Men's 10km

Norway's Ole Einar Bjoerndalen easily won the men's 10km biathlon event. He finished with a time of 27 minutes, 16.2 seconds. Bjoerndalen was one of seven skiers who didn't miss a target.

Norwegian Frode Andresen won the silver with a time of 28 minutes, 17.8 seconds. Ville Raikkonen of Finland was three seconds back of Andresen and won the bronze.

Men's 20km

Halvard Hanevold of Norway surprised everyone with the gold. He was 46th in the last Olympics and missed a target. Hanevold skied very hard at the end and finished with a time of 56 minutes, 16.4 seconds.

Italy's Pier Alberto Carrara looked to have locked up the gold with a time of 56 minutes, 21.9 seconds but finished second. He was the only one out of 72 biathletes who hit all 20 targets. Belarus' Aleksei Aidarov won the bronze with a time of 56 minutes, 45.5 seconds.

World Cup leader Ricco Gross was sixth. 1994 gold medallist Sergei Tarasov of Russia missed four targets to finish 15th. France's Raphael Poiree was the favourite and finished 22nd.

Men's 4X7.5km Relay

The German team won the gold in the relay event. Lead by Ricco Gross, the Germans finished with a time of 1 hour, 21 minutes, 36.2 seconds. It was Germany's third straight gold medal in the relay event.

Norway was second with a time of 1 hour, 21 minutes, 56.3 seconds. Anchor Ole Bjoerndalen overtook the Russians, who won the bronze with a time of 1 hour, 22 minutes, 19.3 seconds.

Women's 7.5km

Galina Koukleva of Russia won the gold with a time of 23 minutes, 8.0 seconds. She missed one target but skied very strongly. Ursula Disl of Germany won the silver despite missing a target in the final round. Disl was only 0.7 seconds back of Koukleva.

Katrin Apel of German won the bronze with a time of 23 minutes 32.4 seconds. Favourite Magdalena Forsberg of Sweden missed three targets in the last round to finish 17th.

Canadians: Myriam Bedard finished in 32nd place. She didn't miss a target. Bedard won this event in the last Olympics. B.C.'s Michelle Collard also hit all her targets and finished 38th.


Women's 15km

Yekaterina Daforska of Bulgaria won the gold in the women's 15km event. She missed one target and finished with a time of 54 minutes, 52 seconds. Daforska was ranked 51st in the world.

Ukraine's Yelena Petrova won the silver with a time of 55 minutes, 9.8 seconds. German Ursula Disl was third and almost eight seconds back of Petrova.

There was falling snow and strong winds in during the event making shooting very difficult. Favourite Magdelana Forsberg of Sweden missed three targets and finished 14th.

Women's 4X7.5km Relay

The German team won the women's biathlon relay. Ursula Disl shot very poorly and the Germans were third after the first leg. However, they came back and won in a time of 1 hour, 40 minutes, 13.6 seconds.

Russia was second and Norway won the bronze. With the gold, Disl has now won more medals than any other biathlete in Olympic history.
