This great CD was released in 2007 and it includes many of Maynard's tracks from the late 1940s well into the 1950s. It starts off with MF playing in the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra on the tracks Diz Duz Everything and Body and Soul. Next is All the Things You Are with the Charlie Barnet Orchestra. Then we hear him fronting what was essentially the Kenton Orchestra on the tracks Band Ain't Draggin', Short Wave, Love Locked Out, and Take the "A" Train (9/13/50). Next are What's New? and The Hot Canary (5/31/51). Then he's with Ben Webster on King's Riff. The come 13 more tracks with his own 1950s era band. Great, GREAT stuff!!! MAYNARD FERGUSON, HIS ORCHESTRA AND OCTET, 1950-1954: BAND AIN'T DRAGGIN' (SPANISH RELEASE) -- Fresh Sound Records Jazz City Series FSR-2204

This great CD was released in 2005 and it includes many of Maynard's tracks from the early 1950s. It starts off with MF fronting what was essentially the Kenton Orchestra on the tracks Band Ain't Draggin', Short Wave, Love Locked Out, and Take the "A" Train (9/13/50). Next are What's New? and The Hot Canary (5/31/51), Roses all the Way, And So I Waited Around, Homing Pidgeon, and Wow! (2/25/52), then finishes off with Thou Swell, The Way You Look Tonight, All God's Chillun Got Rhythym, Willie Nillie, Hymn to Her, Lonely Town, and Over the Rainbow (2/19/54). Great, GREAT stuff!!! And a bit of trivia for you. Throughout the 8-page booklet that comes with the CD are pictures of the original 78 RPM record labels for many of these tunes, as well as an image of the 7" picture cover from the Hot Canary 45. I'm honored to say that those images are of the items in my personal collection, which I was quite happy to provide to Jordi Pujol of Fresh Sound to be included with this release. I absolutely LOVE this collection of early MF material!!!

VARIOUS ARTISTS, WEST COAST JAZZ (UK RELEASE) -- Castle Pulse PDSCD 632

This great 2-CD set was released in 2005 and it includes MF on the track Short Wave from 9/13/50. Also included are the Shorty Rogers tracks Sweetheart of Sigmund Freud (3/26/53) and Coop de Graas (4/2/53), both with MF. And, of course, there are many other great jazz tracks from the best of the best players.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, SAY IT WITH TRUMPETS -- Musica Jazz MJCD 1185

In November, 2006, the Italian Jazz Magazine Musica Jazz had a great article on Maynard. Shrink wrapped with the magazine was a CD which was sort of a "Maynard Ferguson's Greatest Hits of All Time" CD called Say It With Trumpets. This CD has virtually all of the GREAT, GREAT stuff MF did in his early years with Charlie Barnet, Stan Kenton, Pete Rugolo, and Maynard's own band. It includes the tracks Maynard Ferguson, The Wailing Boat, What's New, Brazil, Somebody Wants Me Down There, The Hot Canary, Great Guns, Invention for Guitar and Trumpet, An Orchestra, Blues in Burlesque, That Jones Boy, Jingle Bells Mambo, Lady Bug, Say it With Trumpets, Straight Up, and All the Things You Are. It also includes a version of the tune Maynard Ferguson by Italian trumpeter Andrea Tofanelli. Total playing time on this long and superb CD is 72:08. Rare, rare, rare!!!!!! Grab one while you can.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, COMPACT JAZZ (JAPANESE RELEASE) -- Mercury EJD-1016

This is one of the rarest CDs of Maynard's material every produced. I have only seen maybe 6 copies, total, in the past 15 years. Were 300 pressed? Maybe 500? I can't imagine any more than that exist. It's a long-out-of-print 1989 Japanese compilation CD of tunes from the early years, and includes Maiden Voyage, The Way You Look Tonight, All God's Chillun Got Rhythm (2/19/54), Lonely Town, Over the Rainbow (2/23/54), I Have but Two Horns, Inter-Space, 20 Rue de Madrid (4/25/55), Yeah, Egad Martha, Slow Stroll (8/26/55), C'est La Blues, Wildman (11/7/55), Dancing Nitely, Ain't Life Grand (11/10/55), and Never You Mind (5/12/56). They come with both an English and Japanese insert, and the artwork on the CD is unique to this particular issue. INCREDIBLY RARE, and a must for the most serious collectors. I have seen a copy sell on-line for over $400.00.

The next day, 2/23/54, a modified group laid down the tracks Love is Here to Stay and Air Conditioned, and those tracks became the Jam Session LP. This CD includes all four tracks! To my knowledge, this 2005 Spanish CD is the first time that Hollywood Party has shown up on CD -- and you get Jam Session, to boot!

During 2002, Mercury Japan issued this copy of the old Jam Session LP in a mini-LP style cardboard CD case. The printing must have been extremely small, because they were sold out on all the major CD sites in no time at all. It contains both the original tunes from the original 1954 LP: Air Conditioned, and Our Love is Here to Stay. These tracks were recorded in Hollywood on 2/23/54.

Here's a great Verve CD, issued in 2008, with all the tracks from the original Octet LP. It was recorded 4/25 and 4/27/55 at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles. Tracks include Finger-Snappin', My New Flame, Autumn Leaves, Inter-Space, 20 Rue de Madrid, Super-G, What Was her Name?, and Yeah. These are some of the best tracks Maynard ever recorded, and the band absolutely swings!

Here's a relatively rare 1999 various artists 2-CD set that's an important addition to any MF collection. Maynard played frequently over the years at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, and for the 40th anniversary of the club, Verve put out this compilation CD of many of the artists that played on Scott's stage over the years. Maynard is represented on the tune Maiden Voyage from 2/19/54. These are very, very hard to find, especially here in the U.S.

This is a PolyGram UK compilation CD from 1997. It has 18 tracks featuring some great trumpet players, such as Maynard, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong, Harry James, Diz, Miles, etc. Track 12 is Maynard's Hymn to Her from the Dimensions LP. This one is now out of print, and near-impossible to find, both here and in the UK.

This is an RCA compilation CD from 1998. It has cover art by the great caricaturist Al Hirschfeld. (He always puts his daughter Nina's name somewhere in each drawing -- looks like in Benny Goodman's hair on this cover.) There are 17 tracks from some of the greatest Big Bands, such as Glenn Miller (American Patrol), Duke Ellington (It Don't Mean a Thing), Artie Shaw (Begin the Beguine), etc. And of course, it wouldn't be listed here unless it contained MF -- track 13 is The Wailing Boat from his Mercury recording days. Overall, a super little CD, with some real jazz history, great cover art, and of course, great entertainment.

Here's a long out-of-print CD from 1989 with 16 tracks by various artists. Included is MF on the track Roamin' Showman. Great Big Band jazz, and of course, this is one of MF's most popular tunes from the Mercury era. And this one is the German version. Very, very hard to find!

Most of you have seen or heard of the 4-LP boxed set with this title. But this is the 4-CD version. It's MUCH, MUCH RARER than the LP set. It comes in a quadruple CD case, with a really great little 34-page booklet, written in both English and Japanese. Pressed in 1984, this set is LONG out-of-print, and almost impossible to find anymore!

Several years ago RCA put out a 5-CD boxed set with all the great jazz artists fromt the 1920s through the 1960s. Maynard wound up on this set with his great track The Wailing Boat, and also with Shorty Rogers on the track Chiquito Loco. These originally sold for about $75.00, and are now long out-of-print. Great, great jazz. I like to listen to these discs in the car, as everything is top notch!

This is the out-of-print Maynard Ferguson CD from 1987, and it's the Austrian version. It differs significantly from the U.S. version, in that there is an extra flap on the front booklet that overlaps the cover partially with a yellow cloud-like graphic. This makes it look totally different than the U.S. version, and makes it a significant variety. The graphics on the CD itself are also significantly different. Like the U.S. version, it includes 18 tracks from the Birdland Dreamband albums that were issued on the Vik label in the mid '50s. And this Austrian version is perhaps 20 times as rare as the U.S. version.

Here's the 2003 French Maynard Ferguson 2-CD box set which includes the 12 tracks from the Birdland Dreamband Vik LPs, both Volume 1 and Volume 2, including alternate takes. In total, this is the complete 37 tracks recorded for that Vik session. If you're a completist collector, this one is for you.

Released in 2002, here's MF on a Birdland Dream Band CD from Russia. It's apparently the Russian version of the French CD that has the original RCA tracks plus 9 bonus tracks. They don't seal these at the factory.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, A MESSAGE FROM NEWPORT -- Roulette RCD 59024

Back in 1985, Roulette had the Japanese firm Nippon Columbia press this CD for them. As far as I know, it only sold in the U.S. It's now long out of print, and very, very hard to come by. The CD cover has the same photo as the original 1958 LP. Tracks listed on the cover and the disc include The Fugue, Fan It Janet, The Waltz, And We Listened, Tag Team, Slide's Derangement, Humbug, Frame for the Blues, and Three Little Foxes. Back in 1985, Roulette had the Japanese firm Nippon Columbia press this CD for them. As far as I know, it only sold in the U.S. But at the same time, they had Nippon Columbia press an Italian version of this CD, and as far as I know, it only sold in Italy. It was released by Carosello Records. This is the Italian Version. The CD cover has the same photo as the original 1958 LP. There are 7 tracks listed on the back cover Fan It Janet, The Waltz, And We Listened, Tag Team, Slide's Derangement, Frame for the Blues, and Three Little Foxes, and those 7 tracks are the only tracks on the CD. The Fugue and Humbug are not on the CD, just like they were not on the original Roulette Stereo LP. BUT ... they ARE listed on the disc itself, except that they misspelled "Fugue" as "Fudge." This is a Canadian compilation CD from 1995, now out of print, with the MF track It Might as Well Be Spring (3/31/59), recorded in NYC. It also has the track Something Cool with MF backing June Christy from 8/14/53. I very seldom see one of these anymore. They're very hard to find.

STAN KENTON, A MERRY CHRISTMAS -- Capitol Jazz 7243 5 84646 2 7

I struggled with whether to list this on the Kenton CD page or the Maynard Ferguson CD page. The first 12 tracks are the Kenton Orchestra, and this is a 2003 re-issue of an earlier CD that only had the 12 tracks, and 11 of those those 12 tracks came from a 1961 LP with this same title; the 12th comes from a 1963 Capitol single. But this CD has a bonus 13th track, and that track is Maynard's recording for Roulette from the late 1950s of Christmas for Moderns. It's a medley of the tunes The First Noel, White Christmas, O Come All Ye Faithful, The Christmas Song, Silent Night, and Jingle Bells. It's interesting that they decided to tack this Maynard Ferguson Band medley on the end of a Kenton CD, but I'm glad they did. Maynard and his guys WAIL through this medley. And the 12 Kenton tracks are absolutely brilliant! They positively SWING! You won't be disappointed with this CD. It's one our family listens to over and over every holiday season. They appear to be out of print now, and are quite hard to find.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, THE SULLIVAN YEARS, BIG BAND ALL-STARS VOLUME 2 -- TVT Records 9451-2

Back in 1995, a small label called TVT Records released this disc containing various big bands performing on the Ed Sullivan Show. Recording dates are between 3/13/49 and 4/6/69. Maynard's band is represented on the track "Hey There" from 8/14/60. However, there are two other tracks with Maynard. Both were with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, and both were recorded on 12/3/50. The first is "Artistry in Rhythm." The second is Maynard's signature tune, "Maynard Ferguson." Wow!!!!!! These CDs are now long out of print, and I seldom see a copy. They're very, very hard to obtain!
COPY #1. This is the first copy of this CD I've had to post on the website for several years. They're very hard to find. This one is like new -- NMINT++. It's yours for $30.00.

Folks, if you were about to be stranded on a desert island, and could only grab one set of CDs to take with you, this would be the one. This is, to my mind, the best era for Maynard and his band. This 10-CD boxed set contains all the tracks MF and the band recorded for Roulette, with the notable exception of the Chris Connor tracks, the Yesterdays/Indiscreet singles, and the rare tracks Bluebird-Land and Her Face (which only exist on the ultra rare Roulette RJB-9 45 -- two copies known). So ... except for these few tracks, you get it all -- everything recorded between 1958 and 1962 (although some of the material was released as late as 1965). All 5,000 copies of this set are now sold, and this one is officially out of print (has been for many years now), and the prices are soaring for used copies. It dates between the Roulette Era and the Mainstream era. There are 20 tracks on this CD, and Maynard absolutely WAILS on these tracks. An absolute, positive, MUST for every MF collection.

Here's a great compilation CD of various artists that I'm guessing was issued in about 1992, as it was a compilation put together by Mainstream for Jazz CD Magazine, Volume 1 Issue 2, and it seems to have a lot of the same tunes that Mainstream released in that era on discs such as A Taste of Jazz. Maynard is present on the tune Between Races. Most copies of this CD were no doubt discarded, long ago. I've only seen a very, very few of them. It came in a little paper sleeve, many of which were no doubt discarded. If you can find this disc, WITH the original paper sleeve, you've got a real rarity.

Maynard's two represented tracks, Take the A Train and Got the Spirit, were performed live on 5/14/66. I don't believe this version of these two recordings exists on any other albums.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, RIDIN' HIGH -- Wounded Bird Records WOU 3101

This 2004 CD is a reissue of the circa 1968 LP. As you probably know, this was not the greatest record Maynard ever recorded, and arguably, it's the worst. But it's a funky attempt at the "rock" sound that would be perfected two years later in the M.F. Horn LP. Maynard was trying something very new with this LP, and it led to a lot of live concert work in England over the next two years, where things truly came together to produce some of the finest work Maynard ever created. You've gotta have this one, even though it's a "misfit" in the Ferguson catalog.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, TRUMPET RHAPSODY (GERMAN RELEASE) -- MPS 06025 2759209

This 2011 CD was originally released as an LP in Germany in 1968 entitled Trumpet Rhapsody, then re-released in the U.S. in 1969 entitled Maynard Ferguson, 1969. It was then re-released on LP in the U.S. again in the 1970s under the title Trumpet Rhapsody. There are various German versions with different covers, some on MPS and some on BASF. But until now, it has never been available on CD (to my knowledge). Finally, here it is. Need I say more? This is perhaps the last major MF LP to be converted to CD, and it's been long-awaited. It was recorded in December, 1967 at the Sudwestfunk Studios in Baden-Baden, Germany, and MF was backed by the Sudwestfunk Big Band, conducted by Rolf-Hans Muller. Tracks include Almost Like Being in Love, Knarf, Ole, Dancing Nitely, Tenderly, Whisper Not, and Got the Spirit. It's one of my absolute favorite MF recordings, and other collectors tell me they agree with that assessment. Be sure you get one of these CDs for your collection. They have become quite scarce and are fetching upwards of $200.00 on a couple of internet websites. I've gone out of my way to find every available copy that was reasonably priced.

Now honestly, some of this material is second rate, mainly due to mike placement, etc. But some of it is absolutely, unquestionably FANTASTIC!!!!!! I kid you not. I would have gladly paid for the entire CD just to get the track Italian Suite, which is a compilation of tunes originally recorded for Roulette. It is absolutely FABULOUS!!!! The version of Fox Hunt, with MF playing four different horns overdubbing with himself, is likewise just SENSATIONAL! Although I don't like this version of El Dopa quite as well as the Columbia studio version, it's unique, really stretched out, and quite worthwhile. You'll probably enjoy everything on this disc, although, once again, some of it is less than tremendous. But you MUST have this in your collection for the four or five tracks that are simply STUNNING!

This 2019 CD is from a studio recording in March 1968 in Hilversum, Holland. It is now out of print, and comes in an LP-style cardboard cover. It includes Maynard, Milo Pavlovic, Benny Bailey, and Dusko Goykovich on trumpet fronting an outstanding big band. But let's face it, Maynard Ferguson is the star of this recording!!! This is an incredible composition by Rob Pronk and I was STUNNED to find that it even existed. Unlike a lot of the other Sleepy Night releases which have poor recordings of live sessions, this one is obviously a studio session and it is unbelievable!!!!! Truly one of the best of the best things that Maynard ever recorded. He is STUNNING on this recording. If you don't have one, jump on one of these for as long as I have them available. Only 100 copies were pressed and Sleepy Night says there will be no more!

This 2019 CD is now out of print, and comes in an LP-style gatefold cardboard cover. It includes Maynard's band from three different eras. First is his Christmas Medley recorded live at Club 43 on 12/14/68. Next are seven tracks recorded on New Years Eve 1961 at the Redhill Inn in New Jersey. Finally, there's the Christmas Medley once again from the Chameleon Band in the mid-1970s. Inside the gatefold cover is a great story about Miles Davis decking a D.J. who didn't like Maynard's Christmas music. I'm not sure how many of these were pressed, but they sold out quickly during the Christmas season in 2019. Very, very rare!!!

In 1999, Jazzi Magazine, a European jazz magazine, released this special edition CD entitled Polish All Stars, Jazz Jambore '69. Apparently, you could only get a copy if you subscribed to the magazine. The title is interesting, because on the back it says it was recorded at the International Jazz Festival in October, 1970. Who knows! I would believe the 1969 date much more easily than the 1970 date, because by then MF had his English big band together, had released MF Horn, and was touring with the big band. Regardless, the interesting thing to all of us is the fact that Maynard put together a quartet for this festival, and he's heard on this CD in a live performance of There'll Never Be Another You. To the best of my knowledge, this is the only place you can find this particular recording. It's an ULTRA rare recording by Maynard, and very, very difficult to come by.

It was recorded on March 22, 1969, at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, and has Martin Drover, Ernie Garside, Hank Shaw, Brian Smith, Pete Jackson, and other of MF's British band in attendance. Tracks include Italian Suite, Some Blues, Condolini Woman, Maria, and Go East Young Man. This is a very poorly mastered recording, and the sound quality is marginal. I only recommend this one for MF completists.

This is a special 2-CD set put out by Sleepy Night Records. Note that the title is "Live & Well," not "Alive & Well." Disc one is a live recording from the 100 Club in London. Disc two contains studio outtakes from the Alive & Well in London recording session, which was just called "Maynard Ferguson" here in the U.S. The recordings are from February 1971. This CD set was limited to 500 copies and it's now sold out. I felt like disc one was pretty good; disc two is outstanding! You get to hear alternate versions of the recordings that made it onto the 1971 original LP, including some extended solo work by MF. This is a must-have for every serious MF collector.

Here's the interesting 1973 recording of the MF band, taped live at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. Recording quality is adequate, but it's not studio quality. Still, it's a must for every serious MF collection. It was pressed and released in the UK in 1994, and it's long out of print. This is perhaps one of the most sought after MF CDs, and very few collections have this one resident. I saw one sell in an on-line auction a few years ago for about $300.00. RARE!!!!!!!

It's got numerous scuffs and light scratches, and I would have sworn it wouldn't play well, but remarkably, I just played it, and it's absolutely fine. It also has tracks by a host of other Canadian artists, including Celine Dion, Alais Morissette, Shania Twain, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Gil Evans, Rob McConnell, and many more. An diverse mixture of artists across all genres -- quite interesting and exceptionally rare!

A few years ago, Maynard and his band pulled out their old chart from the '50s entitled "Christmas Medley" and re-recorded it for this Concord compilation CD. This is the only place you can get this particular version of this medley. Maynard is surprisingly strong on this version. Of course, the best version is the one on the Mosaic boxed set or an old Roulette 45, recorded in the late '50s, but they're out of print, and cost megadollars. This is the next best thing!

VARIOUS ARTISTS, JAZZ 101: INTRODUCTION TO BIG BAND SWING -- Concord Special Products CCD-4918-2

This nice little CD comes in a special custom case. It's a compilation of some of the great swing tunes from Concord artists. MF is included on the track It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing) from the One More Trip to Birdland album. This is one of my favorite tracks from the Concord era.
COPY #1. This one is brand new. The disc is flawless, and so is the case, except it was apparently a "remainder" item, and it's had a short black line drawn through the barcode. As a result, this one is just $4.00.

Maynard and Big Bop Nouveau are represented on the track It Don't Mean a Thing if it Ain't Got That Swing. Other artists include Art Blakey, Frank Capp, Gene Harris, Scott Hamilton, Cal Tjader, Carmen McRae, and others.

MICHAEL FEINSTEIN WITH THE MAYNARD FERGUSON BIG BAND, BIG CITY RHYTHMS -- Concord Jazz CCD-4869-2

Here's Concord Jazz artist Michael Feinstein, backed by Maynard and the band on this 1999 CD. It'll remind you a lot of the Chris Connor sessions from the early '60s. Maynard and the band are fine, but I'm not much for Feinstein, although he grows on you as you listen a while. Maynard takes several nice solo breaks. I particularly like the arrangement on "Let Me off Uptown." Definitely a must for every serious MF collection.

Here's Concord Jazz artist Diane Schuur, backed by Maynard and the band on this 2001 CD. Tracks include Just One of Those Things, Besame Mucho, Deep Purple, Autumn Leaves, My Romance, Love Letters, East of the Sun and West of the Moon, Midnight Sun, I Fall In Love Too Easily, Lush Life, Just Friends, and Let's Fall in Love. The arranging is superb, and Schuur's vocal prowess has never been more evident. There's plently of Maynard's chops coming through, as well.
COPY #1. This copy is essentilly NMINT+, with the only problem being one small scratch on the disc surface. Just to make sure it's OK, I played it through, and it played flawlessly. It's yours for just $6.00.

Here's Concord Jazz artist Diane Schuur, backed by Maynard and the band on this 2001 CD. I'm sure most of you have the U.S. version, but this one comes from Russia! Although most of the printing is in English, the label and catalog number seem to be hidden in the Russian portion of the text, so I'm not sure what they are. This one was very hard to get!!!!

This is a Concord Promo release that comes in a little cardboard LP-type cover. It's got 12 tracks from various Concord artists, and includes MF with Diane Schuur on the track East of the Sun. Exceptionally RARE! I've only seen 2 or 3 of these. Released in 2001.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, HAROLD ARLEN CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION 100 -- Concord Jazz CCD2-2281-2

Here's a compilation 2-CD set of various Concord artists playing tunes by Harold Arlen. This one was issued in 2005, then for some strange reason, was almost instantly "deleted" by Concord. MF is represented with Diane Schuur on the tune Let's Fall in Love. Many copies were dumped on the market by Concord with large hole punches through the barcode in the backing paper. (Otherwise, they are generally in MINT condition.) Most copies will be like this unless I specifically state that they do NOT have a hole punch in the barcode. Now, here's the great thing. This is an absolutely FABULOUS compilation CD. My wife and I have listened to the entire 2-CD set many times, and the more we listen, the more we like this CD. The music is phenomenal. Don't miss out on this great CD set!
COPY #1. Like most copies I've seen of this CD, there is a hole punch through the backing paper -- a cut-out item. But otherwise, it's almost like new. Due to the hole punch, just $7.00 for this nice double-CD set.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, ON A HIGH NOTE (THE BEST OF THE CONCORD JAZZ RECORDINGS) -- Concord Jazz CCD-30214-2

Here's a 2007 compilation CD of what is essentially "The Best of Maynard on Concord." I think they hit this one pretty-much square on the head. Every track is great. Tracks include You Got It, Caravan, Just Friends, Manteca, Sugar, I Love You, Knee Deep in Rio, Close Your Eyes, Let's Fall in Love, and Birdland. This one was issued shortly after Maynard passed away. Quite a great tribute to his years at Concord Records.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, MF HORN VI, LIVE AT RONNIE'S -- Maynard Ferguson Music (no catalog number)

Here's the 2006 live CD recorded at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, August 4-7, 2005. One of Maynard's last recordings, it's quite good, although a bit flawed in places (if you're a purist and/or don't "get" the fact that Maynard was in poor health and nearing the end of his life). It includes tracks such as Blue Birdland, The Girl from Ipanema, Frame for the Blues, and even an MF Hit Medley. It has that feeling of being at a live MF concert, with Maynard speaking in several places, etc. (Introducing the tune Frame for the Blues, he says, "so here's something I recorded in 1902." Laughter!) A must have, in my opinion!

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE ONE AND ONLY MAYNARD FERGUSON -- Maynard Ferguson Trust (no catalog number)

Here's the 2007 CD -- Maynard's last album -- recorded at Bennett Studios, Englewood, New Jersey, July 25-30, 2006. Recall that Maynard passed away on August 23, 2006, so this effort was truly his last. He put together a great band for this session, including Wayne Bergeron, Patrick Hession, Serafin Aguilar, Mike Dubaniewicz, Chip McNeill, Denis DiBlasio, Jeff Lashway, Stockton Helbing, and Christian Jacob, among others. Tracks include Without a Song, Besame Mucho, Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone, Vita Bella, Dr. Fox Ph.D., Lost Horizons, Surviving Soho, The Days of Wine and Roses, and Darn that Dream (which he had recorded with Dinah Washington more than half a century before). A must have, in my opinion! Even though it was only issued in 2007, it's out of print and already very hard to find, perhaps because it was privately issued by the Ferguson family.
