At first glance, Sailormoon is a very formulaic show about teenage girls fighting evil, but when you look closer at it you'll find that along with the occasional joke and usually beautiful artwork (at least in some sceanes) Sailormoon is about friendship, love and it also shows a lot about Japanese culture even when it was dubbed.

Since you're new to Sailormoon, here are a few things you should know. Sailormoon was born out of the Japanese comic "Sailor V" which was about a 14 year old girl (Minako and her cat (Artemis) who fought villians. The story was written and illustrated by Naoko Takeuchi who later decided to create the comic series, Sailormoon. At the end of the last volume of Sailor V, there is a reference to Sailormoon. Sailor V became Sailorvenus and she fought along side with the other Sailors. The Sailormoon comic lasted for 18 volumes where it eventually became a hit Japanese cartoon. The television series lasted for 5 seasons which were called, Sailormoon, Sailormoon R, Sailormoon S, Sailormoon Super S and Sailormoon Sailor Stars. There were also three movies which were called Sailormoon R, Sailormoon S and Sailormoon Super S. The show was dubbed into many different languages and shown in different countries one of which is the U.S. The company that dubbed it into englishwas DiC. A lot of people do not like the way DiC is dubbing it because they changed the storyline and cut a lot of scenes out.
