Shorty Rogers 45s with Maynard Ferguson

SHORTY ROGERS AND HIS ORCHESTRA, COOL AND CRAZY –- RCA VICTOR EPB 3138

This is the fantastic west coast jazz album from 1953, with Maynard blowing away on all the tracks. It's a 7" 45 RPM EP with gatefold picture cover, containing two discs. The jazz guide lists the 10" LP of the album for $250.00 in NMINT condition! It's a VERY, VERY popular jazz album, and relatively rare. I've seen a few copies of the 10" LP, but I seldom see the EP. To my thinking, it's definitely rarer than the 10" LP. A super hard EP to find!
COPY #1. Just in, I FINALLY found a copy of this great little EP for one of you enthusiastic collectors. The cover shows a little surface wear on the front, and a little age toning on the spine and back, but it's still easily EX+. It's a very solid cover, with no real damage. (Hard to believe!) The vinyl is in SUPER NMINT condition!!! Overall, this copy is in NMINT- condition. Remember, the jazz guide says $250.00 for a NMINT one. My price for this extremely nice copy, $45.00.

SHORTY ROGERS AND HIS ORCHESTRA, COURTS THE COUNT –- RCA VICTOR EJC 1004

The Shorty Rogers “Courts the Count” album was also issued in a 3-EP format with a picture cover. They are quite hard to find in decent condition.
COPY #1. There’s a bit of wear on the cover of this one, front and back, but it’s not bad. The cover is EX. The vinyl is EX+. $15.00.

SHORTY ROGERS AND HIS ORCHESTRA, TOPSY / TAPS MILLER –- RCA VICTOR E4-VW-3021

This is a 45 RPM white label promotional issue with two tracks from the “Courts the Count” album, which featured MF. This is an extremely hard 45 to find. Most MF collectors don’t even know about it. And given that it was never available to the public, only radio stations, that makes it doubly hard to come by. Lastly, the “Courts the Count” album itself (RCA LJM-1004) sells for $75 in good condition. So you can easily understand the desirability of this 45. Due to its promotional nature, it never had a picture cover, just a plain sleeve.
SORRY! NO COPIES AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

SHORTY ROGERS AND HIS ORCHESTRA, TALE OF AN AFRICAN LOBSTER / INFINITY PROMENADE –- RCA VICTOR 47-5503

This is a 45 RPM disc with two early Shorty Rogers tracks. Very hard to find!
COPY #1. This one has very nice, clean labels, except for a circled check mark that has been almost erased. The vinyl has quite a bit of surface scratching, which definitely equates to background noise on playback. Still, it's a relatively rare 45. I believe this is the first one I've ever had for sale. Well worth $4.00.

VARIOUS ARTISTS, THE RCA VICTOR "JAZZ SAMPLER", FROM HOT TO COOL –- RCA VICTOR 45 EP SPA-7-3

This is a picture cover 45 RPM compilation EP which includes MF playing on the Shorty Rogers tune Doggin' Around from the Shorty Rogers Courts the Count album. The Courts the Count album is quite rare, and sells for $75.00, when you can find one. There are also 5 other tunes on this disc from other artists. The cover art is really cool, with a short, stout cartoon character blowing a trumpet. Really '50s, man! This would look super in your MF collection, and very, very few MF collectors have one.
COPY #1. The cover on this copy has a bent upper left corner and some surface wear. There's a transparent tape repair to the seam at bottom right. The cover is just average, VG condition. The vinyl is EX+. Let's call this one EX- overall. $15.00.
COPY #2. The cover on this copy shows some minor surface wear, and there is a 1" spine crack at bottom center. It's EX. The vinyl is very nice -- EX++. Overall, this copy is EX+. $7.00.
COPY #3. The cover on this one has very slight corner bends at upper and lower left (only visible on the front paper). It shows just the faintest hint of some surface wear, which is outstanding for this black-cover EP. Let's call it NMINT-. The vinyl is NMINT except for one surface scuff, which doesn't affect play. I'll be conservative and call if NMINT-. So, overall, this is a very nice, NMINT- copy. $8.00.
COPY #4. The cover on this one shows some surface wear on the front, and a bit of light toning on the back. But the seams and spine are completely intact. This is quite a nice cover, and I'd rate it as EX+ to EX++. The disc has clean and nice labels, and the vinyl itself is a quite nice EX++. Overall, let's call this copy EX++. It's $7.50.
