Marley's First Litter

This is Marley's first, and probably last litter of puppies. She had these two years ago when she was three. I mated her with a friends Black lab who was also a pretty decent duck hunter (the dog). Sure enough, a few months and quite a few pounds later, Marley had her pups. From the first pup to the last, her labor lasted about 14 hours. Marley's mother was a chocolate, her dad a yellow. Toby's (sire) mom was a black, his dad a chocalate. These genetics led to a litter of 2 chocolate males, 2 yellows (one of each), and four blacks (3 male). If was a beautiful, healthy litter with no stillborn and no noticeable runt. Luckily, most of the dogs went to people I know. It was the black female who my older brother now owns who just gave birth. She mated with another black and had 4 yellow, 3 blacks. The pick of the litter, the real light yellow female, went to my duck hunting partner Mark. He is the one in the picture with the bear and was with me on the mallard hunt. All but two are in homes where I still see them from time to time. It was a neat experience and having eight 5 week old puppies around was a lot of work, but also a lot of fun.
