The Results of the Chinese Occupation of Tibet

TIBETAN DEATHS UNDER CHINESE OCCUPATION (through 1988)
Prisons/Labor Camps 173,221
Torture 97,731
Execution 156,758
Uprisings 432,705
Starvation 342,970
Suicide 9,002
TOTAL 1,207,387

ECONOMIC COMPARISON : TIBET, CHINA, USA
Per Capita GDP ($US) Tibet: 242 China: 462 USA: 24,700
Avg. Annual Growth in Real Income Tibet: 5.5 China: 8.1 USA: 0.8
Literacy Rate Tibet: 56% China: 74% USA: 97%
Adult graduated from high school (1990) Tibet: 2% China: 8% USA: 77%

What is clear from these statistics is that the Chinese have committed grave acts of killing on the Tibetan people, and completely got rid of approximately 1.2 million Tibetans. Furthermore, the economic growth China claims to be bringing to Tibet is not quite there, especially given that China's economy is growing much faster then Tibet's own. The world community must continue to pursue courses of action to fix this situation, so that no more senseless deaths will be caused.
