Volume 9 Notes

I just bought Chinese version of the Sailor Moon manga vol. 9 and 10. Besides the wonderful story of Sailor Moon S, I discovered that the creator Naoko Takeuchi writes little pieces at the end of the book for her fans. I have translated some of it so you guys can all share it. BTW, this is the English translation of the Chinese translation of the original, so a lot is bound to be lost. However, I'd like to think that the original spirit is there. Here's goes - Yang Wenli

By the time you read this, the information here might be a little out of date. (I am writing this in January, 1995). On Christmas, 1994, I, my artist helpers and Osabu (someone who takes of fan mail for Takeuchi.-Yang) went to an old western building to celebrate. Later, we ate an Sailor Moon cake and watched a Sailor Moon episode on TV. (The 24th was a Saturday. The episode is the awakening of Sailor Mercury. (Hmm, is this a rerun? Can anyone find out exactly which episode is running on that day?-Yang)).

I spent the entire '94 with Sailor Moon happily. I bought a very beautiful wall clock to be my own Christmas gift. The clock has a mirror face. There's no letters or numbers on the face. In the place of 12, there's a crescent moon, so I thought it was appropriate. (The clock hands are made of gold.) Because I love mirrors, so I also love Sailor Neptune's mirror. A while ago, I found a very large, old European-style mirror in an antique shop. I am planning to make the fourth story of Sailor Moon to be about mirrors. I hope the anime version will keep this theme. (Oh yes, in the TV anime version of Sailor Moon S, in the scene when Sailor Chibi-Moon first appears, her face was covered up by captions. poor Sailor Chibi-Moon. (For those of you who have never seen original TV anime of any sort, anime on TV is frequently interrupted by caption marching through the bottom or the top of the screen. The captions are usually news updates or informing the audience about prize drawings.

Even though I love mirrors, but I really love antique crystals, like lamps and perfume bottles. I have collected a lot. My room is starting to look like Hotaru's. Now all the stuff I collected, the antiques which have given so much inspiration and the endless Sailor Moon items, is giving me a headache. Where am I going to put al of them?

(sigh) I have so much trouble with Sailor Moon. Even if I had a boyfriend, I would probably have dumped him. I always do what I want. Is there a prince out there who can understand me? Probably not. (sob)

The last time I went out, I stopped at Rainbow Bridge to watch the skyline of Tokyo (It's probably a wrong translation. Anyone know the real name of the place?-Yang). It was very beautiful, like a city from the future. The night scene of Tokyo is beautiful, and so is the scene during the day. If you're dating, you should go there! Now I am infatuated with the flashy, discontent and constantly changing Tokyo. I don't know how much longer I can watch this beautiful scene and draw Sailor Moon.

On the eve of 1995, I celebrated in New York. The skyline of Manhattan was very beautiful. During the day, it was all golden. I think it's because the buildings are older. If my Tokyo had not gone through the war, the skyline would certainly have a quite different look.

Oh, yes, I watched the live-action version of Street Fighter II movie while I was there. The movie should be in Japan by the time you read this. The movie is quite interesting. Chun Li was a journalist and was quite active. Oh yes, in certain circles, the rumor was that the next series of Sailor Moon will be called Sailor Moon X. It sounds nice. The '95 season of Sailor Moon will be called Sailor Moon SS. Please support me in '95. Watch this show!

Thanks to all the readers who send me so much letters, gifts and Sailor Moon merchandise items. I am really grateful. I am very happy!

See you all in Volume 10!

Don't forget to say Moon Crisis Make Up!

January, 1995 Naoko Takeuchi There's a fan art section just before Takeuchi's letter. I translated part of it. The section is written by someone who's nicknamed OSABU (the pig)

Great! The fan mail from out of the country have increased dramatically. I am very happy! I have heard that Sailor Moon is very popular in France. I can read English, French and Chinese, so I can understand most of the letters from the rest of the world. (There is one fan art, depicting Chibi-Usa which is from the U.S. The art is signed by one Ellen Liu-Yang)

Ellen from the U.S. said that she hoped to see Sailor Moon on America.

Miss Huang from Hong Kong have sent many pirate bookmarks. Thank you. Looks like Hong Kong has become the heaven of pirate Sailor Moon bookmarks!

The fan of Japan is represented by (Sorry, the Chinese translator substituted a Chinese name here, so I don't know who's the original person.) She did a very good rendition of the Doom and Gloom girls.

I am very sorry but I can't print every piece of fan art here, but all of your works are treasured by me and Takeuchi-sensei. If you see Sailor Moon anywhere in the world, write a letter to me!

(Unfortunately, there's no mailing address. Anybody knows?-Yang)
