it was never played. (He said he thought he put that small piece of tape on it to repair a small factory defect on the spine in the corner.) So it's NMINT+ overall, with just the one tiny flaw, and a beautiful black autograph on the front cover. $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #139 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD FERGUSON'S GREATEST HITS (JAPANESE PRESSING) - CBS/Sony 25AP2026
Here's the great Japanese "Greatest Hits" LP. It has a unique cover picturing a white bridge with red, yellow, and blue geometric shapes sitting on top of the bridge infrastructure. It's a wonderfully designed, very colorful cover. This one was removed from the shrink wrap, was autographed in white marker on the front (an excellent choice), and was returned to a plastic record sleeve. The cover is NMINT+, and the vinyl is MINT. Just splendid. It retains its original paper "obi" strip, and is just immaculate! Yours for $85.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #140 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MESSAGE FROM MAYNARD - Roulette SR 52101
Most of you know by now that this is my favorite MF album. It's just sensational - barn burning up tempo bebop charts, and enchanting, moody ballads. And Maynard absolutely SCREAMING on a number of passages. It's absolutely the most tasteful LP he ever made, in my humble opinion. (Sure, I love the jazz rock early Columbia stuff, too, but this one is just unbeatable!) The cover on this copy is nearly flawless. The front looks superb. There's a tiny bit of seam wear, mainly on the bottom seam, and on the back, a tiny tear on the backing paper in the bottom left-hand corner. Still, they are seldom this clean and nice. It's easily NMINT. The vinyl is never played - MINT condition!!! Overall, this one is NMINT+!!! Just a fantastic copy of this superb LP. And … it's got Maynard's autograph perfectly placed at top center on the front in silver marker. If I could only own ONE MF recording, this would be the one. This splendid copy is yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #141 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, PEOPLE / MACARENA -- Mainstream 603
Here's a relatively rare little 45 RPM 7" single of two tracks from the Mainstream era. This one is a white label promo copy. The labels have "SS" and a boxed "M" written on one side, and a boxed "F" on the other side. Otherwise, they're clean and nice. The vinyl is EX+. And … Maynard autographed the label on the "People" side of this disc. A hard-to-find, autographed copy … yours for $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #142 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, BLUES FOR A FOUR STRING GUITAR / GROOVE - Mainstream C-275
Here's another hard-to-find little 7" 45 from the 1960s. This one is a white label D.J. version. Someone wrote "OK" on the Blues side and "GOOD" on the Groove side. Both bits of writing are small and light. Otherwise, the labels are very clean and nice. The vinyl is EX+ to NMINT-. A nice, clean copy. And MF autographed this one on the Groove side. Yours for $25.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #143 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, LONELY TOWN / THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT -- EmArcy 16002x45
This one is a hard-to-find EmArcy 45 of two tracks from the Dimensions LP. The labels on this one are practically like new, with no writing or damage of any kind. Maynard applied a personalized autograph (TO XXX / MAYNARD FERGUSON) on the Lonely Town side of the label, in silver ink against the blue background. It looks great! The vinyl is EX. Overall, this is a nice one, priced at $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #144 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, HIP TWIST / MARIA -- Roulette R-4421
Here's one I seldom see. It's a Roulette 7" 45 RPM disc from the late 1950s. The labels each have two red lines drawn through them with a wax pencil or marker. There's just no removing them. Otherwise, the labels are relatively clean and nice. The vinyl has quite a few light scratches and scuffs, and plays with quite a bit of background noise. It's just average - VG. But Maynard autographed this one in silver ink on the Maria side, and it's quite a rare little gem. Yours for $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #145 - MAYNARD FERGUSON,THE HOT CANARY / WHAT'S NEW? -- Capitol 6F-1713
This is perhaps the most desirable of all the MF 45s, because it's got the flaming chart "Hot Canary" on it, and it's a very early release!
This one is missing the original picture cover (or else it would be priced way over $100.00). It comes in just a generic sleeve.
The labels are clean and nice, with the only problem being a tiny scrape at the top of the label on the What's New side.
The vinyl has definitely been played a number of times. There are numerous scuffs and very light surface scratches which translate to some
definite noise on playback. It's in the VG to VG+ range. What's nice about this one, however, is the beautiful silver MF autograph at the top
of the label on the Hot Canary side. This one is absolutely suitable for framing! $30.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #146 - MAYNARD FERGUSON / DOIN' THE MADISON PART 1 / PART 2 - Roulette R-4250
Here's MF on one of his great dance tracks from the late 1950s. The label on this copy is the one with the factory printed "DISK JOCKEY / NOT FOR SALE" on it. (It also comes without this printing.) The labels are clean and nice, with none of the typical writing or other damage. The vinyl rates a NMINT-. Just a wonderful copy! Yours for $50.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #147 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MACARTHUR PARK / ELI'S COMIN' - Columbia 4-45352
This is the great 45 RPM version of two tracks from MF Horn. It's a relatively rare disc. This one is the normal RED LABEL version. The labels are like new! The vinyl is NMINT! Just a great little copy. $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #148 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MACARTHUR PARK / ELI'S COMIN' - Columbia 4-45352
This is the great 45 RPM version of two tracks from MF Horn. It's a relatively rare disc. This one is the BLUE LABEL promo version. The labels are like new! The vinyl is NMINT! Just a super copy of this relatively rare 45. $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #149 - JOHNNY PARKER WITH ORCHESTRA CONDUCTED BY PETE RUGOLO, CAN'T SEEM TO LAUGH ANYMORE / NEVER AGAIN - Capitol F1162
Have a look at the back of your Fresh Sound LP called "Way to the West." Do you see on there where it lists these two tracks? Maynard is definitely on both of them. Both tracks were recorded on 5/26/50 at MGM Studios in New York City. This is a VERY hard 45 to find. The labels on this one are super clean and nice. The vinyl on the Never Again side has a number of very light surface scratches. It rates on EX-. On the other side, the vinyl is EX++. A super hard one to find -- $95.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #150 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, HOLLYWOOD PARTY - EmArcy MG-36046
Here's the original MONO EmArcy Hollywood Party LP from the mid-'50s. It's the second pressing, with the silver on blue Mercury label (not the silver on blue EmArcy "drummer" label). The cover has a 1" seam split at upper right. Otherwise, it's in GREAT condition. It's NMINT-. The vinyl is NMINT on side B, but there are two parallel scratches on side A that cause some "clicks" (but not skips) when played. Due to this flaw, an otherwise NMINT disc is just EX. And, it's autographed nicely in white ink on the front (black) cover by MF. It looks GREAT! Normally selling in the $60.00 range, due to the scratches, this one is priced at only $35.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #151 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, HOLLYWOOD PARTY (JAPANESE RELEASE) - Nippon Phonogram 195J-10087
Please pay CLOSE ATTENTION to this description. There are MORE THAN ONE Japanese release of this disc.
This is THE RAREST. This is the one that has not only the two tracks that are on the U.S. release of Hollywood Party
(and all of the other Japanese releases), it ALSO has an alternate take of the track "Night Letter".
Collectors call this the "Hollwood Party + 1" LP due to this extra track being placed on the disc. It's very, very RARE, even in Japan.
This one was taken out of the original shrink wrap, was autographed by MF two times on the front (once in black against white,
and once in white against black), then was placed in a protective sleeve where it's remained all these years. Both the cover and vinyl are in MINT
condition!!! So, it's RARE, it's PRISTINE, and it's AUTOGRAPHED. The best of the best!!! $135.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #152 - BEN WEBSTER, THE BIG TENOR - EmArcy 824 836-1
This is a 1985 double gatefold compilation LP of Ben Webster tunes from the EmArcy years. Included are the four tracks that he recorded with Tiger Brown (Maynard) back in the early 1950s. Also included are ALTERNATE TAKES of those tracks, as well. There are three takes of Randle's Island, three of Old Folks, one of King's Riff, and three of You're My Thrill. An absolutely essential LP for all MF fanatics. The cover on this one is almost perfect. There's just the faintest hint of the very beginnings of some ring wear visible on the front cover. Still, I'm going to go out on a limb and call it NMINT+. It's just ultra clean and nice. The vinyl is MINT - never played. It's just an absolutely pristine NMINT++ copy overall. Yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #153 - JACK MILLMAN, JAZZ STUDIO 4 -- Decca DL 8156
This is a great LP from the mid-50s. MF played on this LP as "Tiger Brown" (since he was under contract with another label,
and couldn't use his real name). The front paper on this one is quite clean and nice, with no real problems.
There's a minor 2" seam split at upper right, and a small seam crack in the upper left-hand corner. There's a 1" rubbed spot on the bottom
seam at the right edge. On the back, there's some brownish toning in spots. From the front, it looks great, but due to the small flaws, it only rates an EX-.
The vinyl is quite nice - NMINT. Overall, it rates an EX+. So far, so good. Now it REALLY gets good. MF autographed it on the front
as follows: 'Maynard Ferguson / Alias "Tiger Brown"!' Wow! That's a hard autograph to get, I'll tell you.
Then, he looked at the cover at bottom right. Now bear with me, because this is complicated to explain.
It says, "Jack Montrose & Lin Halliday, Tenor Saxes; Bob Gordon & Ray Vasquez, Baritone Saxes."
Now Maynard misread this line. He thought it was saying that Bob Gordon was playing Tenor Sax.
(He obviously missed the placement of the semi-colon just before Bob Gordon's name.) He said to our collector
friend, "That's not right. Gordon was playing Baritone Sax." He then crossed off the word "Tenor" and wrote "Bari" above it,
and drew an arrow from the word "Bari" to Bob Gordon's name. Now he did all this using the same pen that he had just used to
autograph the cover, so it's obvious that it was Maynard who did this! Had he taken the time to read the cover correctly,
he would have seen that indeed it listed Bob Gordon as playing Baritone Sax. Anyway, another GREAT STORY for you
Maynard freaks, and it makes this a fantastic LP!!! Yours for $55.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #154 - PATTI PAGE WITH THE PETE RUGOLO ALL STARS, IN THE LAND OF HI-FI -- Mercury SR-80000
Have a look back at lot #7. It's the same LP as this one, except it's the yellow-background cover MONO EmArcy version, and this is the later black-background cover Mercury STEREO version. The same story I told for #7 applies to this LP. It was autographed for our collector friend by Page on the night of March 5, 2000, and she told him at that time that Maynard was DEFINITELY playing on this LP. A copy of the program from the March 5 concert will be included with this LP, and the LP cover is autographed "Thanks / Patti Page" on the front in purple ink - a fitting color for this cover. The cover on this one is almost like new - NMINT+. It's ultra clean and nice. The vinyl looks like it's been played just a couple of times. It's easily NMINT, tending to NMINT+. Overall, this copy is NMINT+. A beauty, and with the program included and the nice autograph, a real piece of history. $45.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #155 - VARIOUS ARTISTS, THE JAZZ GIANTS - VOL. 3, 1952 -- Trip Jazz TLP-5555
The is the 1970s Trip Jazz re-issue of the EmArcy MG-36050 LP from the 1950s. It includes MF with Ben Webster on the tracks Randall's Island and King's Riff, both of which were originally on the Big Tenor LP, and were recorded on 12/27/51. The cover on this copy is a clean and nice NMINT. The vinyl is NMINT+. Just a super, NMINT to NMINT+ copy. $20.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #156 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, TRUMPET RHAPSODY - BASF MPS MB 20662
This is the 1973 re-issue of the MAYNARD 1969 LP. The cover on this one looks almost like new. It's a pristine NMINT+.
The vinyl has been played a few times, but it's still a clean and nice NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT to NMINT+.
And it's beautifully autographed on the front in silver ink by MF against the teal blue background. It looks STUNNING! Yours for $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #157 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, TRUMPET RHAPSODY - PAUSA 7037
This LP has the same tracks as the one directly above, but it's on a different label, with different cover art. This one has a brown background, and MF is sitting cross-legged in a brown corduroy suit. This one was removed from the shrink wrap, signed by MF very nicely on the front, and then placed in a protective sleeve. It's pristine. The cover in NMINT+, and the vinyl is MINT, never played. An absolutely superb copy of a relatively rare LP. $55.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #158 - CHARLIE BARNET AND WOODY HERMAN, BARNET VS. HERMAN, ONE NIGHT STAND - Joyce 1012
This was a "battle of the bands" LP, Barnet vs. Herman, recorded live at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Balboa, California on July 30, 1949. MF was in the Barnet band that night. The cover on this copy has little wrinkles in all four corners, but they're all minor. It's still a NMINT cover. The vinyl is MINT, never played!!! Overall, this copy is NMINT+. And … it's nicely autographed by MF on the front in black ink against the white background. $37.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #159 - MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD FERGUSON PLAYS JAZZ FOR DANCING (SPANISH RELEASE) - Fresh Sound Records (S)R-52038
Here's the 1986 Spanish re-issue of the Roulette Jazz for Dancing LP. It looks just like the original. This one was removed from the shrink wrap for Maynard to autograph, then was placed in a plastic protective sleeve. It's in MINT condition!!! $40.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
ITEM #160 - MAYNARD FERGUSON AND GUSTAV BROM, MAYNARD & GUSTAV - Amiga Jazz 8 55 558
Folks, this is NOT the relatively common yellow-cover Supraphon version of this great LP. Rather, it's the East German Amiga version - what many of us call the "graffiti" cover, because it looks like someone spray-painted a wall with the words "MAYNARD FERGUSON / GUSTAV BROM". In my experience, it's about five times as rare as the Supraphon version. The covers on these are quite thin, so like most copies, this one has a few minor bends. Still, it's a clean and nice cover, rating a NMINT-. The vinyl has a few ultra fine surface scratches visible, but they don't significantly affect play. It's easily EX+. Overall, this copy is EX++. And … it's beautifully autographed by MF on the front. One collector I know told me MF wouldn't autograph one of these for him. He said he never received a royalty check for either the Supraphon version or this Amiga version, so he declined to sign it. But our ever-persistent collector friend did score a very nice autograph on the front cover of this one. A very nice, RARE, autographed copy. $85.00.
SORRY, SOLD!!!
