BRM, Or British Racing Motors, had enjoyed some pretty good
success in the 1950's and 1960'sd in Grand Prix racing,
recording several victories. But by the mid-1970's the team
bagan to drop back on the grid, and the once proud BRM name
with their well-known BRM V-12 engines were now considered
"Also-rans" in the F1 circus.
In 1975, Louis Stanley took over the team, and the cars
became known as Stanley-BRM's. The cars failed miserabley.
Bankrupt, the Stanley-BRM company fell into the hands of a
reciever in 1979.
By mid-1979 English businessman John Jordan stepped in to
purchase some of the assets, and was shocked to find that a
new ground-effects "Wing Car" had been built! It was
labeled the P230, and powered by the venerable BRM V12. The
high-swept rear body was meant for serious downforce.
The designers were Aubrey Woods and Len Terry, and built
under an outside contract by CTG, of FF2000 fame. Jordan, a
long time BRM enthusiast, had plans to run it in the
British Aurora AFX F1 series with plans to return to the
real F1 grids soon.
