The GENERAL CONTEXT of such use is:
The term refers to that science which is named after the ancient Greek goddess Psyche but which also derives from the Greek meaning for "the mind, the soul, and mental functions". Well, such it is that which Jerome does certainly examine, but he does so with one major difference from both the ancient Greek definition AND the modern-day "practice" of the science. And this is in regard to the further definition that psychology (and the "psyche") relate to: "That mental functioning of the mind which cannot be explained by natural law or physics". THAT is where Jerome parts with the established definition and the psychological "Establishment".
BECAUSE, in defining and explaining the "workings" of the mind, Soul and mental function, Jerome DOES INVOKE natural law and physics to explain such "workings", showing us EXACTLY what the "rules and regulations", the principles and the natural laws ARE, that apply and explain the "workings" of the mind, Soul, and consciousness.
IN DOING SO, Jerome does merely state those facts, discoveries, truths and realities as have been "handed down" unto him (Jerome) BY all of the secular and non-secular scientists of the Quantum and other "psychological" researchers (including Carl Jung, the "founder" of modern Analytical Psychology practice and theory) and which have thusly contributed to the "formulations" that Jerome has made thereof and in explanation OF such realities of the mind and consciousness as he does so address.
Further, in doing so (establishing such "formulations"), Jerome IS, in effect, changing the very nature of the science of psychology FROM that of a "psychic", nebulous, ethereally-based "science" ("which cannot be explained by natural law or physics"), TO a reality-based, quantum mechanical science that IS based upon natural (AND Cosmic) law, IN and OF its explanations of the mind, the Soul and consciousness.
