I have always felt patriotic to Nova Scotia (this is the
Celtic pronounciation of New Scotland). I have lived close to the Atlantic Ocean all my life,
and have a love of the Sea, its endless crashing of the waves on the shores, the silver sand
beaches, the Coastal Communities that are dependent on the Land and Sea, the beauty
of the land I am in the amidst of, and the quiet and tranquil life that it offers.
Like any place you live, it is how you make it, and interact within it, and treat it
with respect, devotion and nurture the pureness of the place.
Many people in Nova Scotia have a cultural sense of belonging, the ancestry is a mixture
of Micmac, Celtic, French Acadian, Irish, Scottish and British, with many lives
living in a culture that encompasses all the above ancestries. Today, people from\
all cultures have immigrated to Nova Scotia, and enjoy the tranquility and wholesome
lifestyle it has to offer. The symbol of the Sea is the Bluenose II, the famed fishing
schooner that was reknown for its speed. Symbol of the wilderness is the mayflower which
has a distinct aroma that permeates the air, and comes to life after the spring melt off
of ice and snow.
The famed Balsam Fir Christmas Tree is a symbol of what bounties lie in our wilderness and
bring that sweet smell of Christmas, stockings around the fireplace mantle, candy canes and
homemade ornaments with a hint of cinnamon flavoured eggnog on a cool winter night.
To feel part of this special culture, come to Nova Scotia, get to know the people, and decide
for yourself of just how tranquil the place is.
