MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD FERGUSON-- Wyncote SW-9023

This is the STEREO version of this popluar LP from the mid 60's. Tracks include Bossa Nova de Funk, Danny, Boy, New Hope, At the Sound of the Trumpet, Country Boy, Maine Bone. It's a classic!!!
COPY #1. Interestingly, this is the first STEREO copy of this LP I've ever posted to the website. The cover on this one has a little surface wear visible, but it's minor. It's still a clean and nice cover, and easily rates an EX++. (Most record dealers wouldn't hesitate to call it NMINT-.) The vinyl, has a few very slight surface scuffs and other minor issues, but it's easily EX+. So, overall, this one is in the EX+ to EX++ range. It's a nice, solid copy. Yours for $14.00.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, JAZZ FESTIVAL -- Wyncote W-9031

This is the MONO version of this compilation LP from the mid 60's. Maynard's tracks are Bossa Nova de Funk and Danny Boy. This LP also features tunes by Rufus Jones, Clary Terry, and Teddy Wilson.
COPY #1. The cover on this copy has a 4" spine crack forming at upper right, but it either was glued carefully by someone, or it just hasn't cracked through yet. There's a little faint brownish toning around the edges. The front paper is clean and nice, however, the back is great, and there's no real damage of any kind. It's a solid, EX cover. The vinyl is clean and shiny, but there are a couple of long surface scratches on side A. I listened to it, and there's no real problem, except perhaps a bit extra noise in some of the soft passages. It's also EX. Overall, this is a nice, well-above-average and attractive copy, in EX condition. $9.00.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, JAZZ FESTIVAL -- Wyncote SW-9031

This is the STEREO version of this compilation LP from the mid 60's. Maynard's tracks are Bossa Nova de Funk and Danny Boy. This LP also features tunes by Rufus Jones, Clark Terry, and Teddy Wilson.
COPY #1. The cover on this copy shows just a little bit of record ring wear, and there is a 1" spine crack at bottom center. Overall, the cover is at least EX, maybe EX+. The vinyl is NMINT. Overall, this one is EX++ to NMINT-. $13.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this copy is ultra pristine. It's NMINT to NMINT+. Be assured it's of the very best quality, and super clean. The vinyl is likewise a clean and nice NMINT. Overall, one the best copies I've ever see. Well worth $18.00.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, ALL THE HITS WITH ALL THE STARS VOL. 6 -- Wyncote W-9113

This is the MONO version of this compilation LP from the mid 60's. Maynard's sole contribution is the track Danny Boy. This LP also features tunes by John Gary, Jimmy Dean, Frankie Laine, Teddy Wilson, Merv Grifin, Ray Charles and Brook Benton.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE NEW SOUNDS OF MAYNARD FERGUSON AND HIS ORCHESTRA -- Cameo C-1046

This is the MONO version of this interesting Cameo LP. Tracks include Gravy Waltz, Danny Boy, Take the "A" Train, etc. On the cover, Maynard is standing in a forest clearing, playing his trumpet, and the audience is a reclining Great Dane (the dog type). Maynard once told a collector that he remembered the dog's name: "Rasheed!"
COPY #1. The cover on this copy is clean and nice, with just a few minor creases in a couple of spots that can be seen through the laminate. Again, they're minor, and the cover still is NMINT-. The vinyl is a super clean and nice NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. $16.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one has super clean and nice front paper, seams, and spine. The backing paper has a little toning and a little surface wear visible, but it's minor. This one easily rates a NMINT-, or perhaps even NMINT. The vinyl has some light surface scratches, so there will be a little background noise on playback. It's EX- to EX. Overall, let's call this copy EX+. It's yours for $9.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one is very nice on the front, but there's a rubber-stamped "D J COPY" on the back and the letter "R" written in green ink. Still not bad -- it's EX. The vinyl is NMINT- to NMINT. Let's call this one EX+ overall. Yours for $9.00.
COPY #4. Just in, the cover on this one has some flaking (light loss) of the back cover paper along the opening slit. Otherwise, it's a super clean and nice cover. I'd still rate it as NMINT-. The vinyl is likewise clean and nice, rating a NMINT-. Overall, a nice, solid, NMINT- copy. This one is $14.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON'S BIG BAND, COME BLOW YOUR HORN -- Cameo C-1066

This is the MONO version of this GREAT Cameo LP. These are getting harder and harder to find, and I've seen them fetch some pretty big prices at Internet auctions lately. Tracks include Groove, Country Boy, Blues for a Four String Guitar, Whisper Not, We've Got a World that Swings, Chicago That Toddling Town, Naked City Theme, New Hope, Antony and Cleopatra Theme, and Come Blow Your Horn. I seldom have these in stock, and they're much rarer than the other Cameo release, New Sounds.
COPY #1. The front cover on this copy is almost like new -- super clean and nice. The seams and spine are intact and pristine. The back cover has some browning "foxing" in a number of spots. Not too bad, but definitely not pristine. If I were rating the front of the cover, I'd rate it as NMINT+! But due to the foxing on the back, I'll rate it as NMINT-. The vinyl has a few light surface scratches. I'd rate it as EX+. Overall, this copy rates an EX++, as it's a nice, clean copy with a PRISTINE front cover. Yours for $14.00.
COPY #2. The front cover on this one is almost like new -- super clean and nice. The seams and spine are intact and pristine. The backing paper has a large blue "NR" stamped on it (not sure why). Also, someone wrote the side timings in blue ink, and corrected the factory spelling problem "Don Debesky" to "Don Sebesky" with blue ink. Due to this writing on the back, let's call this cover EX+. (Otherwise, it's NMINT+!) The vinyl is NMINT- to NMINT. Overall, this one is EX++. Yours for $16.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one is really clean and pristine. The only problem is a very slight corner bend at lower left, but still, it's easily NMINT. The vinyl has white DJ labels, and it's got numerous light scuffs and scratches, which do translate to a little noise on playback. It's VG+ to EX-. Overall, this copy is in the EX to EX+ range. Yours for $12.00.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, JAZZ GOES HOLLYWOOD -- Cameo C-1078

This is the MONO version of this GREAT Cameo compilation LP. These are very hard to find. Artists include Rufus Jones, Clark Terry, Teddy Wilson, and, of course, Maynard Ferguson. Maynard's tracks are taken from other Cameo releases: Blues for a Four String Guitar, Come Blow Your Horn, and Anthony & Cleopatra. One of the rarer compilation LPs with MF.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, JAZZ GOES HOLLYWOOD (CANADIAN PRESSING) -- Cameo C-1078 (C)

This is the CANADIAN MONO version of this GREAT Cameo compilation LP. These are EXCEPTIONALLY hard to find.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, COLOR HIM WILD -- Mainstream 56031

This is the original MONO 1964 recording (released in 1965) which was later re-released as “Dues” in LP and CD format.
COPY #1. The cover on this one looks almost MINT from the front, but there's a bit of brown toning on the back. Still, it's a very nice cover, well above average, and rates at least an EX. The vinyl is pretty-much average, with some surface scuffing, etc. It's just VG to VG+. Overall, this one is VG+ to EX-, although it looks much better. Just $8.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one is a super clean and nice NMINT with no significant issues that I can detect. The vinyl has a few light scuffs and surface scratches which DO affect play. Even after cleaning, my rather sensitive turntable skipped in a few places. Rats! I'm going to have to rate the vinyl as POOR. So you'll be buying this one mainly for the beautiful cover. Just $3.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, COLOR HIM WILD -- Mainstream S/6031

This is the original STEREO 1964 recording (released in 1965) which was later re-released as “Dues” in LP and CD format.
NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, COLOR HIM WILD (UK RELEASE) -- Fontana TL 5293

This is the original MONO 1964 recording (released in 1965) which was later re-released as “Dues” in LP and CD format. And this is the UK pressing. The cover is almost the same as the U.S. version, but there's different "badging" at upper right (a distinctive Fontana logo).
COPY #1. The cover on this copy has pristine front paper. The backing paper shows a bit of wear in places, and someone wrote some numbers in ink at upper left. Still, it's a super nice cover, and I'd rate it as EX+. The vinyl would easily be NMINT, but someone stenciled some writing on one label in white paint. Grrr!!! Why did people do these things? This reduces an otherwise NMINT disc to just EX+. Nevertheless, this Fontana pressing is much sought-after, and much rarer than the U.S. version. This one is $17.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BLUES ROAR – Mainstream 56045

This is the original MONO recording with the tracks Everyday I Have the Blues, Night Train, Baltimore Oriole, etc.
COPY #1. The cover on this one is nearly perfect, except for a bit of brown toning and surface wear on the back side. The front looks MINT! Overall, I'd rate it as NMINT-. The vinyl is EX- to EX. Overall, I'd rate this copy as EX+. $20.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one is nearly perfect, except for a bit of wear to the very tip of the bottom right-hand corner. Still, it's a NMINT cover. The vinyl is EX- to EX. Overall, I'd rate this copy as EX++. $13.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this copy is super clean and nice. The front looks NMINT+! The back has a rubber stamped "MNM1" (perhaps a grading stamp?) and the tiny little initials "JS". These two things reduce an otherwise pristine cover to a still outstanding NMINT-. The vinyl is NMINT-, as well. Overall, this copy is NMINT-. A super, solid copy. $17.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BLUES ROAR – Mainstream S/6045

This is the original STEREO recording with the tracks Everyday I Have the Blues, Night Train, Baltimore Oriole, etc.
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BLUES ROAR (JAPANESE PRESSING) – CBS/Sony 25AP 9

This is a Japanese pressing of the great Blues Roar LP. The front looks almost exactly like the original U.S. release, but the back is totally different graphics, with a circa 1980 Maynard pictured. This is a superb pressing -- well worth the expense.
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BLUES ROAR (UK PRESSING) – Fontana TL 5274

This is the original UK pressing of the U.S. LP that had the tracks Everyday I Have the Blues, Night Train, Baltimore Oriole, etc. The cover is very similar to the U.S. cover, but it has a large Fontana logo at upper right -- distinctively different from the U.S. cover.
COPY #1. This is the first copy of this relatively rare UK pressing I've ever had for sale on the website. The front cover on this one looks almost like new. The back, which isn't laminated, does show a little toning around the edges and a bit of surface wear. I'd rate this cover as EX++. The vinyl is quite nice ... some very light, parallel surface scratches, mainly visible on side 2. It play well, with just a little background noise in some of the lighter passages. Still, it's easily EX. Overall, this copy is EX+. A nice, solid British version of this great LP! $20.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE MAYNARD FERGUSON SEXTET – Mainstream 56060

This is the original MONO recording, released in 1965, with the tracks To and Fro, No More Wood, April Fool, Summertime, etc. MF WAILS on this LP!
COPY #1. The front cover on this copy has a few of the horizontal lamination ridges that are common on this LP. They're very small and light, and overall, this is still a NMINT cover -- nice, clean, and tight. The vinyl has a number of light scuffs and light surface scratches which contribute to some background noise on playback. It's in the VG+ range. So overall, this one probably rates an EX to EX+. Just $9.00.
COPY #2. The front cover on this one is near-pristine! Just beautiful. The only problem is the tiniest of bends to the very tip of the upper right corner. It's minimal. On the back there's a Braille sticker and some small writing near the right edge. The back is also stamped "DJ COPY / NOT FOR SALE". I've only seen this once before. I'd rate this cover as EX. Inside the vinyl has white promo labels, which makes sense given the DJ designation on the cover. These are rare! There's a tiny raised sticker on the A label (for recognition by the visually impaired). The vinyl is a clean and nice EX+ to NMINT-. Overall, this copy is in the EX+ range. Yours for $8.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE MAYNARD FERGUSON SEXTET – Mainstream S/6060

This is the original STEREO recording, released in 1965, with the tracks To and Fro, No More Wood, April Fool, Summertime, etc. MF WAILS on this LP!
COPY #1. The cover on this copy suffers from a bad lamination process at the factory. I see this all the time. The Mainstream Records laminator would leave horizontal ridges of laminate across the cover. This cover has a lot of them. On the back, there is a very small inscription written in the bottom right-hand corner, "SEP1." Also a tiny stain in that same corner. All these problems reduce an otherwise beautiful and pristine cover to just EX-. The vinyl, on the other hand, is SUPERB. NMINT+!!! So if you don't mind the cover, this will play beautifully, or if you have a great cover and lousy vinyl, this is a great way to upgrade. Due to the cover problems, it's just EX+, and priced at just $9.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE MAYNARD FERGUSON SEXTET (UK RELEASE) – Fontana TL.5310

This is the original BRITISH release of The Maynard Ferguson Sextet, released in 1965, with the tracks To and Fro, No More Wood, April Fool, Summertime, etc. It's similar to the U.S. version, but there are some subtle differences in the cover layouts. MF WAILS on this LP!
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, SCREAMIN’ BLUES – Mainstream MRL 316

This is the early ‘70s re-release of Mainstream S/6045, The Blues Roar. It’s the one which has a gatefold cover, and the printer reversed the cover negative. It looks like MF is playing a left-handed trumpet. (Duh!) Despite this little chuckle, it’s really an awesome, SCREAMIN’ album! Furthermore, it's extremely popular with collectors, and I have a hard time keeping them in stock!
COPY #1. The cover on this one is the normal gatefold. It's got some definite surface wear overall, and the seams and spine are pretty rough. I'd rate this one as VG+ to EX-. The vinyl, however, is nicer. It's got white DJ labels, and other than a couple of light scuffs and scratches, it's in pretty nice shape. EX+. Overall, this copy is in the EX- to EX range. Yours for just $6.00.
COPY #2. This one has a pretty nice cover, with just a slight bit of record ring wear visible front and back, and a crease in the lower right corner, mainly visible from the back. I'd rate this cover as EX to EX+. The vinyl has a couple of scuffs and a couple of very light surface scratches that don't significantly affect play. I'd rate it as EX to EX+. Overall, this is a nice, solid, EX to EX+ copy. It's yours for $10.00.
COPY #3. Just in, this one has a very nice, NMINT+ cover. The vinyl is MINT, NEVER PLAYED. A super copy. This one is yours for $20.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE GOLDEN HOUR OF MAYNARD FERGUSON (JAPANESE RELEASE) – Mainstream Teichiku Records GH-22-A

This one takes some explaining. The front cover is similar to the U.S. Screaming Blues LP. It looks like MF is playing a left-handed trumpet. But unlike Screaming Blues, which contains tracks from The Blues Roar LP, this one also contains tracks from the Color Him Wild LP. This Japanese LP is EXTREMELY RARE!!!! If you are a completist collector and you see one, grab it while you can!
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, DUES -- Mainstream MRL 359

This is the early '70s re-release of Mainstream S/6031, Color Him Wild. It comes in a nice gatefold cover, with photos of MF, etc.
COPY #1. The cover on this one is in super condition, with the only problem being just a bit of record ring wear on the back (dark brown) cover. Still, it rates a NMINT. The vinyl is very clean and nice, NMINT, as well. Overall, this is a super NMINT copy. $18.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one has dented corners at upper left and lower left, and there's a dent in the front cover at bottom right. There's a bit of record ring wear visible on the back. It's an EX cover. The vinyl is NMINT. Overall, this copy is EX++. $10.00.
COPY #3. This copy is MINT, FACTORY SEALED. $25.00.
COPY #4. This cover on this copy looks like it was just removed from the shrink wrap. It's a pristine NMINT++! The vinyl has a few extremely light surface abrasions. It's still EX++. Overall this copy still rates a NMINT. It's a great copy, in an impeccable cover. $18.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, SIX BY SIX – Mainstream MRL 372

This is the early '70s re-release of Mainstream S/6060, The Maynard Ferguson Sextet, with the tracks To and Fro, No More Wood, April Fool, Summertime, etc. MF WAILS on this LP! It covers in a nice gatefold cover, with nice graphics of MF.
COPY #1. This one is in MINT, FACTORY SEALED condition. $25.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this copy is clean and nice with just the slightest wear visible front and back. It's NMINT-. The vinyl is almost certainly MINT, NEVER PLAYER. Overall this one is NMINT to NMINT+. $19.00.
COPY #3. This one apparently sat on a shelf back-to-back with another copy of this same LP, and since it has a black back cover, a lot of black ink transferred onto the front of this one, causing some definite record ring wear, and there's some ring wear on the back, as well. Otherwise, it's a solid cover. Due to the ring wear, it's just EX-. The vinyl is almost certainly MINT, NEVER PLAYED!!! Overall, this one is EX++. It's $10.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, SIX BY SIX (GERMAN RELEASE) – Mainstream MRL 372

Just like the U.S. version of this LP, this has the tracks To and Fro, Love Theme from the "Sandpiper," No More Wood, April Fool, Summertime, and Between Races. BUT ... the cover is VERY DIFFERENT!! This cover has the same photo on it that's on the U.S. Screamin' Blues LP -- BUT -- on Screamin' Blues, the negative was reversed, and it showed MF playing the trumpet "backwards" (left handed). On this German LP cover, the photo is in the correct perspective. These are INCREDIBLY RARE!
NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, SIX BY SIX (JAPANESE RELEASE) – Mainstream Teichiku Records ULS-1544-A

Just like the U.S. version of this LP, this has the tracks To and Fro, Love Theme from the "Sandpiper," No More Wood, April Fool, Summertime, and Between Races. The front cover is similar, but the back cover is VERY DIFFERENT!! These are INCREDIBLY RARE!
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BIG 'F' -- Mainstream MRL 805

As most of you know, this is an extremely rare Mainstream compilation album with tracks from the earlier Mainstream releases. It is coveted by collectors due to its rarity. I only find one of these about once every 6-8 months. Most copies of this LP have at least some record ring wear, and it's pretty heavy on many. A pristine copy goes for a premium.
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, COLOR ME WILD (GERMAN RELEASE) -- Mainstream MRL 3033-D/1-2

I'm guessing many of you may have never heard about this LP before. Yes, I wrote the title correctly -- Color ME Wild (not Color HIM Wild). This is an extremely rare German Mainstream double-LP gatefold compilation album with tracks from the earlier Mainstream releases. It is coveted by collectors due to its rarity. They are near-impossible to find in the U.S., and the German collectors who are looking for me only find one once in a blue moon. There is a very attractive black woman on the front cover wearing a very revealing costume. This is probably why it's so hard to find, as general record collectors are nuts about these kind of covers. A very rare and desirable addition to the specialist MF collection.
COPY #1. Just in, the cover on this one shows some light ring wear and there's a tiny scrape on the front, toward the bottom, that's about the size of a single grain of rice. There's a little bit of edge wear, as well. Still, it's a very attractive cover, with no significant issues, and I'd rate it as EX. The vinyl has a few minor scuffs and surface scratches which do not significantly affect play, but are worth a mention. I'd rate the vinyl as EX, as well. Overall, this is a slightly flawed but quite attractive LP in EX condition. It's $40.00.
COPY #2. This one is quite nice. The cover is clean and nice with just a bit of surface wear visible in oblique lighting. It's NMINT. The vinyl is likewise NMINT, with just a few minor scuffs that don't affect play. Overall, this is a very nice NMINT copy. It's $45.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE MAYNARD FERGUSON SEXTET (CANADIAN RELEASE) -- Radio Canada International 264

This is the original Canadian release of the MF Sextet album, recorded live at the Canadian Pavilion of Expo 67, May 19, 1967. These are VERY RARE LPs. They come with at least five different cover styles that I've been able to document, so far, and there may be even more.
COPY #1. Just in, this one is the "six vertical photographic images" cover. There are six photographic scenes of Canada arranged side by side on the cover vertically, running from edge to edge. It is extremely rare! The cover on this one is a clean and nice NMINT+ (almost like new). The vinyl is likewise NMINT+, and it's possible that it's never been played. A very, very rare and superb LP, it's $45.00.
COPY #2. This copy has what I like to call the "spatter paint" type cover. It looks like someone spattered paint in salmon, black, and blue on the cover. They are very, very hard to find. This one has some writing on the back cover. Too bad, because the front cover is NMINT+. Due to the writing on the back, this cover is just EX. The vinyl has a few light scuffs and a couple of very light surface scratches which don't affect play. Let's call it EX, as well. Overall, this is a nice, solid EX copy, and is just $20.00.
COPY #3. Just in, this one is perhaps the rarest of the five covers. I think this is only the second copy I've ever had for sale on the website. It's what I like to call the "Silver Transcription" cover. The background of the cover is silver, the word "Transcription" is written in red ink towards the top, and there's a photo of four musical instruments below that: a guitar, a violin, and two clarinets. And this one is FACTORY SEALED!!! Now, the cover is not MINT. I can see a bend to the upper right corner on the cover. So the cover is only NMINT. The vinyl is, obviously, MINT, NEVER PLAYED!!! An absolutely OUTSTANDING copy of an incredibly rare cover, it's $60.00.
COPY #4. Just in, this one is the "large white circle on orange background" cover with the word "canada" inscribed. It's definitely one of the rarer covers. This is quite a nice copy. The cover is solid, with a bit of visible wear, mostly at the bottom. It's NMINT-. The vinyl is likewise quite nice, rating a NMINT-, as well. Overall this one is NMINT-. It's yours for $35.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, MAYNARD FERGUSON AND HIS ORCHESTRA (CANADIAN RELEASE) -- Radio Canada International 265

This is the original Canadian release of the MF Orchestra album, recorded live at the Canadian Pavilion of Expo 67, June 8, 1967. These are VERY, VERY RARE LPs. The "Sextet" LPs are much more common than these "Orchestra" LPs. They come with at least three different cover styles that I've been able to document, so far, and there may be even more.
COPY #1. Just in, this is only the second copy of this rare LP I've ever had for sale on the website, and it's the first copy with the "six vertical images" cover. And what a beauty! The cover is NMINT+. The vinyl is NMINT+. I doubt you can find a nicer copy of this LP. It's $45.00.
COPY #2. Just in, this is only the third copy of this rare LP I've ever had for sale on the website, and it's the second copy with the "six vertical images" cover. And what a sweet copy! The cover is NMINT+. The vinyl is NMINT. It's $40.00.

MODERN JAZZ QUARTET & MAYNARD FERGUSON, HOORAY FOR MODERN JAZZ QUARTET & MAYNARD FERGUSON SEXTET -- Session Disc 112

Here is one of the very rarest LPs containing Maynard. I don't want there to be any misunderstandings about the quality of this recording. It's poor. This disc must have been pressed somewhere in eastern Europe or the far east (Japan excepted). (Anyone know, for sure?) It contains the tracks "To and Fro" and "Summertime" by the MF Sextet. They spelled "To and Fro" as "Too and Fro" on the cover, so you sort of get the picture about quality. The record label looks like it was graphically conceived on a manual typewriter (no joke!). Even the title needs the word "The" inserted to make it grammatically correct. But all this aside, try to find a copy of this recording! It's next to impossible. So if you want one of each, get ready to plop down some of your hard-earned allowance, because it's very, very hard to find!
COPY #1. Just in, this copy has a really nice and clean cover. There's just the very beginnings of a spine crack at top center, and a tiny bit of surface wear on the back, but it's a very clean and nice cover -- still easily NMINT. The vinyl has a couple of small surface scuffs, but they don't affect play, and it's likewise NMINT. Overall, a really nice, NMINT copy. $30.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, RIDIN' HIGH -- Enterprise 13-101

This is the MONO version of the 1968 album Ridin' High. The STEREO version is hard to find, but these MONO versions are about 5 times as rare!!! Maynard is sitting on a Honda motorcycle on the cover. It was a sort of jazz-rock effort, with tunes like Sunny, Wack-Wack, and Alfie. Definitely not Maynard's finest hour, but very listenable, and very interesting. (It's the U.S. version of the green cover English "Freaky" album.)
COPY #1. Hold on to your hats!!! This one does have the typical, tiny core hole in the cover at bottom left, but it's very, very small. AND ... EXCEPT FOR THAT TINY CORE HOLE, THIS COPY IS MINT, FACTORY SEALED!!!!!!! I absolutely COULD NOT BELIEVE IT when I saw this copy!!! So here's the much rarer MONO version, in FS condition! As you can guess, I had to pay an arm and a leg for this one. It's yours for $25.00.
COPY #2. Here's a very interesting copy. When a printer comes to the end of a roll of paper, he splices it to a new roll, then turns the press back on. 99% of the time, he walks down to the end of the line, and discards the end product that has the paper spice in it. In this case, someone blew it. Here's the rarer MONO version of Ridin' High, with a full width (top to bottom) spice running through the front cover paper!!! Bet you're never seen one of THESE before!!! Interestingly, it was in shrink wrap when I bought it, and I removed the shrink to see if this copy was superior to the one in my collection, only to discover this splice, which wasn't as apparent with the shrink on it. Quite a discovery! So, would you like this interesting printing freak? The cover is NMINT+ (pristine!), except for the typical core hole in the upper left corner, which reduces it to just NMINT-. The vinyl is definitely NMINT. Let's call this one NMINT- to NMINT, with the added bonus of the MONO vinyl, and the double added bonus of the printing freak. $25.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one does NOT have a core hole!!! That's rare! There's a little bump on the bottom spine, but that's the only real problem. Let's call it NMINT- to NMINT. The vinyl is not that hot. There's a lot of surface scratching. Obviously, this was slid across a table top a few times. Grrrr! It plays OK, but with quite a bit of surface noise. So the vinyl is just VG. Let's call this copy EX overall. Due to the less-than-great disc, just $4.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one does have the typical cut-out hole, but it's tiny, and is located at bottom right. Otherwise, the cover looks just like new. Due to the hole, let's rate the cover as EX+, but otherwise, it's easily NMINT to NMINT+. The vinyl is almost-certainly never-played. It's easily NMINT+. So, so this nice, clean copy, is $20.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, RIDIN' HIGH -- Enterprise S13-101

This is the STEREO version of the 1968 album Ridin' High. It's a hard one to find. Maynard is sitting on a Honda motorcycle on the cover. (I originally stated that it was a Triumph, but Wayne Wright set me straight on this. Thanks, Wayne!) It was a sort of jazz-rock effort, with tunes like Sunny, Wack-Wack, and Alfie. Definitely not Maynard's finest hour, but very listenable, and very interesting. (It's the U.S. version of the green cover English "Freaky" album.)
COPY #1. Here's a rare find -- a copy of this LP with NO CUT-OUT HOLE!!! 80-90% of the copies I can find have cored covers. This one is NOT cored, and it's in remarkably nice shape. There's just the slightest surface wear visible on the LP. I'd rate it as NMINT, but the original owner wrote his name and "1968" on the back. Due to this one detracting factor, let's call the cover NMINT-. The vinyl is super nice, as well -- NMINT- to NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. One of the nicer copies I've seen! $22.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one does NOT have a core hole! Amazing! The front paper is super clean and nice, and the seams and spine a like new. The backing paper does have a bit of toning in places, and the edges of the backing paper are a little torn in two places. Too bad, because otherwise, the cover is easily NMINT. Due to these small problems, it's NMINT-. The vinyl is a very-seldom played NMINT! Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. It's yours for $22.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one does NOT have a core hole! Wow! There's a very minor bend a lower left, and on the back, along the left edge, there's a little light-brown staining. Still, these are minor problems on an otherwise super cover. Let's call the cover NMINT- to NMINT. The vinyl is a seldom-played NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. It's yours for $22.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one does NOT have a core hole! Excellent! In fact, it's still in shrink wrap. The only issue I can see is a minor little ding by the opening slit, but this is still easily a NMINT cover. The vinyl is almost certainly MINT, NEVER PLAYED. I doubt you can find a nicer copy unless it's factory sealed. This one is NMINT++. $27.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, FREAKY (UK RELEASE) -- Atlantic 2464 008

This is the STEREO BRITISH version of the 1968 U.S. album Ridin' High. It's incredibly hard to find, even in the UK. The cover is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from the U.S. version. It's lime green, with a vignette of Maynard fronting the band. It was a sort of jazz-rock effort, with tunes like Sunny, Wack-Wack, and Alfie. Definitely not Maynard's finest hour, but very listenable, and very interesting. A rare and very desirable UK release. Expect light creases and lamination problems in most covers, as they're thin and were poorly laminated at the factory.
COPY #1. The cover on this copy is one of the best I've seen. As with all copies I've seen, the laminating job is not the best, but this is definitely a NMINT cover. The vinyl is likewise NMINT. Overall, a nice, solid, NMINT copy. It's $30.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one shows a bit of wear around the edges, but otherwise it's in nice condition -- NMINT-. The vinyl looks like it was maybe played once. It's NMINT+. Overall, this one is NMINT. $30.00.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, AMERICAN JAZZMEN IN EUROPE -- Vantage Records LP-512

Here's a rare an interesting compilation LP with various tunes by Americans recorded in Europe. Maynard is included on the track "And We Listen to Him" recorded 5/12/68 in Copenhagen, Denmark. These are EXTREMELY hard LPs to find!
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, TRUMPET RHAPSODY (GERMAN RELEASE) -- MPS 15 166 ST

This is the original 1968 release of the Trumpet Rhapsody LP. It was recorded in 1967, and released in Germany in 1968 -- a year before it would be released in the U.S. as Maynard Ferguson 1969. It has a similar cover to the U.S. BASF Trumpet Rhapsody LP which was issued in 1973, but this cover is black, not blue! It's much, much rarer than the U.S. BASF version!!! It's even got German-language liner notes on the back cover. A real treat!!!! These generally sell fior about $65.00 in NMINT condition.
COPY #1. The cover on this one has a very minor corner bend at upper right, and a little bit of surface wear, but it's still in the NMINT- to NMINT range. The vinyl has quite a few very light scuffs and scratches, and they do cause a little extra surface noise on playback. I'd rate it as EX-. Overall, I'd rate this one as EX+. This one is well worth $15.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one is a clean and nice NMINT. The vinyl has two light scuffs that don't affect play. It's NMINT-. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. Yours for $30.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this copy is a super clean and nice NMINT. The vinyl has MAYBE been played ONCE!!! It's NMINT++!!! Overall, this is a super, NMINT+ copy. Yours for $40.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this copy is super clean and nice. It also has a BASF sticker on the front with catalog number CRM 662. This makes it a later release on the 1968 MPS LP, as MPS was subsequently absorbed by BASF. There's a 2" spine crack at left center. I'd rate this cover as NMINT-. The vinyl was MAYBE played ONCE!!! It's SUPER, NMINT++!! Overall, this copy is NMINT to NMINT+. It's yours for $35.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, 1969 -- Prestige 7636

This is the original U.S. version of the German 1968 Trumpet Rhapsody LP. Unlike the German version, it has a totally different cover and even a totally different title. These are getting harder to find all the time! Tracks include Almost Like Being in Love, Knarf, Ole, Dancing Nitely, Tenderly, Whisper Not, and Got the Spirit. One of Maynard's most interesting and screaming efforts!!
NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, TRUMPET RHAPSODY -- BASF MPS MB 20662

1973 U.S. re-issue of the 1968 German Trumpet Rhapsody LP. These are getting harder to find all the time!
COPY #1. The cover on this one shows some definite ring and surface wear, front and back. It's EX. The vinyl is a SUPER CLEAN and nice NMINT+!!! It may be MINT, never-played. Overall, this copy is EX+ to NMINT-, with ultra pristine vinyl. It's yours for $15.00.
COPY #2. Just in, the cover on this one shows just a hint of record ring wear, mainly on the back. There's also a little rectangular area on the front where someone appears to have taken a sharp razor blade -- probably around the edges of a sticker that used to reside there -- an lightly scored the front paper. It's hardly noticeable. Due to the little flaws, let's call this cover EX+. The vinyl appears to be MINT, never-played. Overall, let's call this copy NMINT- to NMINT. It's $17.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one is relatively clean and nice, but there are some flaws. The original owner signed his name on the front cover at bottom right. There's some minor abrading at left, along the spine, where a sticker was removed. On the back, that abrading is much worse, as the sticker apparently wrapped across the spine and took quite a bit of the cover paper with in when it was removed from the back side. Due to these several small flaws, the still nice looking cover is only EX-. The original owner also wrote his initials on one of the record labels. Otherwise, the disc is splended, in seldom-played NMINT to NMINT+ condition. Overall, this copy is EX++. It's $12.00.
COPY #4. This copy is still in its original factory shrink wrap. The cover, however, appears to have a minor corner bend underneath the shrink. Let's call it NMINT. The vinyl is, of course, MINT, NEVER PLAYED. This one is $20.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, TRUMPET RHAPSODY -- PAUSA 7037

Mid-1970s U.S. re-issue of the 1968 German Trumpet Rhapsody LP. This one has a totally different cover than the U.S. BASF Trumpet Rhapsody LP above. The cover on this one is brown, not blue, and has Maynard sitting cross-legged in the bottom right-hand corner of the cover, holding his muted trumpet. It's much, much rarer than the U.S. BASF version.
COPY #1. Wow, it's been three years since I had one of these in stock. They're really hard to find. This one has some definite record ring wear on the front cover. There's also quite a bit of wear on the bottom seam. I'd rate this cover as only EX- due to the visible wear. The vinyl has a couple of light scuffs, but otherwise is very nice. It's NMINT-. Overall, this copy is EX to EX+. It's $13.00.
COPY #2. Just in, this one is still factory sealed in the original shrink wrap. Trying to peer through the shrink, I really can't see any creases or other issues, but sometimes there's a little wear on these older LP covers that are still in shrink. To be conservative, let's call the cover NMINT+. The vinyl is, of course, MINT, pristine, never played. So this is pretty much a new LP although it's been in that shrink wrap for about 40 years. Probably the best copy you can find. It's $18.00.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, WE'VE GOT JAZZ FOR YOU! (PAUSA SAMPLER ALBUM - NOT FOR SALE) -- PAUSA ISP 1000

Wow! Here's a super rare sampler album from the PAUSA record label. It's a white label promo LP in a unique cover that shows 60 small album covers on the front. It was provided to record stores ONLY so that customers could check out tunes from 17 different PAUSA artists. Included is a 1:50 version of It's Almost Like Being In Love from the MF Trumpet Rhapsody LP. Most of these were tossed away years ago. Finding one is quite a feat!
COPY #1. Here's a nice copy of this rare PAUSA sampler LP. The cover shows virtually no signs of use, and it's easily NMINT. The disc is likewise NMINT! A beautiful copy of an exceptionally rare LP, it's $35.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, TRUMPET RHAPSODY (GERMAN RELEASE) -- MPS 0068.224

Re-issue of the original German Trumpet Rhapsody LP. This one has a totally different cover than the U.S. BASF Trumpet Rhapsody LP above or the original German MPS 15 166 black cover above. This one is like the U.S. PAUSA cover above. The cover is brown, not blue, and has Maynard sitting cross-legged in the bottom right-hand corner of the cover, holding his muted trumpet. In my experience, it's much rarer than the original black cover German MPS version. And, it has the liner notes from the original German version translated to English! Very cool.
COPY #1. The cover on this one has a little surface wear visible, mostly in oblique lighting, but it's still a very nice, NMINT cover. The vinyl is likewise NMINT. This rare LP is yours for $35.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one has a 3/4" seam crack at top center, but otherwise it's a super clean and nice cover. It rates a NMINT. The vinyl is ultra clean and nice, and is possibly never-played. It's easily NMINT++! Overall, this copy is NMINT+! Just super. It's yours for $40.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, TRUMPET RHAPSODY (SPANISH RELEASE) -- STOP JAZZ JS-037

This is an ultra-rare Spanish re-issue of the M.F. Trumpet Rhapsody LP. It has a similar cover to the U.S. PAUSA Trumpet Rhapsody LP above, with MF sitting on the ground, cross-legged, wearing a brown corduroy suit! It's got the cover notes written in Spanish, and is just a fantastic variety of this much-loved LP.
COPY #1. The cover on this one shows just a bit of surface wear in places, but it's minimal, and I'd still rate the cover as NMINT- to NMINT. The vinyl is a super clean and nice NMINT+. A fantastic, and ultra rare pressing. $65.00.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, AMNESTY: STARS OF THE WORLD SING AND PLAY FOR FREEDOM (GERMAN RELEASE) -- BASF 10 21972-9

This is an ultra-rare German LP that was issued as a fund-raiser for Amnesty International. It has Maynard represented on the track Got the Spirit, but the track title is misspelled on the cover as "Go To" Spirit. I'm not sure when this was issued, but there's a quote on the cover saying that, "... In the 11 years Amnestry International has worked on behalf or prisoners of conscience ..." Since Amnesty was founding in 1961, that dates this LP to about 1972. Besides Maynard, nine other artists are represented, including Oscar Peterson. Very, very rare!
COPY #1. The cover on this one has a small bit of paper clinging to the surface at upper left from a sticker removal. It also has the original round foil factory sticker at upper right declaring the price as 8DM for the LP, + 2DM for Amnestry International, for a total of 10DM. (DM is Deutschmark, of course.) That sticker should not be removed, as it's original to the LP. Besides the one small flaw at upper left, the cover is very nice. Let's call it EX++ to NMINT-. The vinyl is NMINT-, as well. A very nice copy, it's $25.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BALLAD STYLE OF MAYNARD FERGUSON (UK RELEASE) -- CBS 63514

Here it is, folks. The MONO version of this rare LP. Perhaps the rarest and most desirable of all the MF LPs. Recorded in England in 1969, this LP showcases MF on a number of lush ballads. And since it was primarily released in the UK, but is desired by serious collectors all over the world, it's become a highly sought-after item. Tracks include Born Free, Girl Talk, If He Walked Into My Life, Fool on the Hill, The Impossible Dream, Somewhere, Maria, As Long as He Needs Me, Hushabye Mountain, The Sound of Silence, and You Only Live Twice. Screaming highs, subtle lows, this is a wonderful, lush effort by MF! A MUST for every serious MF collection. AND ... IN MY EXPERIENCE, THE MONO VERSION IS PROBABLY 5 TO 10 TIMES RARER THAN THE STEREO, YET STILL HAS SUPERB FIDELITY.
COPY #1. Just in, I believe this is the first MONO version of this rare LP that I've ever had for sale on this website. The cover on this copy has four rubbed corners, an almost imperceptible bend at lower left, a little sun fading along the right edge, some general surface wear, and some brownish toning on the back. It's not the prettiest cover I've seen, but there are no major flaws ... just a lot of little things that make it maybe an EX- to EX cover. The vinyl has clean and nice labels, but the disc itself has some light scuffs and light surface scratches. This concerned me, so I played it all the way through and listened to it very carefully. Bottom line is that I heard a few light crackles in a few places, and one or two very light ticks, but it played through fine, and really sounded great. There is not the channel separation that you get on the Stereo version, but the fidelity is still super. What a marvelous LP! I'd rate the vinyl as EX to EX+. Overall, this is a nice, EX copy -- not perfect, but with no major flaws, either. This one is yours for $35.00.

MAYNARD FERGUSON, THE BALLAD STYLE OF MAYNARD FERGUSON (UK RELEASE) -- CBS S63514

Here it is, folks. The STEREO version of this rare LP. At the 4-day MF Tribute in Los Angeles in October 2004, four trumpet players (including Bobby Shew) recreated 8 of these 11 tracks on-stage, and it was a superb performance, with a full string orchestra backing them. The crowd went wild, as most of them had never heard this rare LP, and they were just blown away by what they heard. This is one of my favorite MF recordings!
COPY #1. The cover on this copy has a very small bend in the upper right corner. The back of the cover shows just a hint of surface wear. Neither of these issues would be worth mentioning on a lesser LP. The cover still rates a NMINT. The vinyl has a few ultra light surface scratches which don't significantly affect play. It's NMINT-. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. Due to its rarity and excellent condition, this one is $40.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one has a minor bend at lower right and just a hint of surface wear visible on the back. Still, it's a NMINT cover. The vinyl is NMINT. Overall, this is a NMINT copy of this ultra desirable LP. Yours for $45.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one is super clean and nice. It's NMINT to NMINT+. Really a nice one! The vinyl, however, is not top notch. On side A it sounds pretty good, with a bit of background noise and light crackling in the softer passages. On the B side, there a bit more noise on playback, and there's background noise and crackling throughout, especially in the softer passages. I'd rate this disc as VG+, with the caveat that the fidelity is still excellent. Overall, this copy is EX+. It's $30.00.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, TEN YEARS AT RONNIE SCOTT'S JAZZ DECADE LONDON (UK RELEASE) -- CBS S63742

Here's an interesting compilation LP, issued in about 1969 or 1970, which includes the track Girl Talk from the Ballad Style of Maynard Ferguson LP. It's also got Maynard with Alan Haven on Love for Sale, and almost certainly with Salena Jones on This Girl's in Love With You. Fun stuff!! A relatively rare LP.
COPY #1. This is the first copy of this relatively rare LP that I've ever had for sale on the website. The cover on this one has a core hole at upper right. This reduces an otherwise NMINT- cover to just EX. The vinyl is EX+. A nice, solid EX to EX+ copy, with the only real issue being the core hole. Due to that hole, this copy is just $15.00.
COPY #2. This one is just in. The cover is a very decent NMINT-. The vinyl is NMINT-, as well. For this rare UK LP, it's $22.00.
