78 RPM Records

MAYNARD FERGUSON, LOVE LOCKED OUT / BAND AIN'T DRAGGIN' – Capitol 1269

Here's one of Maynard's first recordings under his own name. These tracks were recorded 9/12 - 9/13/50. An absolute must in every serious MF collection. Very hard to find in this original media, and highly sought-after by MF collectors.
COPY #1. Here's a WHITE LABEL PROMO VERSION of this hard-to-find 78. It's only the second one I've ever seen. (The other is in my personal collection.) Both labels on this one have had a small sticker applied to them and have a piece of yellowed Scotch tape on top of the stickers. Otherwise, they're nice labels, but the yellowed tape definitely detracts from the condition. The disc is quite nice -- EX++. Due to the yellowed tape, you can have this otherwise rare 78 for just $15.00.
COPY #2. This copy has the NORMAL PURPLE LABELS, and the labels are super clean and nice. The disc, on the other hand, has significant scuffs and light scratches. It's just GD. Bargain priced at just $12.00.
COPY #3. This copy is a WHITE LABEL PROMO VERSION (the third one I've seen). The labels are relatively clean and nice with no damage. The disc itself is GD+ to VG- with quite a few surface scuffs and very light scratches. Bargain priced at just $12.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE HOT CANARY / WHAT'S NEW? – Capitol 7-1713

On 5/31/51, MF laid down these two tracks with the Stan Kenton Orchestra. This is one of the earliest recordings by MF, and these are two of his most sought-after tunes, due to the stratospheric playing, multi-octave jumps, etc. It's especially hard-to-find in this 78 RPM format, and nice copies will sell in the $40.00+ range.
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

KAY BROWN WITH ORCHESTRA DIRECTED BY MAYNARD FERGUSON, AND SO I WAITED AROUND / HOMING PIGEON – Mercury 5819

On 2/25/52, Maynard entered the studio with his then-wife Kay Brown to record the tracks seen on this 78. If you're a serious MF collector, and I have one of these in stock, I would urge you to pick it up! They're quite hard to find.
COPY #1. Just in, the labels on this one are white promo-type labels, and they have the words "ADVANCE RELEASE" printed on them. RARE!!! The labels are clean and nice except for the number "5042" written on each side in fine blue ink. The disc itself is EX. A nice, clean copy of this rare and desirable 78. It's $30.00. SORRY! THIS COPY RESERVED FOR A COLLECTOR, 5/19/24.

KAY BROWN WITH ORCHESTRA DIRECTED BY MAYNARD FERGUSON, WOW / ROSES ALL THE WAY – Mercury 5863

On 2/25/52, Maynard entered the studio with his then-wife Kay Brown to record the tracks seen on this 78. If you're a serious MF collector, and I have one of these in stock, I would urge you to pick it up! They're quite hard to find.
COPY #1. Just in, the labels on this one are clean and nice except someone wrote "MFT", "180-U", and the track timing on each label in white ink (against the black background). The disc on this copy is flexible vinyl, not the usual rigid acetate. The disc itself rates an EX. Overall, this is a nice, solid copy, and it's $25.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, LONELY TOWN / THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT-- EmArcy 16002

Here's one of the early EmArcy 78s with MF on two tracks from the Dimensions LP. These EmArcy 78s are very, very hard to find. I seldom see one.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW / ALL GOD'S CHILDREN GOT RHYTHM -- EmArcy 16013

Here's one of the early EmArcy 78s with MF on two tracks from the Dimensions LP. These EmArcy 78s are very, very hard to find. I seldom see one.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, FINGER SNAPPIN' / AUTUMN LEAVES -- Mercury 70686

Here's a very rare MF 78. These two tracks are from the MF Octet era, and these were some of the last 78s ever pressed. Very few were pressed, apparently, as most people were buying 45s and LPs by the time this was issued. Thus, this is one of the rarest of MF discs. And it comes in two different distinguishable flavors. The name "MAYNARD FERGUSON" on label type #1 is 27mm long. On type #2, it's 34mm long. They look distinctively different. Hey, if you're like me, you have to have BOTH, right? (SMILE).
