FERDINAND JOSEPH JELLY ROLL MORTON
Jelly Roll Morton was a composer, pianist, conductor, singer and arranger. He was born
in New Oleans in 1885 and died in Los Angeles in 1941. He began playing piano in clubs
in New Oleans at the age of 17. Later he toured the US as a pianist and then as the leader
of Morton's Red Hot Peppers. He made many recordings and managed a Washington, D.C.
night club in 1937-1938.
