Steam in Old Vegas
Welcome to the Old Vegas Train Station.
The 0-6-4 steam locomotive was operated along a loop of track a little over a mile long that passed through the park, and surrounding desert.
Passengers traveled in open aired coaches with wooden bench seats, and cloth canopies. The steam engine powered the trains along
with a Plymoth gas/mechanical steam look-alike.
The 0-6-4 was built for the Catherine Plantation in Bayou Goula, Iberville Parish, Louisiana. The 0-6-4 operated as #7 on the plantation line until 1951, when she was sold to
Godchaux Plantation, a sugar cane grower. Operating there until 1958, she was sold to C.W. Witback, then W.E. Butler and finally Harra's of Reno.
From Harra's she went to Mike Roberts, who restored the locomotive, and made many changes, wich included a new boiler, and a remodeled the dome
configuration. In 1972 the engine was sold to Old Vegas, and now resides in Northern California with private owners.
