Canadian Elvis Stojko held on to second place with a very gutsy performance with a painful groin injury. Philippe Candeloro of France won the bronze after a great long program.

  5 Alexei Yagudin Russia 7.0
Canadians: Elvis Stojko won the silver medal. He was second after the short program and did not practise any jumps after that. Stojko was seriously injured in Hamilton but they kept the injury to themselves. He had acute pain in the groin area from a torn adductor muscle and fever. However, he somehow still managed to incredibly pull off eight triple jumps and a clean program. Stojko was in obvious pain and limped off the ice.

Jeff Langdon was 17th after the short program and moved up to 12th after the long program.

Women's

Tara Lipinski of the United States won the women's figure skating gold. She was second after the short program but won the long program to beat out fellow American, Michelle Kwan. Lipinski had great technical marks and Kwan had great artistic marks. Lipinski, 15, became the youngest Olympic Champion ever.

China's Lu Chen won the bronze with a strong long program. Russians Maria Butyrskaya and Irina Slutskaya finished fourth and fifth.

Pairs

Russians Artur Dmitriev and Oksana Kazakova won the pairs gold medal. Eight of the nine judges placed the Russian pair first. It was Dmitriev's third Olympic medal and he became the first man to win gold with two different partners.

Anton Sikharulidze and Elena Berezhnaya won the silver. Berezhnaya fell on their last lift to erase any hope of a gold medal. The German pair of Ingo Steuer and Mandy Woetzel placed third despite Steuer's shoulder injury.

Canadians: Kris Wirtz and Kristy Sargeant finished a disappointing 12th place. Luc Bradet and Marie-Claude Savard-Gagnon was 16th. The pair skated even though they were both very ill with fever and the flu.

Ice Dance

Russians Pasha Grishuk and Evgeny Platov won the ice dance event despite some major errors. Anjelika Krylova and Oleg Ovsyannikov, also from Russia, won the silver. France's Marina Anissina and Gwendal Peizerat took the bronze.

Many observers thought the competition was fixed. Judges from Russia, France, Italy, Czech Republic, and Ukraine were accused of block voting. It became more obvious when Platov and Grishuk made a crucial error but the several judges still placed them first. The top 19 pairs did not change places from the World Championships to the Olympics.

Canadians: Shae-Lynn Bourne and Victor Kraatz skated excellent but finished fourth in the pre-determined result. The judges made sure Anissina and Peizerat were ahead of the Canadian pair. Bourne and Kraatz's free dance was superb and they skated to music from Riverdance.

Chantal Lefebvre and Michel Brunet finished in 19th spot, as expected.
