Sarah Vaughan CDs with Maynard Ferguson

SARAH VAUGHAN, SARAH VAUGHAN & FRIENDS: A NIGHT OF SASS & BRASS (DUTCH RELEASE) -- Immortal IMA 104101

Here's an incredibly interesting European import CD. It came out first as a DVD, but the music was so interesting, they also issued it in this CD format. It was recorded at the Storyville Jazz Hall in New Orleans in 1986, and the "friends" include Maynard Ferguson, Don Cherry, Dizzy Gillespie, Al Hirt, Chuck Mangione, Herbie Hancock, etc. The CD was realeased in 2006. There are 10 tracks, and MF plays on 5 of them: Watermelon Man (Opening Theme), I Can't Get Started, Bags' Groove, Take the 'A' Train, and Watermelon Man (Closing Theme). This may be the only time that MF ever was on a billing and played with Al Hirt, and perhaps some of the other players, as well. This one is an absolute MUST HAVE for every MF collector. Maynard solos and his playing comes through loud and clear.
