Montreux All-Star LPs with Maynard Ferguson
MONTREUX SUMMIT VOLUME 1 -- Columbia JG 35005
This LP was recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland on July 24 (and the early morning hours of July 25), 1977, and was released that same year. It's a double, gatefold LP, and has MF on the tracks Montreux Summit, Blues March (solos), and Andromeda (solos). It's really fantastic, fusion-influenced jazz, and Maynard comes through loud and clear!!!
COPY #1. The cover on this one has a very minor bend at just the tip of the bottom left corner. There's a little surface abrasion on the spine in a couple of spots, as well. These small flaws reduce an otherwise near-perfect cover to just EX++. The vinyl has a few very light surface scratches and scuff which cause a little bit of background noise in spots. It's EX. Overall, this copy is EX+. $9.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this one has a gold "For Promotion Only" stamped into the back cover. It's a pristine cover, in NMINT+ condition! The vinyl, which has the normal red labels (not white promo labels) is nearly flawless, except for one scuff on side 4 which does not affect play. It's NMINT. Overall, this copy is in NMINT to NMINT+ condition. $14.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one has a gold "For Promotion Only" stamped into the back cover. It's an almost pristine cover, with the only problem being on tiny white mark on the front cover the size of a grain of rice. It's still NMINT. The vinyl, which has the normal red labels (not white promo labels) is nearly flawless, except for one small scuff which doesn't affect play. It's NMINT-. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. $12.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one is clean and nice with no real issues -- NMINT+. The vinyl may have been played once -- it's pristine. NMINT+. Overall this copy is NMINT+. It's $16.00.
MONTREUX SUMMIT VOLUME 1 -- CBS 88277 (DUTCH PRESSING)
This LP was recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland on July 24 (and the early morning hours of July 25), 1977, and was released that same year. It's a double, gatefold LP, and has MF on the tracks Montreux Summit, Blues March (solos), and Andromeda (solos). It's really fantastic, fusion-influenced jazz, and Maynard comes through loud and clear!!! This is the DUTCH pressing of this LP set -- MUCH rarer than the U.S. version!!!
COPY #1. The cover on this one is quite nice. The front shows just a tiny hint of some wear. On the back, however, there's a small spot of discoloration from the removal of a stick, and some apparent record ring wear. I'd call this cover EX to EX+, but it looks NMINT from the front. The vinyl has maybe been played one time. It's NMINT++. Overall, this one is in NMINT- to NMINT condition. It's $16.00.
MONTREUX SUMMIT VOLUME 2 -- Columbia JG 35090
This LP was recorded live at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland on July 24 (and the early morning hours of July 25), 1977, and was released in 1978. It's a double, gatefold LP, and has MF on the track Red Top (solos). It's really fantastic, fusion-influenced jazz, and Maynard comes through loud and clear on his track!!!
COPY #1. The cover on this copy has a white paper DJ timing strip glued on the bottom part of the front cover. There's just the slightest record ring wear. It has a gold "For Promotion Only" stamped into the back cover. Overall, the cover is NMINT, but the DJTS reduces it to just EX. The vinyl is NMINT, and has white promo labels. Overall, this copy is EX+, with the only real problem being the DJTS. $8.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this copy has some light record ring wear and a couple of very small(pea-sized) brown spots on the front cover. It's EX. The vinyl is NMINT. Overall, this copy is EX+ to NMINT-. $9.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this copy has a bit of record ring wear visible in a couple of spots. It also has "For Promotion Only" stamped in gold on the back cover. It's NMINT-. The vinyl is NMINT. Overall, this copy is NMINT- to NMINT. $12.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one has just a little bit of record ring wear visible at top center. It's minimal. Someone got careless with a blue pen and made a couple of very small marks (less than 1/2" each) on the front cover. This small problem reduces an otherwise NMINT cover to just EX+. The vinyl has a couple of scratches on one track (not Red Top), but otherwise is NMINT. Let's call it EX+ due to the one track having some surface noise. Overall, this copy is EX+. $9.00.
COPY #5. The cover on this one is still MINT, FACTORY SEALED, BUT … the upper right corner of the cover has been cut off -- a cut-out item. The vinyl is, of course, MINT. If you mainly want a copy to listen to or record, this is the one. $8.00.
COPY #6. The cover on this one is absolutely superb -- NMINT+, with not issues that I can detect. The vinyl is almost certainly MINT, NEVER PLAYED. Overall, this one is NMINT++. Yours for $16.00.
